Has anyone else come across channels like this? It's usually some guy with a monotone voice recapping a movie, hitting every scene and explaining the major beats and usually giving the twist ending. There's a ton of these channels out there. How are they able to function? Are they legal? Does anyone actually watch them?
This channel is hilarious. Every single video uses a thumbnail that is photoshopped and not from the movie and every title for a video mentions somebody getting clapped and then the movie is something like Arrival. It's the kind of kino that could only exist on modern YouTube
i wish these channels were illegal, same with reaction channels. the people running these channels and watching them belong in prison.
I would add "dude just reads a news article interjecting useless opinions every third paragraph" to the list

I’ve watched them and talked about them here before. It seems their either Indian or Eastern Europeans using AI/computer speech to read a script but can’t be bothered to correct pronunciations.

That would actually make sense if it's AI. The delivery is so monotone and there are words that are mispronounced all over the place that just make you scratch your head. I can't give any examples but when I've watched videos like this I always stop and chuckle at the mispronouncing something basic af. Where are the scripts coming from though? Wikipedia?
It's not AI, it's just old text to speech (some channels have definitely started using AI, but most of these have existed for several years). Also many of them exhibit the same issues that some text to speech softwares have, such as pronouncing "live" (verb) as the noun, which isn't an issue with AI since they take from context.
They still have to write the script themselves, which is why some channels are, ahem, higher in quality compared to others.
There's a lot of shit like this on YouTube. Science channels that are poorly researched but presented as facts. Legitimate looking channels that have an insane amount of content output that literally can't be made by one human, so the guy just outsources all his shit to content farms to do his research and write his scripts for him cough SunnyV2. All of it really boils down to people to people using click bait to trick idiots, kids, and Indians to clicking their shit and generating money through monetization. That cannel in the OP in particular has mastered clickbait headlines.
I like watching them from time to time, it's just like reading the wikipedia plot summary for movies you're interested in knowing what happens but can't be fricked actually watching.
I preferred when they used the text-to-speech voice though.

This is the only way I watch movies now. Feels great to watch 10 movies a night at x1.5 speed before dropping a review. Makes me feel a verified critic on rotten tomatoes.
I watch a load of these everyday at like 4x speed while drinking 3 or 4 coffees instead of watching movies.
