Think she said this in the beginning before A24 was announced to be exempted by agreeing to the strike’s terms, but chances are she’s sticking to her guns to this excuse if there’s any actual delays.

i can explain this one. Waaaaaay back in the early 90's some Wall Street frick said that you could make more money prospecting comics than betting on the stock market. Just go to the comic shop every week and buy anything that's issue #1 and wait to see which one shoots up in value.

The publishers started shipping eight variant covers of every #1 and people would buy one of each just in case the glow-in-the-dark-scracth-n-sniff cover turned out to be more of a collector's item than the double-gatefold-die-cut-gold-foil-embossed cover. And then some time later everyone realized that everybody AND their kid brother had a copy of Spawn #1 and it would never be worth anything because it wasn't rare.
Basically that "hype dies down after one chapter" happens because of people who buy comics as an investment, which isn't something people do with cartoons.

That's the question, ultimately. Because like you say, it defies explanation as to why, if the show is complete and there's no issue, it hasn't it been released yet? There's been no official word on it being delayed and its release date pushed back beyond the initial "Summer 2023" window, nor has it been said it's been cancelled at all. And yet, there's also been no trailer, no major advertising campaign, no real marketing or promotion performed by any of the cast or crew up until this point. If it's been delayed, A24 would WANT people to know because why the hell wouldn't you give your audience the new date for when the show releases? And if it truly HAS been cancelled, then where's the announcement for that?
I suspect we might get something close to a revelation as we pass the deadline for HH's release in these coming days, but even then that's not certainty considering how much of an enigma this show's promotion has been like so far.

with total silence, such speculation can be dismissed as unfounded speculation; if viv, a24 or somebody official gives some info, even if small or incomplete, then it will give speculators and gossip mongers actual ammo where they can hang their rumors. it basically makes it harder to dismiss as unfounded.

The big issue is we haven't got anything the past two months, it wasn't like what we were previously getting was major info, we still don't have a cast list, we still don't know how many episodes there are, we don't know where the show will actually air, and we don't even have a damn teaser trailer.
What we've been getting for past two years have been character redesigns, an air date of Summer 2023 that it's definitely not making, and some random GIFs and pictures, they were doing the bare minimum above radio silence before they went completely silent.
The strikes apparently have no end in sight, so Viv can keep using that excuse well into 2024.

Studios in general have just been treating cartoons really shitty lately, best example I can think of fitting the case of Helluva would be Pantheon's finished Season 2 still being delayed after AMC gave up on the show, or CN seemingly delaying the release of Summer Camp Island's final season by over a year AFTER already releasing a trailer, poster, and a date and then going back on their word. Both these things just happened out of the blue with no announcement or the studio commenting on it, in the case of Summer Camp Island even the creator was baffled because CN never told her anything. Whatever happens to Hazbin is really up in the air honestly

this is why studios should return to the hannah-barbera model of easy-to-animate easy-to-market cartoons to make bank; leaving the merchandizing model to chase fart-sniffing auteurs and their niche cartoons that spawn endless Youtube essays but watched in real time by 5 people was probably terrible for studio finances.

I've heard it's because the studio got cold feet over a reliable audience and have no clue where to distribute it to maximize profit. A bit tinfoil-y here but I don't think the subject matter is what's worrying them but perhaps they want a more wider general type than just Viv fans since it seems like Helluva has shown how casual watchers shat on it.
I mean, HB and HH are fricking terrible properties as far as marketability goes. Its cutesy tween drama dressed up in an edgy artstyle. You can’t market it to teenagers because its too gorey with too much cursing, and adults aren’t going to give a shit because its too immature in how it handles its subject matter.
The closest I can think of where it MIGHT find a wide audience is Adult Swim and thats a big ass “maybe”. A24 just doesn’t want to lose any more money on this than theyve already spent and nobody seems to want to pay whatever price theyre asking for such a risky property with no clear audience besides a frothing online one thats still niche.
At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if HH becomes a tax write-off.

