There's more holes in her narrative than in a slice of swiss cheese. Apparently some sinners go to hell and some who commit "serious" sins are just permanently erased, but then there's this whole deal of hell being overcrowded and people who didn't commit these sins being erased anyway? It makes zero sense even conceptually, I'm wondering how she is going to make it into a finished product.
viv is just taking something that would have lead to some interesting rightfully dark storylines that a topic and setting like HELL deserves and removes all of its actual teeth. making it safe and cutsy which takes away any decent drama which just makes everything boring and bland.
Playing devil's advocate, but I can imagine she made that play for marketability above everything else (there's no way in hell even a hipster-run company like A24 would have touched it unless it was marketable for teens). The only issue is how badly the premise is played with, even comedy-wise. You have this massive cast of characters who could be played for their individual sins as flaws, but then all of them are just either gay or comedically evil to the point of it being a joke. There's no room for the show to grow beyond its mediocre cast of pseudo-villains.
This, Viv really has shown with Helluva she can make interesting characters from the jump, but then the story around them changes to ignore their flaws instead of them actually growing out of them.
Now a good writer with Hazbin could still do great things thanks to how the show is supposed to be about redemption. Even the characters even if they aren't super twisted and evil they could still serve as common character flaws taken to the extreme, such as being narcissistic, having poor impulse control, etc. As long as the character's growth is handled well, there's not really an issue. But since we know Viv doesn't let other characters call her favorites out on their shit we won't see this. Angel Dust isn't going to have this revelation that his own actions were the primary cause of why he's so miserable, the show will pin everything on Valentino.

Not sure what you mean about that, but who gets perma-killed in the purge is decided by the angels/exterminators, not by demons/Lucifer. Apparently demons/Sinners can even only die via angelic weapons, not by their own violence, they either respawn or slowly recover even if blown to bits.
There's literal serial killers, rapists and etc in this series so there's no such thing as "serious sin is insta-erased".
Hell is crowded because Sinners are only allowed on the very first circle of Hell, for some reason that will be revealed eventually.
Yes there's tons of narrative holes, but this isn't one to me. Lucifer keeps sinners on the first circle, they get too crowded, then he either allows or can't control the descent of exterminators every New Years.
I think I like the villains more because they do evil things and own it. as opposed to the protags who do similarly evil things then act sad and cry so you will feel bad for them
