Why does lenders insist this will be a thing when it clearly can’t be?

idk but it's extremely bizarre, penders is perfectly competent when drawing human characters but he insists on drawing these d-list sonic oc abominations for some reason.
although being honest i would 100% buy this thing if it had a physical release, there's something oddly charming about unintentionally hideous comics.

Because he knows that the only bit of relevance he ever had was through his Archie Sonic work, and he now desperately clings to it in the desperate hope it'll catch on again.

Thing is, its all worthless without Sonic or Knuckles, and no matter how much he begs and pleads with Sega, they will never let him be within an inch of their characters ever again.

This. If Penders had actual faith in his work and his fans, he would literally just redraw the characters to look like humans and just republish the Archie comic stories that he technically has the rights to. He could literally re-do the entire Knuckles series with new character art and get away with it. But he knows that the only real reason anyone read his shit was because it was stapled on to Sonic the Hedgehog.

it's because of Penders, Archie, and SEGA all took diarrhea dumps is their mattresses, Sonic got screwed out of 300th issue record that was "reclaimed" by Conan and G.I. Joe (don't bother reading the latter's 300 "issue" from IDW. You'll only get disappointment)

This looks like a full-page ad you'd see in a video game magazine from the late '90s. All it's missing is the PlayStation logo.

i get it that penders is Chris-chan if he had his dream job of working on sonic, but how did he get sucked into sonic oc shit in his 30's?

Long story short - Penders always wanted to do the story that he wrote in the Archie Sonic comics as its own comic, but no publisher ever wanted it. So, when given free reign over the Knuckles comic, he shoehorned in his story concept as Knuckles' lore. Later on, Penders was able to get the rights to all the shit he did when he was working on Archie Sonic; primarily the characters themselves. HOWEVER, Penders is painfully aware that the reason why those characters were beloved to being with was because they were anchored TO Sonic and Knuckles. As such, even though he has the rights to do the comic he always wanted, he has to keep them looking like Sonic OCs as close as possible to pull in the old fans.

Technically Penders doesn't even own the characters, just the stories themselves. Despite common belief the story he told about the contracts being rejected was totally made up, the only reason he "won" was because Archie had made such a headache for them Sega forced their hand to settle

Huh. I thought he officially owned all of his OCs, too. He obviously didn't get the rights to Knuckles himself or his design (I remember when Penders tried to claim that and then mysteriously shut up about the next day), but I though he at least got the concept of things like "Julie-Sue; cyborg warrior and former member of the Dark Legion"."

While the case was settled out of court and we only have his word to go on, the court docs officially proved that the copies of his contract Archie had were accepted by the court despite earlier statements, meaning he didn't own shit. Archie gave him the rights to the stories he personally wrote in regards to reprints and royalties but nothing else from what we know, but I could be mistaken and he does at bare minimum own the basic ideas of concepts he introduced.

I think he copyrighted many of the characters on the side without Archie or Sega's comsent.
