Have we all accepted that Spider-Man comics would be in a better state if Peter had retired to raise Mayday with MJ (while still being in the book) and Ben took over as Spider-Man

Sure, who cares
Frick no, Peter is Spider-Man - end of story. Anything to the contrary is a tacit resignation from writers that they can't develop Peter out of a lack of skill
It's a solution born of compromise. Peter still develops as a character but without recklessly endangering his life while he has a child to raise and Marvel still gets their Spider-Man that isn't tied down
meanwhile, outside of your headcanon..... reality keeps moving forward
Enjoy what little crumbs your fed, gay.
Mjsisters are in full retreat.
They can't handle it. Bask in your own defeat kek
At least MJgays were winning once upon a time. You pathetic gays were never even contenders.
Whose got the belt now bucko?
Cope. Seethe. Mald.
>Whose got the belt now bucko?
Good question.
If your ship needs OMD for it to work...
I'm so sorry for you.
Gentlemen please this is a clonebro thread, leave the shipping at the door
Too late. Felicia bros? Bring me his testicles.
Seething ON
Trigger OFF
>relax Peter, we're done here...
???
Did that set off red flags for anyone else?
Is Felisha gonna betray Spidey?
Yes. But Marvel editorial isn't ready for it.
Spider-Girl What If was the perfect ending for the Spider-Man story and Ben Reilly is a crucial part of that. Just need a little change here and there.
Another alternative would be a Gotham Knights scenario where Peter retired and we would have Ben, Kaine Miles and the whole Spider-family trying to fill his shoes.
If one more day never happened
That ain't devil-based retconning but it is still telling people they've been reading a fake Peter for 20 years
The acceptable choice would be to put their baby on the Franklin schedule and just have that be the status quo
Ben could have still been an alternate for people who want swinging single stories
Would people have been more open to Ben taking over if they didn't pull the bullshit about Peter being the clone
Yes
And the 90s has no shortage of spinoff characters, if they had just taken, say Web of Spider-man and made it a Scarlet Spider book and he's biking around
I mean frick, 1994 that book would have sold gangbusters
That's basically what they did for a while anyway. Peter had Amazing and Spectacular while Ben (as Scarlet Spider) took over Web of and Adjectiveless
It worked for thor and superman
If they hadn't done that, Ben could absolutely have worked as a short-term replacement, but one way or another Peter would have been back within less than 2 years.
Ben would likely have survived, gone back to his Scarlet Spider identity and got his own book when it was all over, he'd probably be doing a lot better than he is now.
Ben being Mayday's mentor is objectively the best solution.
That would be the end goal but with Peter also mentoring her
Why did May choose Ben’s costume instead of her father’s suit anyways?
Because Ben was kill
Because it was the one she found
Because the fricking morons thought Ben Spidey would last
But Spider-Girl first appeared after Ben was dead and buried
The larger spider complements the female form better
Didn't peter burn the original spider suit so she had to grave rob Ben's?
It was her uncle Ben
It's rather concerning how low IQ Spider-Man readers can be that they often miss that.
Why does mayday look like chat? Was MJ cucked or something?
how can MJ be cucked if she's the one GIVING BIRTH to Mayday
>*le Mysterio enters*
Kaine was the uncle she knew and had a relationship with and saved her when she was a baby.
Ben Reilly wasn't "her uncle Ben"
So if a family member dies before you meet them they don't exist?
No but i don't really care about honouring the legacy of of a dead uncle I never knew, when I have a living uncle who I own my life to with a sick ass costume.
If you think about it though, Kaine only went on to do that because of the effect Ben had on his life. Kaine would want it this way
Yost's Scarlet Spider is the perfect series that fill the gaps between Clone Saga Kaine and Mayday's edgy but cool uncle Kaine
It saddens me greatly knowing that Yost wants to write more Kaine and Marvel just isn't interested.
At least we still have JMD minis to look forward to
According to internal sources (Stegman), Yost's Hollywood status makes him too expensive for Marvel to spend on a character like Kaine.
>they won't spend the money on Kaine
>but they will spend it on Abrhams' nepotism project
Spider-Girl #44 - Peter tells Mayday about her Uncle Ben and the Clone Saga.
Fricking Normie ruins everything
I mean she ends up wearing it anyway at the end of first Spider-Verse event when she returns home.
