The rate of mental illness isn't higher, medicine and understanding of mental illness have just improved so the rate of diagnosis is higher. Older generations are just as mentally ill but they were too stupid to realize it and just beat their kids into resenting them.

I remember the time the yurigays smugly hyped up a yuri ballroom dance in episode 7
    >It didn't happen
Then they smugly hyped up a kiss in episode 20 believing in some "totally irrefutable" leak
    >It didn't happen
Then they smugly hyped up a great big yuri wedding in episode 24
    >It didn't happen
And then, having deemed their udders now milked, BASEDai decided to gaslight the yurigays by whittling away the one "victory" of an offscreen wedding they had left. Honestly? I'd say they deserve it. For as much as they may scream and moan they already paid their money and will probably still pay more for the scant crumbs that get swept off the table into their domain.

Well, no fricking shit. But still, even with stuff like

, KnM wasn't some obscure OVA release.
Other than the chinks, what would've been the commercial downside of having Suletta and Miorine officially as a romantic/married couple at the end? Ambiguity made sense ten years ago, but it just attracts bad blood on "SNS" nowadays. Or you don't think the Japanese aren't having these exact same discussions on Twitter?

Moving on, I'm kinda baffled that GSC is releasing a model kit of this thing. I know you people are reading this. That's why you're bankrolling Cinemaphile. Why don't you release an M6 Bushnell from FMP instead?

If you're talking about the antis, yes, they can't stop yapping about muh woke and muh yurigays. Most of the serious threads here haven't been about shipping, but the antis will bring it up regardless, probably because they spend most of their time on shitholes like Cinemaphile or Twitter instead of /m/.

          >I mean what else are you gonna talk about?
          >It's not as if the show has anything substantial to talk about.
The show didn't leave much to talk about, but you still see threads like that recent one about Shaddiq once in a while. As for actual shipping threads, I'd rather these morons ignore these (likely bait) threads and let them die instead of clogging them up with their garbage and moronation, it's not like they're gonna bring up anything of substance.

      Precisely.

      >and they realized confirming a pair of lesbians as the lead characters in a show aimed at young boys wasn’t the smartest marketing idea.
See, that's where you are wrong, kiddo. Bandai aimed this shit at teenagers by their own admission, and that audience loves the homosexual shit nowadays. Why else you think Yuri On Ice became such a big hit?
The show that's actually aimed at young boys is the SD Gundam sub-franchise.

      >If you stepped outside of your bubble for a moment you’d realize the majority of people on this planet don’t actually like homos
Then how/why Disney and the rest keep getting away with it, and become rich in the process? See, for instance, that Owl House garbage.

      >Bandai aimed this shit at teenagers by their own admission, and that audience loves the homosexual shit nowadays. Why else you think Yuri On Ice became such a big hit?
Not exactly true. Yuri on Ice was aimed at adult women, not teens. You can see that from the kind of magazines that had articles on it (non-otaku mags aimed at adult women):
      >When it comes to the world of fashion and lifestyle magazines here in Japan, there’s possibly no name more revered than “Numero Tokyo,” a monthly-published glance into the world of high-fashion, as well as the strides it’s making across the nation. Within the pages of this magazine, you’ll find brand names such as Giorgio Armani, Valentino, Saint Laurent, and now, Yuri!!! on ICE.

They have different series for different demographics.

The Build series is the young boys toy shilling series.

The Universal Century OVA/Movies are for the adult fans.

      G-Witch was the yuri series.

Honestly it feels like Bandai and Sunrise are on completely different pages about the series. Sunrise made a series with te girls planning to be married, are seen wearing wedding rings, Miorine is referred to as sister in law by Eri, there is now semi-official* art of them in wedding dresses together, the Gundam info tweet about the final episode referred to them as being each other's wives, the voice actress referred to them as married in an interview that Bandai had censored after publicarion.

It kind of feels like Sunrise went ahead and made an actual full yuri series instead of a yuribaiting series behind Bandai's back, and now Bandai is trying to deny it.

*Semi Official because it was made by the Staff of the show, but I'm assuming not actually approved by the companies involved as it was sold at comiket. So, like that Godannar doujin made by it's staff to help finance the second season.

See, this is precisely what I mean by "cowardice". If you don't have the cojones to go all the way, why the frick would you bother to "bait" your audience?

