This show probably needed better leadership, if not from the showrunners than the executives above them... but I doubt anyone cared too much. Unlike the Molly or Owl crew, it seems the Hailey crew knew right at the start they wouldn't be getting a lengthy show, so they just winged it.
My favorite is how they made a big deal about capturing a live Chaos bot (because the others always disintegrate when defeated), but then the very next episode the government shoots one and takes its broken pieces to Area 51. Great consistency there.
Another thing... do the Chaos Bots want to stall Hailey's progress, steal her journal, or just kill her outright? Seems to vary greatly from episode to episode.

I feel like they weren’t sure how they were going to structure the show besides making it “semi-episodic” like ‘Amphibia’, where the episodes typically resolve their story upfront, but also have a deeper plot line running underneath the surface.

I really want to know what went wrong with this show. It feels like it was DOA, as if its momentum never existed
it definitely reeks of something like "the executive who greenlight this show got fired or went to a different job shortly after". The pilot wasn't that gripping (half of it took place in Hailey's room) and it never managed a good oh shit moment to get the audience's attention, even Becker's crush fell flat.
i do really like the designs and some of the characters but it was obvious early on this show was a lost cause. if Molly or Owl couldn't survive then this had no shot.

Hailey's potential big moment is either the Scott/Hailey kiss or the Chaos Bots creator being revealed, though I suspect it will happen at the end of this "season" and thus never really get a follow up.

I was on board with the show until this happened.
I didn't even knew this show existed and I watched both the first episode and apparently Halfway Highlights on YouTube. It just feels like a regular, run-of-the-mill cartoon.Though that doesn't inherently mean it's bad, but it's more of a coinflip to see if the demographic they're trying to sell to wants to watch it. Looking at the YouTube stats, no.
It feels like a show that's trying to have lore, but also trying to squash that shit. I mean, at first, i assumed that they were going with the twist that The Professor was going to be the bad guy, with her profiting off of Hailey's machines and using them to enslave the future with Future Hailey trying to prevent her past self from completing the list by preventing her from kissing Scott. So, the big cliffhanger at the end of season 1 would be Hailey proclaiming her feelings for Scott, just before they find this out, meaning that now that she's 100% on board to kiss him, they can't or they doom the future.
Now that we have seen a thoroughly unenslaved future, i'm guessing that the twist is that there is no twist and it's going to just be memes and shenanigans with no greater plot. Kinda like a kid friendly My Name Is Earl.
It feels like the show Executives want kids to like.

Little Black person, HOI's premise from the get-go was "Girl is too scared to kiss boy". It was very clearly a romcom from the beginning, with a backdrop of evil robots occasionally trying to stop her.
Molly Mcgee began as a silly slapstick show with a backdrop of le grim reaper man feeding off the town's misery and Scratch being his unwilling pawn. Then out of nowhere at season 2 it did a hard pivot to being a romcom which it executed poorly, while mostly dropping the ghost side of the show other than to spend a disproportional amount of time driving home to the viewer that Geoff and Jeff are gay for each other to a borderline abusive degree.

I thought it was okay.
I don't know why they thought to attach this idea to an existing show. This could have been a standalone special with the focus solely being on the shorts.
I suppose they needed something to add as buffer so as to not have to churn out so many at a time. But, instead of creating a designated host, they decidedly tied it to a show. Which was the cheaper option and helps a show that probably doesn't get as much attention comparatively to its contemporaries.
Would a Molly McGee / Hailey's On It Crossover be the most boring crossover of all time?
Because the writers would try and use it as a means to not have either Chaos Bots or Ghosts. Think S2 MM writing but the Hailey's On It team has to be ones to make the character designs for the Molly characters

Eh, maybe they could have made something of it. Though as you said, with the way Molly ended up being written in it's second season I wouldn't really put any faith in it. Personally, if we're talking DTVA crossovers, I think I'd rather see Moon Girl crossing over with Hailey. Partially because I want to see what a mix of one of the cheaper looking Disney shows and one of the more expensive looking Disney shows would turn up like. And time travel with killer robots wouldn't be too out of place in Moon Girl either so it doesn't require too much of a stretch to canon.
Moongirl and Molly would have made a better cross-over as they would have had a reason for them to meet and have a backstory

Outside of chibi and Karaoke things.

Kind of had my own idea of Molly and Lunella being best friends for a crossover, but it also involved ghosts possessing super heroes, Casey knowing both Libby and Andrea, the former from Hebrew camp the latter as a friememy, and Scratch possessing Devil.
The idea would be that Molly and Lunella were best friends but since then they've both changed, Lunella is to smart for Molly to understand and Molly is to extreme in her enhappifiying.

How smart is Hailey?
I'm betting this is some fantasy sequence. Up until now he's had some shenanigans but a full submarine for one seems a bit much compared to what AC has been able to do so far.
Isn't AC super rich? Its totally in character for them (especially now given this series getting b shoved out the door as fast as possible) to start leaning harder into AC enjoying the idea of being a super villain

I have this weird suspicion since this show is just a massive failure now whatever they do to wrap up everything will involve AC in some way since he's the rich white male stereotype so he's the most expendable character in the whole show
They'll slapdash some shit together and go "AC from the future was the one built the Chaos Bots and accelerated global warming because he needed to do irreversible harm to the planet to build his robot army."
They can even lean into it and go "From the moment I was born I hated my pudgy human body. I craved the structural consistency of solid steel. I yearn to be as metallic as my chaos bots so naturally it was an easy decision."
Either that or there is no ending because the show was greenlit before the DTVA freeze.