And it looked terrible on her and she ended up getting one of her own only for that one to vanish by Spider-Geddon
It’s a supremely better suit for a female
So basically, Ben is a cross dressing homosexual?
It’s better if she never gets to meet him. That way she has a dead Uncle Ben too.
It would actually leave an impact if she got to know him before he died. Otherwise, he’s a stranger.
i want to see kaine be her mentor. it would be a kino disaster for him to be only one available to guide her to the standards set by peter and ben when he's still trying to reach those himself. also it would be cute if aracely acted like her big sis
Peter could have continued heroics while raising May
Spider-man comics would be in a better state it Quesada hadn't put his personal issues on the character, Slott hadn't been allowed to squat on him for a decade writing schlock, and Bendis had been forced to make Miles different from Peter instead of copying damn near everything... well, ok, that last one would make Miles better, not Peter.
It seems the only way to give peter a family is to bench him as Spider-Man or have someone be the spider-man. Well, that’s how everyone else writes it which is mind boggling of a concept.
I mean, they have a pregnant spider-woman in the spider-verse movie (I don't know what she gets up to, I didn't watch it), Jessica Drew did heroics while pregnant, but Pete web-swinging and raising a kid is going too far?
Marvel's weird.
Imagine your wacky grandpa as spiderman
It'd sell millions
You'd think that with his humor being considered cornball in-universe, it'd be a natural transition for him to be making dad jokes all the time to his kids just to mess with them.
>Swings onto the scene
>Webs up the minorities
>Swings away, no questions asked
The most problematic Spider-man!
>Webs up the minorities
I didn't know that Rami would guest write.
>Rami would guest write.
>Spider-Gramps webs up two black men together
>Lands next to them and forces the men's lips together
>"Haha, what are you gays doing? Is this that prison-gay thing? You gonna cuddle afterwards?"
>Spider-gramps then plants come cocaine on them and calls the cops.
You mean spider-man nior?
Maybe, but Peter reconsidering his dangerous profession because he has an infant to take care of makes sense.
But Pete wouldn't let other children become orphans through his inaction.
He might go through an arc of being much angrier with villains as his fatherhood spikes his protective instinct
I mean they probably wouldn't be worse.
No. Ben sucks.
Nah Ben is based
Nah. He's a symbol of what was wrong with the 90s- bigger spider, bigger webshooters is better, right? At the same time they gave him improved webshooters they dumbed him down into a fricking Bon Jovi homage, a hard luck hero who is fine except he's clearly not Peter Parker. Meanwhile, the story is telling us that Johnny who works on the docks is actually the real Peter and that the character with continuity who acts like Peter and Spider-Man are fake.
It's the dumbest storytelling decision in Marvel Comics history, and we're right to revile it, and Ben.
>It's the dumbest storytelling decision in Marvel Comics history
Is it, when shit like OMD exists? Spider-Man editorial history since the 90s has been plagued with the dumbest shit in Marvel Comics history.
>the story is telling us that Johnny who works on the docks is actually the real Peter and that the character with continuity who acts like Peter and Spider-Man are fake
I don't think anyone will defend that shitty plot point but at the end of the day it was irrelevant anyway. A needless twist that effected nothing and certainly doesn't diminish Ben as a character or his appeal.
>It's the dumbest storytelling decision in Marvel Comics history,
Was the clone retcon dumb? Sure. Is it the dumbest thing to happen at Marvel? Not even fricking close.
>we're right to revile it, and Ben
Who is we? Plenty of people liked Ben even after the Clone Saga and wanted him back
>Who is we
Most fans, writers. Fricking Dan Jurgens wrote a raft of ben issues, and he would say he feels like he never wrote spider-man.
And yes, Clone Saga is worse than OMD. You just didn't have the internet to echo your rage and poor reading skills back at you.
I dunno, I find the devil taking Peter's marriage away to do a reset was more moronic than clone saga even when it was forced drama, OMD was worse.
No. OMD was a shitty rip off of an infinitely better Flash storyline.
OMD is worse than Clone Saga. Clone Saga isn’t even in the top 5 bad spider-man stories anymore
You will never be a fan, poser.
The dumbest fricking thing to come out of a dumb person's fricking mouth, or fingers, whatever the case may be. Do you think I hopped into this thread of spider-minutia because I'm secretly a Batman Fan?
