It feels like this show wants to be both absurd and profound. Like it wants to both make it's depictions of serious topics both funny and meaningful, but sadly... The writing is just not up to par to make it work on a good level. One thing that DOES make it work is something like Disco Elysium for instance and this REALLY is not even close to the writing quality of that game.

Only thing I heard was that episode 5 is somewhat good, but overall that from what it was it is very unfocused and it's writing overall needs a lot of work. And what I say also applies to HB which has two SEASONS. Viv tries to tackle serious matters from both absurd and serious standpoint, but she really lacks the chops to pull this kind of thing off. What she should do is stick with one and focus on that because she doesn't know how to balance both absurd and serious like Disco Elysium does where we can get absurd shit with how portrayed is alcohol abuse, child abuse, prostitution, homosexuality and racism, but then you also get hit with far more serious depiction of those when it counts and neither feel out of place because each one from the very start is used when it should be. As far as I saw from watching HB and watching what I watched from HH and what I heard from reviews and also spoilers with Roo. Viv is not the kind of writer to tackle those topics like that even if she tries really hard to do so.
I think it's like this. Viv was in her late teens early 20s when most tumblr zoomers were like 14-16. She's not actually from that particular crowd. She's from the era of teens who grew up on Twilight and other extremely sexualized YA romance content in the late 2000s before Hunger Games changed the YA game. I'm willing to bet if we found Vivzie's old fanfiction or art accounts, we'd find tons upon tons of BDSM stuff because that was just the style of that crowd, their expectations for relationships involve some kind of serious power dynamic between the couple

And maybe after that when Vox tries to dissuade him from attacking the hotels he starts to caress Vox himself, tells him how much he "loves him" and "would be sad if Vox made Val hurt him" and then he presses more on his screen face, making small cracks in it.
That would establish Val as a physical powerhouse with A LOT of charisma and how his manipulation works. Full on gaslighting of his lovers about how much he loves them and doesn't want them to "make him hurt them". Would make sense then why Angel would even think of going back to him. Val's influence still hanging over him, filling him with the feeling that HE is to blame for his plights and abuse in Hell. Which partially could be true because he had to go there for something.
Could also be established that Val actively abuses other Vs and is overall main antagonist of Season 1 that could focus on redeeming JUST Angel Dust, showing how hard it is and what it takes before doing it to several ones in later seasons where other 2 Vs could be more relevant after they dealt with Val.

Not to mention how seamlessly it can jump from comedic to serious. Like with Harry's skills. Authority is a lot of the time one of the most hilariously bad skills because of advices it gives you, but you FEEL that weight because of that when you are on the phone and he BEGS you to stop calling. Or how it is treated when you punch Cuno which is pretty comedic in a dark way against when you see his house and his father and tells you about "Cuno window" and he is about to break down for a moment. Or the quest with Working Class woman with how funny it starts and how it... ends. It is quite incredible how well that game juggles it's tone all the time and it NEVER feels out of place.
That is also why it is not noticeable to me when HB and HH try to do something like this. Mix comedy and drama to talk about serious topics which is very hard thing to pull off.

Yeah, I like that first song but it sounds too much like people singing a normal conversation. It's not like Vox and Alastor's duet where they're singing about an idea, their relative influence/power/relevance, than any specific details. The Velvette song would probably better if it had fewer lines rooting it to a particular time and place. It spends some time ramping up with a direct response to something that was just said, and lingers on the specific event of the angel's death toward the end. It does a good job showcasing the characters' respective attitudes to their roles as overlords, it's just in my opinion a little too focused on a singular event rather than the themes or attitudes the characters have around that event. The first two episodes do that well.

When it comes to adult animation, the average person with a full time job and an active social life mostly just wants a show that lets them enjoy themselves while they sit down for a nice break from the hustle and bustle of life, whether or not Vivzie passes that test is up for debate but Mr.Pickles is a good test imo. When I was in college, a lot of the people I hung out with liked it based on the fact it was a good show to grab a beer and just laugh at the violent antics. Rick and Morty was huge with stoners. Vivzie's biggest potential hurdle is ironically that Hazbin might not edgy enough for normies who prefer their edgy shows to be a barrage of detached jokes

Alright, look at Rick And Morty, right? Is there character drama centered around the family dysfunction and other factors? Yes. But the show is also a barrage of jokes that you can enjoy independent of that, it's full of whacky concepts and edgy humor.
Same with something like Archer, even the dialogue while characters develop are humorous.
Viv doesn't balance as well in this regard. I'm not saying the show won't be popular, but it's a show that's gonna have it's audience rather than break mainstream super well. Maybe reach Bojack levels at most unless it takes off with teenagers.
Like, even when Rick and Morty did an uncomfortable molestation scene, it was balanced by the absurdity of the rapist in question being a giant jelly bean, the show took this seriously, yet still made fun of the part where he was a giant jellybean.
With shows like these, I could honestly see Helluva's pilot version having the potential for mainstream success because it had that kind of balance where the characters demonstrated their personal relationships while also murdering a kid for being annoying in the same scene. Edgy adult animated shows typically either need that level of balance or need to stay away from long character arcs and plot threads.

The average person isn't going into an animated comedy series to see expansive plots and deep character development.
They want something they can half-watch while scrolling through their phone after work, in varying states of sobriety.
Due to this, you must create humor which can appeal to the fractured attention of the viewer.
Establishing a joke based on prior knowledge of events in the show/episode can have good payoff, but if that person were not paying attention at that time, the joke will fall flat. The same goes for using character traits or other in-universe context outside of basic outlines of characters.
Instead, you want something that the viewer can look up from their phone, catch 30 seconds of something rather funny, and float back away again.
This is the reason you see so many "family guy funny moments" compilations on youtube - the majority of its comedy comes from skits which are equally as funny when divorced from information given in earlier scenes.
