If you dig deep enough, you can find accurate accounts of the incident that leave little to the imagination. When the attacks happened the internet was infinitely smaller and if you were on say, a niche forum about Alaskan backpacking or hunting, you could find out all kinds of gory details.

The official reason is that in contrary to all of his previous visits, he stayed longer than usual. Apparantly there is a season where foreign, hungry outsider bears were coming in to eat as much food as possible before hibernation. They are more aggressive for this reason.
The moron normally left before this cycle happened, but for some reason the only time he brought his girlfriend he stayed way longer.
