His voice direction is to sit there and have a deep voice for the shippers. Really surprising that aside from Angel groping him like he does every other guy on screen, the two don't really interact much in the first two(and a half since the pilot counts) episodes.
I hate how Husker has transitioned from A Guy That’s Barely There as he was in the pilot, to A Guy That’s Barely There And Also Angel Spends Every Available Moment Hitting On Him.
He and Nifty felt totally useless in the pilot, but I had a little good faith that’d start to change in the show proper. I guess there’s still time for that, but they haven’t improved so far. I understand that minor characters like this can still have important roles to play in a story, but usually I don’t actively notice how useless and tacked on a character feels as I do with these two.

Val being more obvious threat while Vox being someone hidden and manipulating things from shadows. Making Val such a b***h makes his story with Angel have so little weight and makes Addict song a borderline joke.

I really like the audio work they did on Vox, but holy shit, I really dislike the one sided mogging they gave him. Feels like there's just no threat from the V's.

The song was good, but making Vs such weak b***hes so early on is stupid. There is pretty much no threat from them. Funny how up until now they felt intimidating, but the moment they started to actually talk they became jokes.
I honestly didn't really get the impression that they were weak b***hes at all. Valentino is extremely nonthreatening compared to other material, but I really think people overestimate Vox getting "beaten".
Pentious gets his ass kicked but Pentious is a joke villain. Vox "loses" his duet song but is clearly enough of a threat still that his overpowered rival still hates televisions.
It felt Alastor's hate of TV isn't tied to Valentino, and more just a distaste of the medium as shown in episode 1.
The reason the song feels so one sided is we get the lines about Vox's power being tied to his viewership, which on its own is a neat connection for a demon.
Despite that, when he's at a peak viewership, Alastor is still able to 'beat' him, even if it's just in a metaphorical sense. That kind of stuff is important.
IMO I'm hoping that Valentino is the actual raw powerhouse of the three.
It's sucks, because the comics protrayed Vox as the one person who could get under Alastor's skin, enough to where the mere sight of his face smiling at him through a TV screen is enough to make him use profanity as he walks away.
I guess we got a tiny bit of that when Alastor says "I said no and now he's pissy", but that's all we got. Not at all like someone who is implied to be the only Sinner capable at beating Al in a straight up fight.

Thoughts on indie animators VS studio animatiors?
OG indie animation is more cuddly/squishy and has cuter designs and showcases character personalities better (namely Charlie and Alastor).
Studio animators had to cut corners due to low budget so it's understandable why the designs and some segments suffered. Sometimes animation improves with subsequent episodes/seasons, but idk. You can't corral real studio workers to put passion into a passion project when it's just their job.

Alastor as a character in the world of this setting makes no sense unless Vivzie pulls off the most annoying type of reveal ever later on which she probably will. How the "Radio Demon" manages to be more powerful than his equivalent "Television Demon" despite everything Vox said being objectively correct about his medium being outmoded is stupid. Either one of two things is happening. One, Alastor is Viv's uguu Gary Stu husbando character, or two, Alastor is equally annoyingly NOT actually the "Radio" demon and is some shit in the same vain as Chainsaw Man's "Chainsaw" Devil actually secretly being the uber bestest demon. Unless there's some secondary or tertiary piece of media I'm missing relating to this lame character.
I think it's less like chainsaw man where every demon is the demon of something, and more the Radio is just Alastor's means of broadcasting his carnage. Vox is tied to his TV, Alastor is not.
I suspect more it'll be Alastor gains his power from making deals, made a deal with Lilith, and from that alone probably got the power to do what he does. Ties him to the 'singing to empower sinners' that was mentioned at the start. This would also be why Vox doesn't want Alastor to make a deal with Charlie, it would make him even stronger.
Ah, that does make more sense. I guess I'll have to just see where it goes. The first two episodes weren't as bad as I thought they'd be, so I guess I'll keep up with it until it gets worse or doesn't.

