They have to do this to preclude a European mythos from materializing in the form of folklore. It would help solidify a very large group of people that can be referred to as "Northern temperate man," previously the culturally distinct European tribes. Because if wasn't branded using an established, loved, IP, it would never get made--no one would have given it a chance. Season 1 was decent because it stuck reasonably close to the source material. Now that you've seen seasons 2 and 3, do you think these clowns would have produced something original that wouldn't be abandoned by viewers after just a couple of episodes? Many such cases.

I thought seasons 1 and 2 were pretty good. Considered the second to be better, although I fastforwarded some in both.
Season 3 was completely unwatchable. I started fastworwarding already in the first episode. Probably fastforwarded 80% av episodes 2,3 and then gave up after a few minutes in ep 4.
Everything in the season just seemed pointless and tacked on for no reason. Nothing was leading anywhere.

The point of an adaption is to reach an audience who wouldn't otherwise consume the original media but the people doing the adapting feel an urge to put their twist or add shit in the name of cultural familiarity.
Most of the time it's not necessary.
But that's exactly what they did chapter for chapter in Game of Thrones (at least the first few seasons) as well as Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. Granted, Jackson did make some diversions such as Saruman's death, leaving out Tom Bombadil and the reckoning of the Shire. But at least they were objectively GOOD MOVIES.
I feel so bad for Cavill, a man that pined so fricking hard for the role. He read the books, beat Witcher 3 TWICE and is obviously a huge nerd and super passionate about the Witcher lore. And to see it all crash and burn around him must be soul crushing to him.
The writers simply don't want to actually make a good series with the books at its basis. Maybe they're arrogant and think they can do better, maybe they're lazy, maybe they're incompetent and they still have their jobs for unexplained reasons, maybe they want to use the name of a popular fantasy universe to pass a message, take your pick.
All in all, the show sucks. The only word I can use to describe this season so far is "bizarre". Alot of explanation by the characters, the whole Redania plot is a joke, Rience is a joke, Francesca and Filevandrel are a joke, Cahir and Emhyr have been butchered, Vilgefortz is about to be announced as the Big Bad Guy out of nowhere, with minimal setup. What a waste of time. I believe I'm self aware enough to say that I'm in some way obsessed. I can't give myself a favor and stop watching this mess.
I don't want to make that a primary objection of mine with the show because I don't want gays to focus on that part of my critic in order to avoid about the actual plot and character complaints I have. People would use my complaints about the overwhelming amount of Africans and Asians in what's supposed to be an Eastern-European based universe to discredit me.
I couldn't care less about being "downvoted". When I'm talking about a book, or a movie, or a show, I want to have meaningful conversations about them. I can argue about politics with people I actually know will have some insight. I thought seasons 1 and 2 were pretty good. Considered the second to be better, although I fastforwarded some in both.
Season 3 was completely unwatchable. I started fastworwarding already in the first episode. Probably fastforwarded 80% av episodes 2,3 and then gave up after a few minutes in ep 4.
Everything in the season just seemed pointless and tacked on for no reason. Nothing was leading anywhere.

The point of an adaption is to reach an audience who wouldn't otherwise consume the original media but the people doing the adapting feel an urge to put their twist or add shit in the name of cultural familiarity.
Most of the time it's not necessary.
But that's exactly what they did chapter for chapter in Game of Thrones (at least the first few seasons) as well as Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. Granted, Jackson did make some diversions such as Saruman's death, leaving out Tom Bombadil and the reckoning of the Shire. But at least they were objectively GOOD MOVIES.
I feel so bad for Cavill, a man that pined so fricking hard for the role. He read the books, beat Witcher 3 TWICE and is obviously a huge nerd and super passionate about the Witcher lore. And to see it all crash and burn around him must be soul crushing to him.

Maybe they're arrogant and think they can do better, maybe they're lazy, maybe they're incompetent and they still have their jobs for unexplained reasons, maybe they want to use the name of a popular fantasy universe to pass a message, take your pick.
All in all, the show sucks. The only word I can use to describe this season so far is "bizarre". Alot of explanation by the characters, the whole Redania plot is a joke, Rience is a joke, Francesca and Filevandrel are a joke, Cahir and Emhyr have been butchered, Vilgefortz is about to be announced as the Big Bad Guy out of nowhere, with minimal setup. What a waste of time. I believe I'm self aware enough to say that I'm in some way obsessed. I can't give myself a favor and stop watching this mess.
