I've got two kids and my wife and I enjoy it. Some of the music is trash, but overall there's generally more good/funny than cringe which makes it a decent watch. It is absolutely millennial bait though, and calling it "sexy" is misleading. It's just gay. Like really, really gay.

What if someone wants their kids to grow up open minded? You realise letting your kids get exposed to modern sexuality in a cartoon format can only make them more nuanced and mature?

              Anonymous

Being open minded doesn't guarantee the kids will make educated decisions when they get older. Your goal shouldn't be to make your kids accept everything and everyone, like some kind of open borders political policy. You should teach them the realities of the world, the real world, not a cartoon world of homosexuals and sing-a-longs.

Ignore all who say making all the characters in hell gay is based or accidentally based.

The show makes it a point that heaven is unfair to the oppressed residents of hell who dindu nuffin.
      Angels are the main antagonists.
Actual rapists or mass murderers are never portrayed in hell so all the characters were probably sent there just for being gay because "haha that's so unfair right? silly religion!"

"Couldn't play it safe without it going against their ideals." The point I was making is in the very sentence you quoted, in regards to how heaven is portrayed. We live in a world were people (like Viv, the author of the show) would be offended if the angles were right about keeping sinners inside hell.
They play it safe because no one in hell is some Misc Pot dictator that wants to commit genocide. Instead we have quirky gays and queers who only want to have lots of sex and do drugs all day.

It's not fully explained as of now. The theories are either they get wiped from existence completely, or their souls are absorbed into hell itself, basically they get trapped as inanimate things in hell (that's for sure someone's fetish).

    [...]

Well that's the problem, there's no law enforcement and shit, souls are left to self govern because Lucifer is a depressed frick who doesn't give a shit. And because it's hell the majority of souls there are self destructive morons barely capable of self governing. You can killed at the street randomly, someone can kidnap you and put you in a torture dungeon and no one will do shit. I think the shittiest time in HH hell would be when you just died and found yourself there. You need to find a job, shelter to survive. I think the implication is that the only way for an average normalgay to do that is to sell their soul to a powerful demon (usually those are also souls of the dead humans that managed to self sustain in Hell and gain followers). Those demons are overlords who basically rule over hell. And those overlord demons are usually sadists and shit like that. The gay spider is a porn star / prostitute of Valentino, a pimp overlord who said he killed shit ton of prostitutes over small annoyances. And I bet there's monkeypaw shit for every overlord.
There are also purges from Heaven. Everyone is scared of dying in Hell which means that what comes after that is worse. I think non-existence is not that bad, most likely the theory about becoming trapped in an inanimate thing will be the canon one.

that’s true but the main idea is that morality, or at least heaven and hell, are arbitrary. you have good and bad guys in both, so in the end there’s no genuine distinction between them

Because the one group is shown being nice and doing good things, and the other is shown being bad and killing people. The morality of the show seems pretty straightforward that being nice is good, and killing people is bad. Do you disagree with that or something?

So it’s morally binary and incredibly simplistic, and the faux complexity of heaven and hell is just a facile sheen to obscure that?

            Anonymous

all this shit is simplistic. morally grey means “whatever morality the author has”.

            Anonymous

The morality of the show seems to be that regardless of whatever credentials a person or group may have, whether they're actually good or bad is ultimately determined by whether or not they exhibit good or bad behavior. If you go around saying you're an angel therefore you must be good, and then continuously slaughter people for no reason, then you're not good. Conversely if everyone says you're a demon and you live in hell therefore you must be bad, it's equally just as inconsequential if you spend all your time being good and doing good things, or actively seeking moral redemption and legitimately changing

              Anonymous

this makes the setting pointless though. it’s an allegory for the political life of earth. institutions are made of individuals who are complex, we know. but heaven and hell are meant to be spiritual realities- the entire criteria is an essentialist and moral one. if you can go into heaven being cruel, or into hell being kind, they cease to be heaven or hell but completely arbitrary political groupings at war over nothing but power. you can just set it on earth if that’s the case. the entire point of hell is that it is for people, who on a metaphysical level, do not want to change. these aren’t meant to be political allegories but deeper speculations about how we define essential good and essential evil at its core; because these people can only understand reality through politics, heaven and hell aren’t some sort of metaphysical speculation on humanity for them, they’re just competing teams vying for power. which is fine and a completely valid way to talk about people, but it does make the spiritual setting redundant

                Anonymous

It doesn't appear to be any kid of allegory for anything specific, except in the vaguest way possible it focuses on injustice and cruelty, alongside the struggle for redemption and self improvement in the face of adversity. But none of that is specific to anything and certainly no particular political situation. Hell is just an interesting and unusual setting, and I don't think there's any deeper further meaning to it beyond it just being an interesting place to set the show that allows for certain amounts of fantasy and magic to be involved because it's inherently super natural

                Anonymous

I agree with you, I don’t think the show is trying to be deep with it, is what i’m saying. If it’s trying to be a serious critical of theology it fails, but as an excuse to portray larger than life characters in an absurd reality who gives a shit. I don’t get the outrage myself, even if the anti religious stuff annoys me a little bit. I found it pretty entertaining and light hearted and will continue to watch it

It's a case of moral subjectivity, the leftist's bread and butter. It's what allows them to get away with egregious shit that never would have been allowed in decades past

                Anonymous

It's not moral subjectivity at all. In fact it's the opposite. A demon who does bad things is judged just as harshly as an angel who does the same thing. Seems fairly objective. Are you ESL by chance?

