the problem with anime is that it has adapted a kind of low-brow 20th century european tragic writing where the tragic circumstances are very unplausibly and forcefully portrayed as inevitable to avoid portraying their mary-sue characters failures since they know their audience draws the line at what is palpable in fiction at personal failure and not at deaths of loved ones/personal attachments. this is because it meshes well with the very female and submissive nature of japans buddhist religion.
