Ok OP here so i finished it. I can appreciate what it's trying to do, it's heart is in the right place but man it's not funny at all, really drags it down.
Also the daughter has no reason to be as nihilistic as she is, maybe it'd make more sense if the mom called her a homosexual or made her homeless but seriously the daughter has no reason to become as nihilistic as she is, just go scissor your gf bro it's not that big a fricking deal.
Give it a 6. Not bad but probably wouldn't watch again, it's a very straightforward frick nihilism embrace nihilism film and honestly, i'm kind of sick of this argument to begin with, you arent that deep most of us figured this shit out when we were kids or teens

      >daughter has no reason to be as nihilistic as she is,
Saw it a while ago but I rememer the "daughter" was from the first universe, she got tortured and mindbroken by her mom.
In the rocks scene she admitted that she's just a lost teen, and was waiting for mom to come up with a better answer.

She implies all versions of Joy feel that nihilism, thats why the the final conflict is focused on healing every version. That's what i don't buy, villain could have used more screen time or a rework, doesn't work as well as it could have

          Anonymous

I think they made her too much of a teen caricature, making the characterization suffer.

          >and was waiting for mom to come up with a better answer.
She should have looked into a universe in which she has a loving mom
There's a universe with rock people, there must be a universe in which a women behaves like a normal human female that has a child, 80% of the planet's mom's do just fine
          But huh
I guess that universe huhuuu it's huh locked

          >which she has a loving mom
That's the hero's world right? Hence why she saw sense at the end of the movie and stopped b***hing.

It's stoicism. No matter the circumstances you are in, you should man up and take care of your problems and don't blame others for your frick ups.
Michelle's husband wasn't being a pussy or nihilist, he was taking care of their problems in a more diplomatic way.
The movie is a jab to hate filled zoomers and activists that ape out for stupid reasons instead of being self aware, improving themselves and fixing their damn lives.
The humor is still Reddit as frick though but I buy the message.

Reddit the movie. The message behind it all is annoying. Like teen nihilism will destroy the world and its all because we don't accept teh gay peoples. If we accept the gay peoples then everything will be fine. Because of course that's the cause of all of humanity's problems. I would have liked the part where James Hong was about to blow Stephanie Hsu's head off with a baretta but disappointed that it didn't actually happen.

      >If we accept the gay peoples then everything will be fine.
The movie was written by raging turbohomosexuals.
It's literally considered Oscarbait now to shove your prolapsed anus into the lens and demand to be "acthhhepted!"

Thats why its funny the one on the left during their Oscar acceptance said something like "I dressed as a woman as a kid and it got me here/didn't damage me" - i.e. mocking those against shit like drag queen story hour.

This film and his work as a filmmaker literally embody exactly why parents should NOT let their kids do that shit. Just because he won a bunch of awards from fellow degenerates doesn't negate how infantile this movie ultimately is.

This is the part they'll never admit -- having their revolting degeneracy be "accepted" by society means letting them have access to your kids.
All of the gender/sexuality confusion being taught in schools, normalizing trans kids etc. will have untold horrific consequences for generations to come.

You missed the point of the movie.

I admit the "lol so random" humor is a bit too much and on first watch the whole thing goes too fast but the concept is really unique.
It's the first movie I've seen that shows the kind of chaos and anxiety that comes with having access to the internet from birth, how different it was for the previous generation and how important is the role of said previous generation in so zoomers don't kill themselves from anguish.

People absolutely have that right. If the film goes on for the same runtime as another films and it's not clicked you have absolutely every right to walk out .
Even if you don't walk out, it's still valuable as it's important to help evaluate a films invidual acts and how they made you feel first time. Act 2 in this film is absolutely bloated

        Anonymous

I didn't say you couldn't critique the movie as it's happening, but not having the patience to sit through a movie is moronic. If your time is so precious, don't go watching a 2 and a half hour movie. Stick to TV shows or something.

But i did finish it. I'm not that other anon talking about 90 min films. I posted it earlier, i think it's fine but not a 10/10 masterpiece.
I just don't understand the uproar, people think embracing nihilism is some sort of cosmic epiphany and then pretend it's the deepest shit, fricking please

            Anonymous

Embracing nihilism? I thought the ending was about love and family relationships, that those things DO matter, even if everything else is seemingly irrelevant.

              Anonymous

That's what i meant by embracing it. Accepting nothing matters and to enjoy the little moments with your family even if it meant nothing. That's the original meaning of nihilism

            Anonymous

Because i like to judge a film in total on it's full merits and there is also room for the film to get better and act 3 was much better than act 2. I liked Act 1 quite a bit it's just went too far with the humor around 50 mins in

You made a conscious decision to watch a 2 and a half hour movie. I've walked out of Suicide Squad so I don't care about completion, but to be nebulous and compelled purely by feeling shows a lack of discipline. Yeah yeah I'm just trying to watch a fricking movie, so who cares about discipline, but you still need to make up your mind and stick with something. That goes for anything in life. If I didn't love movies, I wouldn't give a shit. I love music but I'm able to stop an album halfway through if I don't get it, but I will still try to pick it up again later. It's harder to do that with movies.

Not that anon, but lack of discipline doesn't account for the feeling that you are just missing something everyone else is seeing.