The only way you can have a ship together and make the same bank as “will they won’t they” stories is if the pairing is just that good which they usually aren’t, especially when it’s yuri.

It's cute that you think this when the majority of yuri fans are just otaku that are deathly afraid of men. Why do you think most yuri LNs, manga, and anime is just copies of the latest fad but with the main guy genderswapped?
Yuri hasn't actually tried to be a real thing since the 90s. That's why all the good yuri is from the 90s.

Isekai has been a fad for longer than a decade at this point in the post narou-kei world and there are shitloads of isekai yuri LNs and WNs that are basically just popular LN/WN that swapped the main guy for a girl. There's even a Tensura yuri copy even though Rimuru might as well be a girl already.

                >Isekai has been a fad for longer than a decade
That's not the point. It's a massive fad now which is what we're talking about. Most yuri manga aren't isekai these days. Some artists followed the fad like every genre is doing but it isn't a majority.

                Anonymous

That is the point though. You think isekai is the current fad when it's been a fad so long that it's stopped being a fad and just became a solidified fantasy subgenre, and the majority of yuri LNs and WNs right now do follow genderswapping isekai heroes or love interests. The current tend in yuri LNs is copying the fricking villainness and revenger trends from the late 10s.
You're so out of the loop that you still think it's 2013 when Konosuba and ReZero are everything. You probably didn't even notice that the actual fads are shit like the Taisho boom that happened after Kimetsu took over Japan and suddenly Taisho era series were popping up everywhere, including lazy yuri copies of Kimetsu, or how after Sono Bisque charted post anime we got a glut of "MC has a specialized hobby they're ashamed of and love interest drags them out by being genki and passionate" series across Josei and Seinen, including lazy yuri copies that didn't even bother moving it away from cosplay. Or that right now we're in the fricking Spy x Family copy fad.

Except Isekai exploded in popularity recently. There being Isekai series in the past doesn't change that.

No they aren't. You saying shit doesn't make it true.

The fact that you think 7 to 10 years ago is recent means you're either the newest of the newbies, or you're losing your mind and think 2013 to 2015 was yesterday. The big isekai franchises right now were either first published between 2009 to 2013 thanks to the boom of self publishing in Japan or got their anime between 2013 to 2016. Even Tensura, one of the largest isekai properties around, started being published in 2013 and got its manga by 2015.
But hey, you want to pretend that isekai's popularity is new which means you don't actually browse web novel publishing sites, don't look at web comi distributors, and don't read light novels. Normally I'd say good for you because that means you're still pure, but in this current scenario it means you're a fricking loser idiot that doesn't know shit because you singled out isekai when the original post that started this chain only mentioned fads and not specifically isekai.
You're also on the board that has isekai properties going all the way back to the 70s and you don't even realize you're b***hing about a very specific brand of isekai generally known as narou-kei which itself stems from a website that started in 2004 and managed to produce popular franchise like fricking oniichan jesus.
Fricking camping with fenrir started publishing the same year IBO was airing. Guess what? There are a bunch of yuri copies of that series too.

        >Why else you think Yuri On Ice became such a big hit?
Yuri on Ice was popular for a lot of different reasons, the homosexual was the least of that surprisingly. The reason people got into that was because outside of the homosexual moments it told a story that anyone could resonate with and it was also around the time where Yuzuru Hanyu was someone that people knew worldwide.
G-Witch has none of that. Yuri on Ice had characters being actual characters. Yuuri doesn’t immediately and unequivocally follow Viktor unconditionally in their relationship and though they do fight, Viktor made sure to reconcile with Yuri properly. Anytime Miorine was upset, Suletta had to deal with it while when Suletta was upset, Miorine left her to rot. Outside of that, it just did a good job of establishing proper stakes and because Yuuri lost, his victories felt a lot more earned than how Suletta never seemed to actually put in the work, rather she just told Aerial to up the Permet score. I really hate people trying to use that comparison because Yuri on Ice had something for everyone yeah but it also had a story that it wanted to tell and took it’s own approach to it. G-Witch is an amalgamation of things that didn’t blend, let alone work well together topped off with incredibly one note characters who you can’t feel much about because they were never put in any situation where it was dangerous and when it was, it was immediately either reverted or cleared up off screen. The only thing it has going for it is the ship, you could not care at all about Viktor and Yuuri’s ship and still enjoy Yuri on Ice. The same can’t be said of G-Witch.

