He would have been 15 when WW2 broke out, 20 when Japan got nuked and he would have been witness to the cuban missile crisis, cold war weapons race and the development of the hydrogen bomb, chernobyl, pollution. So it could have been as simple as "It's them or us".
That would have been a fairly understandable point of view to have and the moral conundrum of it being Voldemort not having any faith in humanity to not blow the entire world up and Harry And The Goody Two-Shoes having some faith in humanity and thinking their worth protecting.
But nah, Rowling made him a cackling villain even though the targeted audience for the later installments of the series was well into their late teens. Maybe I expected too much of this series in terms of logical consistency.

With the implication being, unrestricted breeding between purebloods, halfbloods, and mudbloods will gradually reduce the overall magical population over the course of generations
The funny thing is that none of this is even inconsistent with the lore. Rowling said that the only reason muggle-borns exist is because they have a squib somewhere in their ancestry. But it's an interesting and nuanced idea, so of course she never did anything with it.
Is it true that voldemort isn't really viewed as the greatest threat to humanity by other parts of the world? I read somewhere that other magic cultures weren't really impressed and have their own legends who they believed to be a greater threat than tom riddle.
