Filtered as frick. Aliens turned the franchise into a generic 80s testfest, gettig rid of all the nuance, terror and sexual undertones of the first. Thankfully, Fincher saw this too and turned it back into what it was supposed to be, expanding the universe and birthing new, interesting characters. Also, killing off Ripley was a great decision, just to make sure no director would in James Cameron fashion try to spin the franchise around yet again on what it's supposed to be. This return to thematic origins was also the main point of both Prometheus and Covenant, but these two took that as a starting point to expand the world into other realms, those of religion and creation, which is fine too.
In the end, Aliens was a disaster that almost ruined the idea behind Alien.

It ends with a predator turning up at the end setting the sequel for Batman and Superman versus Aliens versus Predator with a big final battle involving the justice league and a bunch of predators.