                Anonymous

It's subjective in the sense that being sent to Hell doesn't necessarily mean you've been BAD! BAD is subjective! Because why else would you be sent to Hell? The sinners of Hell dindu nothin.

They clearly have sinned in their past. But does that mean they should be beyond any redemption? I thought "forgiveness" was our whole bread & butter.

Heck it's my big issue with the rapture. I never liked the idea of going, "Oh sure I'm going to Heaven but screw the heathen who has otherwise lived a moral life." Shouldn't the moral heathens get, at worst, purgatory?

There was a tradition in the middle ages of doing a sort of comic inversion of society during celebrations. Lords would serve their peasants, good would be evil, there were comic depictions of absurd objects going UP anuses, a thing created to push things out of it. The romans had a similar tradition on saturnalia. For them this was a joke, a funny thing to imagine “what if reality was backward and upside down”. For leftists it’s literally reality

Homelander is better than Soldier Boy. Soldier Boy is a fraud and a needless dick, so "heroic" his entire team decided to kill him.

Is the latest Helluva Boss episode good? I decided to drop it in that episode where the clown demon and Blitzo kept crying the whole time when they show us that their entire beef was caused by a accident

No. She's intentionally ruining HB to make people watch HH (which is inferior at every level.)

Damn that sucks, i actually liked the HB pilot and was hoping the actual episodes could reach it's level but i guess it's never going to happen.

I always imagined Hell to be a surreal place with literal ZERO boundaries traveling on forever. As vast as outer space without any end. A cartographer would never be out of a job there.

TLDR: Hell isn't a globe, it's just infinite space.

when did hell become some sort of surreal place

The guy that wrote Starship Troopers, Robert Heinlein wrote a book with a lot of similar themes to the version of Hell depicted here. It's called Job: A Comedy of Justice. It doesn't exclusively take place in Hell, but it does spend a lot of time there, as well as in heaven, and similarly Heaven is depicted as awful and bad, and Hell is a really fun nice place to live. I realize that's an awful description, but you'll just have to take my word for it that it's actually pretty good

I mean as some spiritual land you can only talk about it analogy it was destined to become that. It started with weird dream vision literature about monks visiting hell, and then was consolidated with dante and bosch who portrayed it as a symbolic representation of evil. That way any sort of object of the senses can stand in for moral and spiritual chaos. I think also, historically, western art felt more comfortable portraying hell than it did heaven, since it’s easier to picture a horrible nightmare than it is ethereal bliss. Cherubs singing and cuddling isn’t as visually striking as bizarre monstrosities mutilating people in creative ways. You have more artistic freedom with it, so it got depicted more.

i always found it cool how hell is all man made artificial objects in bosch compared to eden which is entirely biological and natural. it’s almost like saying hell is of our own making, nothing is there people don’t bring with them

Honestly I agree with how the medieval christians did it. Heaven is meant to be metaphysical perfection, something non sensory that would be impossible to portray in language or image. Even dante prefaces the paradiso by saying words are a rather terrible approximation of what he experienced, ending with a scene where he sees every combination of every possible thing (all substance and accident) in some mind bending vision of all of time and reality. You can’t really paint that. I think it’s also a psychological thing, heaven is meant to be our dreams coming true, our ultimate happiness, and since that’s always a horizon we chase more than an actual thing, whatever we see or have described to us will not be adequate. It’s much easier and more fun to describe what evil looks like, since they didn’t need to be reverent toward it and pretty much had free rein to imagine anything.

There is no afterlife. Magic and fairytales don’t exist, we’re biological creatures. After your heart stops and your brain shuts down, you cease to exist and it’s just pure pitch black nothingness.

In other words, there's no reason not to believe in an afterlife since by the time I find out there is no afterlife, I'll be vanished from existence anyway, lol.

The main reason is that the belief fuels homophobia and chud shit.

How come everybody in the afterlife is either white or black? I think there's like maybe one latin person, but that's pretty much it. Statistically shouldn't like 2/3 of the people in Heaven and Hell be Asian?

Okay, I'm enjoying the music when it's just more or less traditional broadway style showtunes, but they have GOTTA stop trying to throw in this Hamilton-style "broadway rap" shit like some kind of Wish version of Lin Manuel Miranda. That shit never ever sounds good, somebody please get congress to pass a law that musicals aren't allowed to try and put rap songs in their shows

It's not even rap. It's more like "slam poetry" (aka white girl "rap".)

I don't care man, call it whatever you feel like, I'm just calling it bad because that's what it is. It's like barely one step removed from Robin Williams doing his 1980's B-Boy "rap guy" character he used to always trot out back in the day for Comic Relief and it would make everybody under 75 cringe

Congress is drafting a law requiring 33% of all musical numbers to include raping as we speak.
