Evrry day is free comic book day! Heil Hydra!
Every day is Free Comic Book Day. Hail internet piracy!
He's talking about Win-O you idiot
I forgot it was today. I guess batman
My LCS has shit parking that can't handle more than 10 people, it's an hour and a half away on foot, and it's going to storm.
Have fun, and I envy all of you who can get the Fantagraphics book.
>it's an hour and a half away on foot, and it's going to storm.
>I either drive the whole way or not at all
Park closer. What a moronic thing to say.
That being said this anon is right:
Who the frick cares? Everything is just a glorified catalog/preview. FCBD issues are no different than what you see on previewsworld every week.
Is there a single 22 page one-shot FCBD this year? Even a child would open one of these and discard it, dejected, within ten minutes feeling like they wasted their parents time going to the shop.
>Is there a single 22 page one-shot FCBD this year?
I count 3 to 8.
Name them
The dc mad issue was 20 pages of reprinted DC gags, I enjoyed it.
Why didn’t you list the 3-8 you counted?
FCBD 2024 LOUD HOUSE SPECIAL
FCBD 2024 MALEFICENT #1 (a reprint, but the first issue does stand on it's own)
FCBD 2024 MARVEL & FANTAGRAPHICS PRSNT ATLAS COMICS LIBRARY
FCBD 2024 SNOOPY BEAGLE SCOUT ADVENTURES
Maybes:
FCBD 2024 DISNEYS ENCANTO & TURNING RED NEW ADV
FCBD 2024 HELLBOY STRANGER THINGS
FCBD 2024 TONS OF STRANGE
FCBD 2024 MONSTER HIGH
What am I, seven years old?
not necessarily, it could also be for people attracted to seven year olds.
Goal post was set, goal was scored.
Not my problem.
>FCBD 2024 LOUD HOUSE SPECIAL
I had hope that this one could be in my place; but nein, an employe said me that not all catalog's comic arrived or couldn't get in time.
I don't care about the previews I care about the sale my lcs has
I just picked up the Ed Piskor one rip
Damn.
You picked up the 2021 Red Room fcbd in 2024?
I've worked every FCBD for the past 6 years, this is the first one I have free but I don't think there's anything that's worth picking up is there?
I recommend you pick up FCBD Eye Lie Popeye I have heard it's a good book.
Haven’t gone yet, but it looks like most of the free comics are catered towards young kids
well yes there comics
If you unironically pick up Spidey & His Amazing Friends, there's something wrong with you
Reqlly wanted the transformers issue, but I can't go this year.
juss wanna read my capeshit
The Street Fighter comic was cool this year. Glad to see my boy Cody in the spotlight. Hopefully it means he'll be season 2 of SF6.
The only LCS in my area that does FCBD doesn't sell trades so no
None, I'm staying home today.
Picked up
>Energon Universe Special
>Gatchaman #0
>Dying Inside
>Street Fighter vs Final Fight
>Star Wars
>Pokemon
>Doctor Who
Didn't really care for the Marvel/DC titles and they ran out of TMNT where I went
Went to the shop I help out at, busy busy day! We do well even in this doom and gloom era of "Comics are dying" you see posted here all the time. Got myself a copy of Absolute DC Heroes, drawn by Alex Ross and written by Paul Dini. Didn't even know we had one in stock! Been looking for a copy for ages
Really enjoyed the FBCD issue of Energon Universe.
If anyone picked up the Blood Hunt/X-Men comic, please storytime it
Thanks
i fricking went to my "local" comic shop (an entire hour away) excited to get some free comics, and then when i get there i find out all the free comics are gone even though the event should've been on for a few more hours.
but of course it was still full because of manga weebs congregating along the entire stretch of the two storey shop.
Big 2 aren’t worth touching anymore.
My LCBS has changed the location of the price tags again, as well as upped the prices.
It says 2.50 on the cover, but it's 6 on the back. And that's just for Sonic the hedgehog.