I know Rowling's contract with WB and Universal says "owling, along with Warner Bros., must approve of every aspect of Universal’s use of the license, including, but not limited to any artwork, design, logo, slogan, video element, audio element or other item containing an element of the Licensed Property" but that's for theme parks.
You basically can’t get Hollywood to invest in something and keep your rights to it these days. It’s the deal with the devil. On the one hand, your project gets made and it’s backed by the deep deep pockets of the Hollywood machine. On the other, it’s now the property of the network, subject to executive meddling, and if you get booted from the show they can either never do anything for it again, or endlessly reboot it/spin it off onto “your idea, but now the characters are babies in space”. You, in the other hand, have no rights to use those characters or premise ever again.
On the other hand, you don’t have to beg and plead the internet to donate a few dollars to your indiegogo campaign every fricking time you want to make something so there’s that.
I'm not at all informative on this, but I believe Rowling was super lucky enough to keep most of the rights because nobody thought her shit would turn into a franchise until it happened. Then publishers made a stipulation about owning some of the rights or something after that.
The way I've heard in order to keep the rights of your property is to publish it as like a graphic novel or something, then license out the media so you can keep the copyright. I think the Diary of a Wimpy Kid (kid's books) creator and the creator of Helga (graphic novel) did something like I said.
Vivziepop in her case was never gonna make HH on her own and only made the pilot for her sales pitch. When you've only got that, you have no way to negotiate keeping the rights unless you're extremely lucky like that Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy guy. That and these days studios probably won't bother negotiating with you over licensing, it's there way or frick off.

People lose their rights because they either naively or willingly sign them away. The real profit in entertainment is the dividends made from all the various sales of the property whether it be someone paying for broadcast rights or paying to slap a logo on a mug for $20. Creators get fricked because half of them are looking for an easy big paycheck and dont read the fine print and production companies/distribution are more than happy to throw a lump payment at someone for easier management.

Rowling and Universal are a sort of unique happening however. Disney had previously tried to acquire the theme park rights to Potter but Rowling would’ve basically had zero input and she despised that. Universal later came along and offered her a 50/50 creative partnership because they absolutely wanted in on that goldmine and IIRC had built up a pretty good working relationship with Rowling to get it going.
The ONLY reason that was offered to Rowling was because HP was already a mega hit and ROI was a sure thing. Unless anon writes an international best seller that tops lists for literal decades, ain’t no studio is going to offer that sort of deal. Your options are to sell the rights to your show and get it made, or walk and either try to scrap it out with crowdfund campaigns, or let the dream die.
Everyone signing contracts with big studios has both a lawyer and an agent advocating on their behalf. It has nothing to do with not reading contracts.

People don’t sign the rights to their show away because they can’t read the legalese. Nobody signs those contracts without a lawyer or agent consulting. The deal is either you sign your rights over or they don’t make it. There’s no negotiating on that. Antonucci got lucky but it hasn’t been done since.

In the pilot he said he needed a politician killed so it made sense why he allowed Blitz to use the book.
In the next episodes he uses IMP as his personal bodyguards and even asks for the book back for the festival. Really contradicting or at least not showing off his most important motivation for why he allows the book to be stolen.
They really castrated Stolas.
Stolas would be better if he was a side character that the main cast didn't like but had to occasionally deal with to keep their business running. I'm fine with him developing feelings for Blitzo as long as they aren't mutual, and especially as long as it doesn't become the focus of the show.

I don't feel bad for Viv, or the writers like Adam who got on board thanks to nepotism, but for the voice actors, the animators, artists, etc. it must suck ass to help make a full season of a show and it amounting to literally nothing and never seeing the light of day. Exactly, and one thing Viv and Adam have done to HB S2 is not letting the characters have arcs, HB S1 was clearly building up to this but it's like all the development happened offscreen between 1 and 2 so only the first part of many arcs were actually done. It's fine if Angel's more buttholeish and self-destructive tendencies are downplayed or even outright removed, but that happening should be his character arc and not be the case right from the start.

Let's assume something about Hazbin is special so the strikes still affect it even though A24 has apparently been exempt from the strike for a while now.
Let's also assume they got some big name talent for the voice cast, big enough to where delaying the finished series would be worth it when those actors have to promote the show. Why would A24 (and by extension Viv because of the NDA) hide the fact a delay is in order and just come clean? Dune 2 was recently announced to be moved from November to March partly thanks to this reason (The massive flops this year has seen probably spooked them as well), they don't need to give a new release window, just read the room and say it's one of the many things that's getting hit with a delay right now, A24 is usually pretty damn good when it comes to PR, but this whole thing has been a trainwreck.