wfm isn't worse in terms of fandom its just that every generation has its psycho cult addicts that are completely obsessed with secondary aspects. for the oldheads amongst you, do you recall the weird shrines people had on geocities of the gundam wing MCs. that shit was so bananas. its just now with twitter the cultists have a louder voice and it feels like they are everywhere

      Anonymous

A Wufei or Heero shrine sounds infinitely more based than a shrine to any of Gwitch's "Characters"

      Anonymous

That shit was harmless. Having a character shrine doesn’t hurt anyone. Trying to force your homosexualry on others and crying when the big company says they’re going to cater to everyone and not just you is miles worse. Fandom operates entirely different nowadays, G-Witch is just a product of that.

      Anonymous

I mean at least back then you had to put some effort out to find those "shrines" most normal people would just go and play Gundam web RPGs or play the rock paper scissors Toonami Game hours on end or just play Battle Assault with their friends. I used to be able to go into chat rooms and end up talking about how much we would want a gundam like armored core game.

If it feels like they are everywhere then they probably are. I can't go into any discussion on Twitter, reddit, hell even Instagram or tiktok without this shitty fan base talking about "ships" instead of the actual mobile suits, world or faction interdynamics. With the reaction and discussion around Gb***h Honestly I don't mind the Yaoi shit anymore, it used to annoy me when i would come across it but I would much rather have some "shrine" on some shithole corner of the internet I might stumble on or even never see than to immediately be inundated with shitflinging and crocodile tears about whos shipping who whenever I step foot into any conventional website about Gbitch. At least yaoi homosexuals had some decorum of modesty and let other people live.

Rather unless you are person who solely watches a show for romance, you won't find G-witch to be good. Side characters are severely lacking. It feels like the show wants you to care about Earth house but other than Chu-Chu never gave any of them substantial moments.

The romance wasn't even great either. Sulu and Mio barely bounce off each other in S1. I don't even mind the concept too much but I hate yurigay treating this show as a 10/10 when it's just... Meh...

Maybe if she actually had to reconcile her misconceptions and discuss with a teacher how a school should be run that could have actually been interesting but that would take a director who knows what he's actually doing. Most of it is Suletta being sheepish and kowtowing to whatever Miorine is thinking, while Miorine bosses everyone around and doesn't consider what other people might be feeling. That's an alright CEO mindset, but not a good one for personal relationships. Suletta already experienced a bout of depression from Miorine not caring for her, and then Miorine cruelly throws it all away when she fixes Suletta's last duel in Aerial.

They're really not good for each other, and the chief thing keeping them together was just the requirement that the Holder marry Miorine. That's what Suletta kept falling back to and couldn't come up with anything substantial to say about their relationship together. Shallow and unconvincing.

I would say Seed is still a draw, my point was Witch made money not that it's the only Gundam series to make money.

You saw the word highest sales and looked at nothing else in the sentence that actually described the time period and the specific line of said highest sales. Please learn how to read properly.

The image I posted is part of a larger report and I ain't gonna post the whole thing, I'm sure you can google Bandai's financial reports.

I'm sure the release of Cucuruz Doan's Island had no effect on this whatsoever

For toy sales it probably had little to no effect since Bandai did frick all with new kits for the movie, they made Doan's Zaku a P-Bandai exclusive for Pete's sake.

Unfortunately anon almost every kit is pretty much P-Bandai these days unless it's a flagship suit. Frankly I'm sick of it. Half the ReRise kits were P-Bandai.
Yet somehow P-Bandai kits still manage to make the toy charts in Japan and that makes me hate the Japanese consumers even more.
At this point there are more non-Gundam HGs getting put into stores than Gundam HGs. The fact that G-Witch is the first full HG line release since Gundam NT hurts my fricking brain. I would've said Hathaway but I'm pretty sure they just reprinted the Unicorn Gustav Karl instead of put out a Hathaway Karl.

It's initial sales were good, that says nothing about its longevity. If they said that even now Aerial was stillselling well I'd agree with you but that isn't what was said.

              >were still selling better
It's oranges and apples. One is selling "better" in numbers, whereas the other sells "better" in money. You have a bunch of cheap kits for a new audience, whereas the hardcore fanatics will shell out in excess of $1,000 for a luxury metal Nu and Sazabi. Which, by the way, aren't sold anywhere except through P-Bandai's website.

