How is it so easy for people to fail upwards in Hollywood?
It's not about the quality, it's about how easy you are to work with.
If you're nice, network and are available and work extra they'll always pick you over some flakey "idea person" that can't get a proper script going until the last second.
Also at this point the studios and Hollywood in general see flops as not being their fault but the fault of the audience not being "handled" enough by marketing to buy tickets.
That's because they're all company people with no shred of integrity and inspiration that just view it as some soulless corporate job, so it's your fault, the viewer, for not buying their product.
And I think above anything they want you to be fast. These kind of scripts have TONS of rewrites and alternate versions and they want them finished asap so they can have concept art and storyboards and shit done asap as well