Ben fans are fricking moronic, and you prove it every time you open your idiot mouths.
>we're right to revile it, and Ben
I was a reader back then and I loved Ben
YES! Seriously, it worked for DC with Barry Allen and Wally West until Dan DiDio so why not let Ben take the reigns? Or at the very least change the dynamic with Peter balancing raising a kid and being Spider-Man
Sure, but honestly you wouldn't even need to go that far.
Amazing Spiderman always had the benefit of being a comic and thus able to take it's place as slow as it needs to. A story that took 3 years to finish could be only a couple months. Peter didn't graduate from college until like 1980 (or late 70's) which was around like a bit over a decade after he graduated highschool in the comic proper.
Spiderman could still grow and develop while taking their sweet time milking these changes. They could still continue having Pete doing classic Spidey adventures and have a kid for a good 20-50 years before considering having him be retired.
That and none of the changes need to be immediate either. Being a dad doesn't eliminate the need to find a good safe home. Being a dad doesn't eliminate the need to find a stable job. Being a dad doesn't eliminate having to split responsibility between spending time with family and with doing the civic duty. If anything, it'd be far easier to recycle storylines by having Peter have to factor in his family and friends into big life changing decisions and make the impact of his crossover adventures even bigger now that he has someone important to get back to that isn't just Aunt May.
You know what? Frick it, Give Ben a kid.Let Peter stay frozen in time because editorial can't have anything done to canon since the end of the 90's.
Ben Reilly and Janine haviong a baby, living together with Kaine and dealing with the fate of being chosen as the champions of Hummingbird but also having to raise this teenage girl superhero.
Peter can be the awkward uncle that shows up every once in a while.
They tried that, sales dropped because of the clone saga. No one liked the idea of a clone taking up the mantel of spidey or as Peter with MJ.
>sales dropped because of the clone saga
But the opposite happened
And when sales dropped sales were dropping all across the board. It was the Comic Industry that was crashing not Spider-Man and certainly not because of Ben.
Only if
>Peter was still Spider-Man, but only helped Ben very occasionally with plots out of his league
>The story pivots to Mayday being the main hero after a reasonable period, and middle age Peter teaches her
>Ben gets his own spinoff for his own adventures and can still turn up in the main book
speak for yourself,
we peterbros are doing just fine.
Something about the way those speech bubbles look ontop of that art really bugs me
Either too small or tok big. It doesn't help the writing is atrocious and the constant need to break the dialogue just to give that illusion of a REAL conversation which doesn't work anyways.
Well, at least he's happy.
dodsonkino
why is parker a fricking HAPA? he has it rough as he already is
The next issue comes out today right? Is it so bad that no one wants to storytime it?
More like no one has rips
>retire
Why are people obsessed with Peter "retiring?" Batman has upwards of 10 successors and he's still Batman who exists concurrently with all the successors.
They want to push Miles, I'd guess.
Not like it'd be Ben or Kaine taking over.
>Batman has upwards of 10 successors and he's still Batman who exists concurrently with all the successors.
Which is equally moronic
Not a fair comparison. All those so called successors are actually DOING THAY OWN THANG. Not playing cosplay. They're LITERALLY out there doing superhero shit not LITERALLY crying and gerting depressed about people not seeing them as anything other than a "recoloured" batman.
Well, the only one who complains and mopes is miles. Everyone else is fine with their roles
That's the point. What other spider is allowed the spider manlet and spotlight other than miles?. It's not like spider-gwen is anything but a frickin troony blacked meme now. Or that 99 is gonna become an butthole villain thanks to his portrayal from now on. Ben a sidelined dumb goon. It's not like you can stand there and actually tell me with a straight face that marvel will ever consider letting scarlet Spiders carrying the tourch now that miles is there.
Every batman successor has a chance to take his place. and they bring something new to the table not just rehashed ideas.
Can you say the same about spider-man?.
People don't view the robins being able to replace Bruce as batman. Whereas they are trying to usher in miles as the spider-man what with the marvel universe kissing his ass while dissing peter constantly.
It's insane the Life Story literally had Peter raise children only for it to end with Miles becoming the new Spider-Man
Miles does more heroics than Peter.