Which still means that once the initial hype died down Aerial's sales weren't contributing as much as those lunatics spending a ton on the higher costing kits.

RG Hi Nu was still the top seller even though it's been like 2 years

This is what I think people are failing to understand. Aerial initially sold amazingly for the line that it was in but after that initial sales period there hasn't been much to comment on and that sales period was a fraction of that fiscal year.

I had my suspicions about how they would tell WfM's story due to Kyoukai Senki/AMAIM: Warrior at the Borderline. With how WfM ended, I doubt I can expect a good mecha story from Bandai Namco Filmworks/Sunrise these days.

The only mecha story I'm enjoying so far is Synduality Noir even if it's tied to a video game that isn't out yet. Of course now, with the warning that it's only 12 episode so far (https://pixela.co.jp/vod/sundualitynoir-anime-muryou/), I have to be cautious with how it will end. Not onyl that, it isn't even Bandai Namco Filmworks/Sunrise (they produced it but the grunt work is Eight Bit).

That and 24+ episodes isn't enough for mecha anime these days because 50 episodes at minimum is needed for world building.

I'm not quite as doompilled. Hathaway's Flash Part 1 was still great, but it was written by Tomino. After that? Probably back to mediocrity.

The only thing I fear are hefty rewrites of the novel. Hathaway is out to kill politicians in a time when Japanese politicians are getting assassinated in real life. Will that change anything for the movies? Probably not, though I wouldn't be surprised if the delay for Part 2 is being extra long because they don't want to release it close to Abe's assassination. But even if we are in for less than ideal changes, I would rather deal with them as they come than agonize over them preemptively.

Tomino himself also has other projects lined up and those should be good as well.

          Anonymous

Hathaway is fine. The majority of the assassinations took place in movie 1. Movie 2s actual problem is that the Federation is going to completely annihilate an Australian city in massive war crimes and because of how well documented the Ukraine-Russo war is people actually saw that shit happening on streams and in real time.
Most of the delay for movie 2 was that they couldn't go to Australia, then most of the upper staff got caught up in projects like Murase with the Psycho Pass movie. G-Witch also had to pull from the Hathaway team a few times to even get some episodes finished making G-Witch Bandai's version of FFXIII.

Fair. I was only talking TV shows though.

Still, if KS/AMAIM and WfM end up with lackluster storytelling, I'm not confident of them doing the story for the Macross show they were approached to do. And before the restructuring into Bandai Namco Filmworks, Sunrise never righted these particular wrongs: a proper treatment of the story Ryosuke Takahashi wanted to tell with Blue Comet SPT Layzner and an expanded story for Mobile Suit Gundam F91.

The problem is that the majority of anime writers are basically all like Dai Sato. They can write a concept but they can't actually write a story.
Most of the good screenplay and scenario writers retired or died during the 2010s. It's basically all on the directors to keep the stories reigned in but both KS and WfM had shitty directors and the problems showed outside of the writing as well. Just compare Murase and Kobayashi when they had similar material but presented them completely differently.
Compare how Hathaway and Gigi cling together while the Messer is lighting up like fireworks while it's being impaled to Aerial winning in episode 1 where it has the god rays and feathers. It's night and day in presentation and cinematography.
Compare the riot mobile suits at the protests in G-Witch to a singular Manhunter Jegan terrorizing Davao as Manhunters assault civilians.
You can argue budget, but the fact still remains that Murase's team also did a better job with similar scenarios in far less time.
And as for narrative, you know more about Davao in 45 minutes than you do about the school in G-Witch in 24 episodes.
You can even compare Hathaway's PTS induced mannerisms to Suletta's post-Mio betrayal depression and see how much more nuanced Murase's team was in their presentation.

I mean, I'm sure the diference in skill is reflected in Murase and Kobayashi's rates.

The biggest hack here is the guy they got to direct the Unicorn OVA who thought downplaying the action in the final episode was a good idea.

Kobayashi is still a bigger hack considering how much of G-Witch was just reused Unicorn and NT scenes.

It definitely shoots down the idea that the staff were entirely onboard with going full lesbian marriage, which was never realistic to begin with. Just severe projection and copium.

Man, Post G-Witch has been more entertaining than currently-airing G-Witch.

