Ex-Army gay here. Ironically living in a citadel with walls that need defending from invaders would be the most ideal situation for justifying not only being part of a defence force, but conscription.
ie. If you benefit from living within the walls, then defending them when necessary is part of the deal for all able-bodied males. If you don't agree to that, or want to shirk that responsibility when it matters, then don't be shocked if you get thrown over that wall to fend for yourself.
What complicates matters is when your 'defence' force ventures outside those walls to attack someone else's citadel with a justification you can't be sure of firsthand. eg. They have weapons of mass destruction and are planning to attack you, so you should attack first. Big if true, but then you're getting into the realm where it's easy for politicians, elites, israelites, and other scheming liars to use you for conquest.
I'm not an isolationist, the world is a dangerous place, and I don't even blame the US for World Policing it, (for better or worse), per se. I don't expect perfection and I'm not shocked at collateral damage when a superpower swings its dick around. There are much worse scenarios than US hegemony. Doesn't mean they can never step over the line though.
Even when I was in my own nation's military, I knew there might be orders/military actions I might have to conscientiously object to, even without perfect information. Just like a cop, a soldier is not a robot, and there is such a thing as 'war crimes' as oxymoronic as that may sound to some people. They could never have ordered me to take military action against the civilian population in my own country for example, (like over a 'muh pandemic' or some shit like that), or commit war crimes against anyone else's, (and you deserve to get left holding the bag in some kind of Nuremberg Trial after the fact if you do shit like that).

Just don't let them shove you into a shitty MOS with 0 private career prospects (sounds like you know that). Also make use of tuition assistance, get certs paid for if the army has a program like the air force does, and don't let the recruiter or MEPS bully you into signing a longer contract. Also go to lots of doctors appointments so you have plenty of documentation for disability payments when you're done

I played Halo and Call of Duty a lot as a teenager but i never even considered enlisting. I can barely handle stressful situations as is and getting yelled at is enough to bring me to tears. I've been terrified of being drafted since I heard about it. If I was ever drafted, I'd probably have an anxiety attack and kill myself