Oh yes. I loved it when the little nigglet rehashed spider-man storyline #1482
homie shut the frick up...if I didn't know any better I'd think miles was the gwenpool to Pete's wade
Holy frick so fricking mindbroken by Morales
He's still right, however.
None of Batman's proteges are calling themselves Batman while he's active.
Batman doesn't have a life outside of Batman. A very common recurring corny as hell thing people say about Batman is "Bruce is the mask, Batman is the person".
Spiderman's whole thing on the otherhand is his life/work balance. Peter is "not a mask". Peter is Peter. Peter has other shit to deal with on top of saving everyone. Turning Spiderman more into a family busniess type deal makes more sense in that regard.
I’m not saying it should happen, I’m saying that of the two things marvel tried to make spider-man young again (this and OMD/BND) that this is the better outcome
Anyone who believes this was ever going to happen is totally fricking insane. I mean it - you have lost your grasp on reality. Not knocking anyone's character or fandom...just their perception of the world around them and their ability to asses basic facts about the universe.
Read Life Story.
Nah
Honestly thought this did the best version of Miles taking over if that had to happen: Peter goes out like a champ saving the planet after a long successful life and getting to spend many years with his family, and it's even implied Miles just uses the original suit as a tribute to him. Mayday's still around too (even if they give her a different name) but she can't be Spider-Man for the obvious reason
I did, and it's just ok.
its a biopic of Spiderman
>barely touches on large events, and doesn't explain much about them
>jump cuts character development
>the overarching narrative barely includes spiderman
it's written to remind you of spiderman stories, and can't stand on its own merit.
They don't even outright state what happens to clone Gwen in the main story, or why she and Ben separated.
What are the political implications of the fact there have only been two superior variants on the OG Spiderman design and both belong to Ben?
Did bendis hijack the big eyes idea from Ben or black suit ?.
Idk man those leg and belt accessories kill it for me.
Huge lenses were a McFarlane thing that spread.
Spider-Ben was Bagley's, Scarlet Spider was Tom Lyle's.
1/3
2/3
Man, that's depressing.
3/3
No, that's Spidercide.
You're a Ben guy anon?. What do you think what this anon has to say?.
Sounds pretty clear to me, English not your first language?
My bad. Honest mistake.
Here.
I'm no doctor, but it sounds terminal.
Oops. Wrong anon. My bad. I MEANT this dude.
nta but Ben's first arc as Spider-Man had him fighting a new villian, Armada. Plus Carolyn Trainer started off as one of his villains. He even got his own supporting cast at the daily grind
The coffee shop. Right?. was it good?.
I liked it. It's not as fleshed out as the Daily Bugle or anything like that but it was good.
I wouldn’t say they are superior to the red and blues or the black suit but they’re both easily top 5
The only conclusion to be drawn here is that Mark Bagley is good at costume design.
nope, peter parker i think is just fine the way he is
That was the right way to go, yes.
Have Ben and Kaine met Teresa yet.
No, and I'm not sure if Teresa has even shown up since Spencer's run ended.
Peter shouldn’t be married, or even be a non-virgin.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Ditko
>As far as it is known, he never married and had no surviving children at the time of his death.[114][121]
>no steve ditko jr. timeline
why even live at this point?
why do so many people close to peter have the same names? His clone is named ben, both his alt universe daughters have may in their name, his son is "benjy", his mother was named mary..wtf
Mary is just a coincidence, Ben Reilly named himself after Uncle Ben, Mayday is named after Aunt May, Annie May is named after both Aunt Anna and Aunt May, Benjy is named after Uncle Ben and/or Ben Reilly
Are you the same Bengay from the other day, are you still going on about this.
No I don't accept that.
In all likelihood if they went this route, Mayday would have just ended up in Spider-Gwen's position with respect to Miles and his weird midway position between Slott's cuck fetish and his black wish fulfilment. Be happy she's an assumed endgame and not being directly written by modern Marvel.
>Be happy she's an assumed endgame and not being directly written by modern Marvel
It's depressing knowing that Frenz knows he'll never get to work on Mayday again
It is a miracle that they haven’t found a way to bring back and frick up Mayday given how heavy they are leaning into Spider spin offs. She seems like one of the only variants that are actually liked.
If she does get a reboot it will frick suck most likely.