I agree; it's kind of wild watching the extreme coping going on between the lesbian fans as someone other than Bandai's execs show that they're not wholly on board with the idea; spinning it either as an organized attempt by Bandai to get the staff on the same neutral page, or just one upset staff member (who also happens to be the art director for Witch).

The cope now is that he was “at odds” with his coworkers and that “he was only an animation director not anywhere near the story.” The staff just wanted to make a good story and them making the doujin was just something fun that they wanted to do as a “what if” not to try and undermine what happened in canon or “make their own ending.” Doujinshi culture in the east isn’t like fic culture in the west where everything is a “fix-it” fic.

Because people took it as an official statement and not just her opinion as the matter, hence why it was causing issues in the first place. Bandai knew what would happen and the editor fricked it up.

          >hence why it was causing issues in the first place
First of all, why should it matter if some people interpret it as a official statement? If it's just their interpretation of Kana's authorial intent then it shouldn't matter. Second, the print interview was only out 1-2 days before the online version. There's no way Bandai could have reasonably assessed any affect it had on the fanbase.

Because they didn’t want to make an official statement.
              >There's no way Bandai could have reasonably assessed any affect it had on the fanbase.
It’s called foresight. They knew what would happen if that part was left in hence the intention to leave it out. It being left in only ended up proving that they were right in wanting to leave it out to begin with. No one’s saying you can’t think that they’re married, you just can force that thought onto other people which is the issue they wanted to avoid. They want the show to speak for itself without any outside or after comment.

              >It being left in only ended up proving that they were right in wanting to leave it out to begin with
The trouble only started when Bandai walked back the statement. No one cared when Kana said they were married and people just brushed it off as some weird error when the text changes were discovered.

No, there was already trouble when people first found out that it was edited. If Bandsi had left it at that there still would have been a shit storm and a bunch of people wondering why it was changed. If they said it was an error people wouldn’t believe them and if they stood by the initial comment it’s like making an official statement that only that interpretation is right. They made the comment because they wanted to clarify that SuleMio marriage was an “if you want it you can have it, if you don’t you don’t have to” thing. I do agree that their wording fanned the flames and gave more outlets and fans ammo but staying quiet would have had those same fans and outlets harassing their staff for answers on it and that’s not a good look for the people they work with.

I think if she had clarified more so that it was her interpretation it would have been different. The way she said it made it sound like Suletta’s development was intrinsically tied to the marriage being canon which is what Bandai didn’t want said because it sounds like less of an opinion and is more so stated as fact.

                >It would invite a number of unpleasant NTR posters who insist that Atra cheated on him with another man
Here’s the thing about that though. People can interpret things and still be wrong but they’re free to interpret it however. If someone believes a cuck fantasy, that’s them. If you look at the show and get something different that’s fine too. If the creators intentions aren’t clear to you, they aren’t shunning you by saying you’re wrong, they’re saying if you have enough to back it up, you can believe whatever you want.

                >the creators' intentions
But we don't know if it was the creator's intentions. This was the clearly publisher's. Perhaps Tsutomu is right and all of the staff really wanted the marriage to be up to interpretation, but that doesn't seem likely given the actions of at least some of them.

Yes you can forgive her hence Bandai trying to spare her the trouble and not letting her take the full force of the comment by herself. Her interpretation is correct but so is others regarding Suletta’s development.
                >but that doesn't seem likely given the actions of at least some of them.
And what actions are those? You need to realize, shipping in Japan for the most part, doesn’t care about if it becomes canon or not because it’s about the journey to get there that matters. Yeah some of the staff like Sulemio and want to give them their own personal version of a happy ending but their bias does not change that the show left it open ended. More than anything, the staff want people to enjoy the story as a whole, they don’t want to force what they like upon others and instead let them enjoy it the way they enjoy it. That’s what both the comment in the doujin and Tsutomu’s comment are trying to get across.

That's the issue though. When the show ended, no one thought it was open ended. It only retroactively became open-ended when the statement was released.

                >Bandai trying to spare her the trouble and not letting her take the full force of the comment by herself

It's the fact that the statement wasn't clarified to be an personal stance in the first place, so Bandai had to make it clear that it wasn't the stance of the company, just an individual, and to avoid confusion, would just outright retract the statement. Just like how most other companies would distances themselves from the statement of an individual employee if they're caught saying something contrary to the current preferred corporate stance.