I would believe he made a deal with either Lucifer or Lilith for power but expected to follow their whims. Wish Helluva Boss did more things like that but Viv thinks that is committing a faux paus to actually flesh out contrasts of ways magic system is used. I would believe Blitzo was bred from a line of acrobats and put through brutal training by Cash to be highly skilled at that and various other performer arts which actually made sense for why he is able to pull off what he does through the show. But Viv thinks being born amazingly good and powerful matters far more than those who actually put in the effort without any sort of comedic reasoning yet wants to be taken dead seriously.
I... I really enjoyed the first two episodes. I have no idea why, I should hate them. I think Helluva Boss sucks fricking dick, but in contrast I actually think this was decent. I thought Adam and Vox had good songs, I don't think the animation is nearly as bad as some people here are saying (not as good as the pilot but that was a passion project with no deadlines).
Also all the characters are unironically more entertaining and less annoying than any Helluva Boss character. There is still lots of sex jokes and cursing but it feels way less common here and also the few people who do it are either intentionally that way as their gimmick (Angel) or villains (Adam) so it feels way less obnoxious.
I actually have to agree, Hazbin Hotel so far has been way more likeable than Helluva Boss. I know it's only just the first two episodes and that could easily change in the future but I still cling to that inkling of hope that the show will turn out better than the other projects.
i'm wary of giving the show too much credit when helluva boss didn't truly nosedive until s2, but the fact that the first two episodes are more tonally consistent (as opposed to the contrast between murder family and loo loo land) and the knowledge there were people giving the writers actual notes helps.

Charlie and her being cute/sweet really is the lynchpin holding all this shit together for me, and I suspect I'm not the only one.
The voice is causing issues with that, along with the character design and animation. It's barely holding together for me at this point. It's like whenever she's not doing something genuinely cool/cute/sweet enough for you to feel it she's on a slight downward trajectory to meh-dom. 'Happy Day in Hell' is fine for what it is, and then her shit with Pentious pulls it back up again, but boy is it uneven.
By contrast Charlie was the absolute shit in the pilot and her energy drives the whole thing forward and knits together all these other literal whackadoodles.
Also just realised why Viv made that overly-long intro over two minutes in Episode 1. It's basically the same length as the overture in the pilot - but that was a literal vocal overture leading you into the world. b***h when you're just talking and exposition dumping you ain't got two minutes. Sixty seconds tops and people are mentally tuning out already.
As a straight, I want a cute girl to watch, and with the reeeedesign of Charlie it somehow ends up Vaggie is the only cute female MC left. and vaggie isn't my type

I’m pleasantly surprised by how much I liked Vox. I didn’t think his rivalry with Alastor was gonna turn out being one of the things I’d be the most interested in. I hope they don’t ruin it by making it dominate the show in a weird and inappropriate way like they did with Blitzo and Stolas in HB. I do still want the focus to stay on Charlie’s plot.
I thought I’d get over Angel Dust’s new voice eventually, but so far I still hate the change. Which is a shame because they’re doing good drama stuff with the character that I want to be invested in, but the voice is distracting. Also I’m mildly disappointed his chest floof is so tiny now. He even has a line drawing attention to it that feels like a tease, where he says people think he has breasts. He doesnt even look like he has breasts anymore so the line doesnt make sense.
I really dislike Husker’s voice too. I usually like Kieth David, but this just sounds like Dr Facilier hiding in a furry suit. It doesn’t suit the character imo.
Oh and I’m glad Nifty got over her crush on Sir P so quick. That coulda gotten old if they tried to make it a running gag.

I do not know about Angel's drama. Now that Val is revealed to be so pathetic I cannot take his drama seriously at all. The same problem I have with Stolas (besides how boring that conflict is now). Also I hated how they tried to have this jealousy from Angel despite that he barely interacted with Charlie in episodes 1 and 2. They tried to do Harvest Moon at episode 2 and did not do basic things that you should do with that storyline like actually have some build up, have maybe a montage to show passage of time and growing resentment. No. Just one scene of them cringe acting and that's all you need. You sure earned all those emotional moments. Seriously this is such a rush. I have no doubt that at this rate 2 seasons will probably be all it will be.

Ugh... My frustration is that THIS was supposed to be the serious show. Helluva Boss was meant to be the "comedic side story" while this was supposed to be taken seriously. I am frustrated that this is what Viv seems to think is a serious story. Writing is something I am passionate about and this frustrates me to no end. And even without taking it seriously I do not get much entertainment from this. There are some laughs, but overall it just falls flat. I've been here since HH pilot so I think I have some right to be disappointed.

Masquerade seems like it could be interesting in theory if they use it to explore some of the bigwigs/politics of hell and how the Demons Lords and their proxies interact with one another.

They do keep stepping around the fact that Charlie not giving a clear picture of who she thinks is and isn't redeemable. It would be one thing if they took it in a, "My name is Earl." kind of route, where she's assisting in helping people right the wrongs they made, and giving actual steps towards change. But the hotel is run more like a conversion therapy facility, where the goal is more to change the person.