So I gather my sensibly priced total, get to the register, and he charges me a higher price. Discount bin is cover price. After I get home, go over it again with a calculator, and yup, that's 12$ above the real total.
I think I just paid for his lunch.
It’s “LCS” homosexual
LGNS
I somehow spent like 80 bucks today comics are fricking expensive.
>Spending that much on shit
Lol
How do you know it's shit I haven't even posted what I got.
Maybe I got a bunch of classic back issues.
What did you snag?
John Carpenter Toxic Commando 1 & 2, Creature from the Black Lagoon, DC's Aperil special, the Aperil Titano variant, two Power Girl variants, a Spider-Woman variant, Werewolf by Night 1st appearance of Moon Knight facsimile, Toxic Summer, some issue of Sheena, Red Wolf 1 and a back issue of Manifest Destiny I wanted.
So yes like
said.
You really did buy a bunch of absolute dogshit. Buying anything by ram v is just sad.
I see The Creature from the Black Lagoon and I CONSOOM.
I spent 20 minutes picking out my free comics and doing a small amount of browsing and then like 45 minutes standing in line because despite having like 8+ employees they only had one register open.
And I forgot to pick up bags and boards.
Let's see
>Raining
>None of the comics interest me to go out and get in-person
>Store is 96 percent floppies
no
is 96 percent floppies
That’s a good thing though…
Dude, I buy trades mostly as gifts for libraries or friends
I only buy floppies for comics that REALLY need the support
You sound like a massive homosexual.
I refuse to go out and interact with others unless starving or work is involved.
>Casually asked the guy who runs my LCS about the Ultraman Rising swag a few days beforehand
>He ended up giving me the entire supply of cards and miniposters because I'm apparently the only regular with even a slight interest in it.
So much for TsuPro's western expansion.
There was a lot of Japanese stuff at mine so I got One Piece Ace Gaiden, Gatchaman, and Initial D
I also got TMNT, Street Figther, and Spider-man and a bunch of stuff that looked like it'd be good for little kids for my nephew.
any story times?
Only 1 mainline Ghost Rider this year, but I cleaned up on the spinoff series
Went to my local and it was packed, picked up my pulls (Hulk, Moon Knight, and last weeks Avengers and Daredevil) plus the FCBD issues for Asterix, Energon Universe, and Blood Hunt plus the Brood Saga omnibus.
Why do shops limit how many Free Comic Book day titles you can take home? With a limit, a lot of people would probably just take the Marvel and DC ones, and never get hooked on the smaller titles that you really need the attention. I think getting existing comic readers hooked on new series they aren't reading yet is way easier than hooking a non comic reader on comics in general. I'd think exposing people to new books should be the priority for shops on free comic day.
I would've gotten a few extra today if I could've because some other stuff looked cool, but I stuck to books I was already reading.
My shop had 5 per person, but also added in back issues instead of just the new ones out.
But you have to figure, if there's no limit then there's nothing stopping someone from taking like 50 books from the store, not buying anything, and then turning around and selling them to make some extra money.
They'd just be bleeding money more than they probably already do.
You have to have a realistic view of them as a business, and not an optimistic view of everyone becoming new readers when really maybe 1 in 10 will become a regular at the store.
I guess I understand that. Still I'm in there every week so I was slightly annoyed I couldn't get everything I was interested in. I got the Absolute Power one, Spider-Man/Ultimate Universe, and Flash Gordon. Worst case scenario I'll have to buy the "for money edition" of the Energon Universe one-shot. And I was thinking of jumping into TMNT but I wasn't able to get that issue so that sucked a little bit.
I guess a limit makes sense but I think five would be less frustrating than three. In my opinion. Then you can get the books you're already reading and check out some new ones. That's just the way I see it. But maybe he'll have some left over when I come in next week. I don't know.
Mine is five and then another five if you spend at least 10 bucks.
With comic prices (and LCS prices) that's not hard to do.
>Why do shops limit how many Free Comic Book day titles you can take home?