I mean Slott already kind of fricked her up in Spider-Verse. The Unlimited comic was inoffensive enough at least
I will concede on that but a reboot now would probably kill the character and she isn’t exactly a relevant character to begin with
I fully expect them to do some new mini where it's a new Mayday based off the movie version. Alternatively we get more RYV set before Annie became Spiderling
In theory I wouldn’t mind since despite being a very small part of the movie the Peter B Parker and Mayday parts were by far my favorite parts of the movie. I don’t even hate Miles or Gwen but seeing Peter move past the bachelor bubble in a major production was great to me. It obviously has to do with my attachment to both characters but man I was way more invested in Peter then our leads because it felt new to me despite it not really being new. I just don’t like modern Marvel Comics so I don’t want them rebooting something I actually like that managed to almost exist in a bubble until the Spiderverse comics and movies
Nta but under Scott and the current editorial staff all ideas are bad ideas
>May gets a living hero/legend to look up to.
>Instantly the best love interest she's ever had and one that Parker cucks won't covet.
>Tethers the 2 most prominent Spider families together.
>Unique story dynamics for literally ever character involved.
>Natural Progression for Miles while still allowing Peter to remain relevant.
When is this supposed to sound like a bad idea?
>May gets a living hero/legend to look up to.
Her dad?
>Instantly the best love interest she's ever had and one that Parker cucks won't covet.
??
>Tethers the 2 most prominent Spider families together.
I don't see how Miguel comes into this
>Unique story dynamics for literally ever character involved.
???
>Natural Progression for Miles while still allowing Peter to remain relevant.
How is him teaching the real Spider-Man's daughter natural progression for anyone?
Well past his prime, literally a shadow of his former self physically.
From Kamala, to Spider-Gwen, to Kate Bishop and Beyond
Miguel isn't touching Morales anytime soon.
Creating genuine, understandable tension between Miles and Peter without it be based off a plot convenient miscommunication? You just need more imagination than an avocado to grasp the bottomless well of narrative potential.
She might actually get a worthwhile story besides her Origin.
Can miles get a worthwhile story beyond being the reason Peter dies young, never having a family?
Anon, I'm sorry to say that you are a dumb person.
None of the things you say follow logically from the characters. Reading your ideas it's like reading fujo fanfiction.
>Well past his prime, literally a shadow of his former self physically.
And? That just makes for a better mentor dynamic. Without it she's a sidekick.
>From Kamala, to Spider-Gwen, to Kate Bishop and Beyond
What does this have to do with Mayday?
>Miguel isn't touching Morales anytime soon.
Miguel is more important than Miles, objectively.
>Creating genuine, understandable tension between Miles and Peter without it be based off a plot convenient miscommunication
How? Is this based on your fanfiction where he's getting with Mayday? None of this sounds like good writing and it feels like Miles is just being shoehorned in for no reason.
>She might actually get a worthwhile story besides her Origin
That's a pretty big rock to be throwing in your glass house there, Milesgay
> Well past his prime, literally a shadow of his former self physically.
Why would this matter. This was literally how he was in her comic and she still looked up to him because he was Spider-Man one of the greatest heroes ever. In fact that was part of the point, since Peter was missing his leg he couldn’t be Spider-Man (he rejected a robo spider leg) so he has to count on Mayday since the time he tried to be Spider-Man again it went pretty bad but he doesn’t want to because he doesn’t want his daughter to go through the hardships he went through (while also ignoring the good that came with it) because he is afraid of both her being hurt and just letting go.
Maybe as a love interest or character that pops up now and then but the core of Spider-Girl was the relationship between Peter and Mayday and her struggles to live up to the person he was.
Because Kaine and Peter fulfilled literally every role she needed from mentor shit. Plus inserting Miles into the dynamic would be awkard as frick since Spider-Girl is basically a throwback for M2 and the city lost Spider-Man a long while ago. Having Miles be active ruins it and basically turns things into "why does May even need to active as Spider-Girl if Miles is around" also making him a love interest is weird given she's 16 and he'd be like 25 to 35.
Has anyone done more damage to Marvel as a whole than Bendis?
Joe Quesada
What did Joey Q ruin besides Spider-Man?
>What did Joey Q ruin besides the only redeemable thing about Marvel?
Sometimes I wonder if Milesgays are necessarily mentally ill.
I think it’s just the one guy
