The leaks have to be one of the greatest bits of sabotage. Batman v Superman gets traction and BAM Marvel whips out civil war in 5 minutes. Zack wants an omega battle with all DC characters BAM Marvel whips out Endgame. Shit's wild.
Geoff Johns and Kevin Feige were college buddies and worked together as assistants in Richard Donner's movies.
WB execs always wanted to have a working relation with Feige, and possibly some sort of cross-over ideas between their DC movies and the MCU.
Johns was their go-to guy to that to work. Johns even invited Feige to come and see the Justice League sets, after Joss Whedon had been hired for the reshoots.
The same happened again when Walter Hamada got James Gunn to make The Suicide Squad. Gunn called Feige to come see the sets.
This is another reason why Gunn got the CEO job, since Gunn himself touted that Feige thought of him as his second guy, with Gunn saying he helped Feige in all the recent MCU movies by giving notes.
Bet you Zaslav is hoping to get Gunn and Feige to work together on a possible cross-over in the future.
I wouldn't have minded this bullshit had they executed it with their superior casts. Robert Downey Jr, Ben Affleck, Chris Evans, Henry Cavill, Scarlett Johansson, Gal Gadot etc. That film would have broken the box office for decades. Now Marvel is scraping the bottom of the barrel for C-List characters and they're in shambles creatively. I don't trust James Gunn to not frick things up. If they had the vision for a crossover I wish they would have figured it out when they had elite casting already in place on both sides.
The rumor is that Feige turned Johns offer down, after the disastrous JL box office. That helped kill Johns career as a big time producer for the WB movies.
Now Feige would probably say yes, because like you said they need a win.
Where it all goes wrong is them wanting to Marvelize DC. The crossover only works because both sides are so different, and seeing those worlds collide is interesting. They send Joss fricking Whedon, director of The Avengers, father of the endless Marvel quips to finish Justice League. Now the director of Guardians of the Galaxy is running DC. Crossover is fun. But stop trying to make DC into Marvel. That's where Gunn is gonna frick this. DC is gonna lose its identity.
I don't think "grimdark" or "mature" or anything else would have made DC better inherently, but they were absolutely moronic to throw it away. Marvel set themselves up to be the clowns, straight up murdered the idea of comedy movies because now we get our jokes from summer blockbusters. DC being edgy or whatever was their opportunity to be evaluated on their own merit and explore their own ideas. Being Diet Marvel literally only serves to highlight what they didn't do as well as Marvel used to and make their mediocre efforts seem bad which creates a reputation problem that fed into itself and became worse.

Wonder Woman was in BATMAN V SUPERMAN for all of 6 minutes and she was already front and center. Woke shit.
It's an odd scenario. The trilogy is a 3 part origin for Superman. Zack said that he had the suit and power, but he was still Kal, he was till Clark. He did not become Superman until he was changed by these events and by Batman, who in turn had a sort of reorigin of his own. The trilogy ends with them becoming the characters we want and love, it is entirely about them, they don't just star. They got meme'd on too hard though, so they were shoved aside for WW and Aquaman to have the center spot because their stand alone movies are considered the good ones.