You might've gone too early. I went around 1pm and they were limiting people to 5 comics each and the place was packed. Went back 2 hours later and the restriction was gone and you could take as many as you wanted.
Eh.
The only comic shop "near by" is still about a 40 minute drive from me, and they're not even doing any deals to go along with FCBD to get some extra sells.
So I'm not going out of my way to check out like...3 books that are just going to be previews anyways.
I may as well just wait until tomorrow when there will be fewer people and i'll be out doing stuff anyway and see if they have any trades I want instead of wasting gas today.
So what's Marvel and DC pulling this time anyway?
Tim Sheridan was at my FCBD event...but at least Norm Rapmund was right next to him. He was a bro compared to Tim. He even gave me this sick Wolverine print for 10 bones with free signing.
Is he the guy who begged people to buy his homosexual Green Lantern book?
>look up Tim Sheridan
>The guy writing the current Scott Alan comic
>The guy writing the recent Scooby doo movies
Is there anything reedemable about his carrer in Cinemaphile?
Man I wish Juni Ba was the main writer for the new ongoing TMNT in instead of Jason "Godbutcher" Aaron
I wanted Gatchaman and Jonny Quest but sadly my LCS didn't order either. I grabbed the TMNT issue at least. Sales were good though I got a lot of back issues, and three hardcovers.
Simple, yet pretty kino
Big Jeremy Adams fan. I hated they took him off Flash. Glad he's on Flash Gordon.
I saw a Jim Rugg Hulk comic at my shop while I was there. Should I have picked it up?
Man, I hoped for that Conan event now.
This year kinda sucked though, since it was pouring buckets. Sucked alot of the fun out.
Not like that year where the local sorority was out on a jog that morning...
I went this year but didn't leave with anything. They were encouraging you to buy something before going to the free table which put pressure on me; it was working for others though because there was a huge line.
I'm far more on the cartoon side of Cinemaphile so I wasn't really sure what to get, so I just left after browsing a while. I do want to get into comics though so I might return when it's less busy.
The Energon Universe has been really cool so far. I'm loving what Ghost Machine has been putting out. I also really love Green Lantern. Just some suggestions for current ongoings.
I did pick up ghost machine, old dog, Thundercats, massive verse shift one shot, and static season 2. Out of all the fcbd issues, Gatchaman was my go to. I missed out on some of Battle of the Planets by Top Cow years ago but this was a great starter for the new series starting July.
>Battle of the Planets by Top Cow
Fun fact, they were originally planning a Voltron crossover with Devil's Due who had the license at the time
You serious??
At least the Robotech/Voltron crossover saw print. That was great.
Seeing this page sent me ALL THE WAY back. I still have a good chunk of my wizard magazines in a tote. Damn. I still remember that imagi movie we almost got but I refreshed myself on it earlier, sooooo many rewrites.
Are getting a free comics?
Void Rivals is a surprisingly good book. This is the sort of thing that Marvel might have put out back in the 70/80s when they were trying out new story/characters ideas.
It's definitely got a 70s/80s vibe. Very Enemy Mine but also kinda ROM.
Went to my usual store later in the afternoon than I wanted to go because I got held up running errands. When au got there most of the table was cleared off besides some bland indie shit. Went to another store about an hour away with a four book limit and got Power Rangers, Monster High, and Pokemon for my nephews and niece and Gatchaman for myself. Ended up buying some $20 card game that I'll keep in reserve as a birthday/Christmas present for later in the year. Not the best FCBD I've ever had, but it was nice to get out of the house.
>Power Rangers
there was a Power Rangers FCBD this year?
It was called "Ranger Academy".
That was on FCBD last year
Then I may have gotten one of last year's books by mistake.
Free comics?
>I bought
>I bought
>I bought
Jesus I thought it was free comic book day, not go to the store and pick up a preview and childrens tv show tie in then get shamed into buying whatever slop based off the cover day. Thank God I didn't go.
No sorry. Feel free to buy some issues in the back though.
Oh..