It could be the case that Adam (as well as the other exterminators) is actually a sinner who is only allowed into Heaven in exchange for the dirty work in dealing with Hell, the sexual escapades he claims merely being embellishments to Charlie who he assumes will never learn otherwise. This would also mean that he already knows that the premise of the song is wrong, but that's exactly why he's a villain, shutting out others from receiving the special entry into Heaven he got while not even being remorseful.

Pompous Adam actually ended up working pretty well, I was surprised. The problem is she ends up going so beyond satire with him that it ends up making him endearing in a comical sort of way, which defeats the purpose of his character.
It's the "dudebro" vibe they gave him. The problem is instead of just coming off as the guy whose only out to get laid, he comes off just as much as the lovable jackass who does whatever insane thing everyone talks about next morning. The guy who did shit like stealing a street sign to hang up in his bedroom or who jumped off the porch of an apartment and booked it when the cops replied to the noise complaint.

And none of it is an exaggeration, it's the fricking show.

I went in really hating Adam, but he's actually pretty likeable and the song he does is lowkey a banger, the only one I remember after the vox and alastor one. Once you get past his design and how the show is more "inspired by" the Bible instead of a one to one retelling of it, it's pretty fun. Alastor felt fricking downright menacing in the pilot. Was really good shit. Amazing what you can do with some relatively simple animation and dramatic tricks. Vaggie is hardly my favourite character, but well used with Alastor exposition and Angel being like, "I'm not into politics". Charlie's reaction to seeing him at the door is adorable and fricking priceless, and all his nuanced evil reactions to shit are imaginative and really fantastic work. Picrel shot is particularly memorable. That's got that Ren & Stimpy detail shot creep factor.
The kind of shit that's conspicuously missing in the new series and makes Alastor in particular just seem flat.
It's his voice. They turned down the weird but neat uncanny radio crackle so you could hear him better but all it did was make the new va sound worse.
Yeah, there was no good reason to change that, that shit was actually brilliant, but visually it's like watching an Aladdin sequel where the genie just moves around like a normie at flat angles most of the time, and obvious deflating downgrade from the original where he's doing his magic shit all the time and just never lets up.
Seems to me that there's a broad drop in animation quality that has characters not as expressive and lively as they were in the pilot. Besides Alastor, other examples that caught my attention in this regard are Angel and Sir Pent.

I feel like for 20+ minutes nothing really happened. Sir P’s interactions with the hotel crew and Angel dust feeling dejected felt rushed because apparently we needed to cram some unnecessary musical numbers in there.

Watched the first two eps but it really feels unimpressive asides from the musical scenes? And even then, they feel one too many (like the apology one just felt forced and really could have been a genuinely good scene if not for that). The humor is baaaaaarely there and it feels kinda hard holding any kind of emotional bearing over the characters after a bit. Alastor seemed okay, but not by a lot in second episode and that was meant to be the one watering down the TV guy to make Alastor come out on top of him. When I see so many male characters being this twisted/sexified/I don't even know, it feels more like Vivzie taking advantage to make the characters come alive for the sake of her... it's hard to explain without making her seem like a bloodthirsty fangirl over most of these bowtie designs.

I genuinely don't understand where the "heaven bad hell good" complaint is coming from. Sure, the "heaven bad" part is true, but at which point did you get the impression that hell was portrayed in any sort of positive light? If anything it was shown that Charlie is borderline delusional with her goal if she thinks anyone can be redeemed while frickers are literally eating and killing the shit out of each other on the streets.

Charlie just has a completely warped point of view since she’s never been on Earth or heaven, hell is all she knows so the whole idea that her home is meant to be shit and full of bad people just doesn’t compute in her mind.
Compared to the depiction in the pilot, Hell is looking a lot softer in the show proper. It also seems to be that HB is making a point to have a lot of Hell's inhabitants come off as decent normal folk with occasional scumbags.
The funniest part is how all the characters in HB who are coming off as decent folk are all hell born like Charlie, meanwhile ex-human sinners are buttholes.

Pentious is the only funny character, which comes as a surprise. What the frick is wrong with Valentino's voice though? The accent is extremely inconsistent. Vaggie is also extremely bland and boring. The rest of the voices are serviceable.
That comes with a caveat though: Viv opted for supposed "Broadway glamour," when everything in this, the Pilot voices would have been 100% capable of. Was unnecessary to replace them.
