Now that we have these dates in chronological order, why are people saying that Hazbin Hotel was delayed because of the SAG strike?
The wayback archive shows that A24 changed the release date from "2023" to "Coming Soon" by June 13 already, aka a month before the SAG strike even began.
And yet the subreddit is running with Viv and Sam's vagueposting on Twitter and saying that the delay must be due to the SAG strike.
What is the truth here?

Actually, it's probably because Vivziepop sold the rights to her show and redesigned character designs, but retained the rights to her pilot and original character designs, so she can only sell merch of the OG character designs.
She still owns the show, the point of A24 was to be different by actually letting creators be in charge of their creations. It's such a wild and wacky concept that they had to do it privately since companies didn't understand what they were saying to them and kept asking them to give them alien technology

I work logistics and warehousing and I knew the potential UPS strike was coming at least 4 months before the whole thing blew over. Strikes aren’t decided upon overnight.
plus the new rumor for the delay is a loss of a streaming partner. Common sense would dictate that they aimed for HBO max but they pulled out, netflix is ostensibly a no-go since theyve fricked over their animation division, and apparently amazon prime is apparently not prestigious enough.
And even then, the assumption that the strikes have anything to do with the delay is moronic. if the show is actually completed, why would the strike affect its release at all?

I know very little about Christianity but isn't it actually possible for people to leave hell and ascend to heaven after spending so many years being punished for their sins? Someone could probably make a story set in hell that explores a similar premise to HH that asks the question, "why is the system suddenly not working?". You'd obviously need a very different cast of characters though.
Jesus went down to Hell after coming back from the dead to free the souls of the righteous who had died before his crucifixion, but I think you might be thinking of Purgatory, which traditionally was where repentant souls go to be cleansed of sin and ascend to Heaven, although these days few doctrines really include it.

That's actually heresy (universalism). You have your time as a living being to get into Heaven, essentially. Saints and your loved ones can intercede for you when you die to try picking up your slack, but once you're in Hell, you're stuck there.

I kept it secret because they openly post in-studio pictures on social media and I was hoping they might mistakingly post more hazbin hotel content at some point but that never happened so.. there's no point in me hiding this anymore. It's probably for the better I say this anyway so this post might eventually reach them and they don't leak anymore shit.

Not really. Helluvas pilot came out in November 2019, around a month after Hazbins, pilot, while A24 picked Hazbin up in late 2020.
I wouldn't be surprised though if the scope of Helluva changed after A24 came into the picture seeing as it became much bigger than the small Imp spinoff it was originally ment to be.

It really depends on how it's framed, if his backstory episode obsesses over sympathetic qualities like a really shitty and abusive dad and glosses over his psychopathy and sadism it would be poorly done.
If he must have a somewhat sympathetic backstory, I'd make it so that he did have a fairly tough upbringing, but he always had a screw loose and enjoyed seeing things in pain at a very young age even before the going got tough for him.

I think he always had problems to begin with, but whatever his circumstances were probably exacerbated and made it worse. That's my theory.

It could be shown as a bit of a self-fulfilling slope, where his father was always a bit of a shithead but did legitimately care about his kid.
But every time Alastor acted up, which would usually involve him being a bit of a psycho, his dad would really kick his ass.
I think everyone not a fricking moron wants Alastor to be this evil sadist who doesn't have a good bone in his body, but giving him a bit of sympathetic backstory while making it clear he always had a tiny touch of that sadism in him would be something I'll be done for.
Unfortunately that would require nuisanced writing, and that's something Viv can't do.

Studios make money by being paid by publishers/distributors to have the right to show their products. Publishers/distributors in turn make their money by licensing said products to tv/streaming services.

What's also worth noting is apparently HBO MAX was in the midst of making a deal for it's rights in mid-2022, but a shakeup of leadership around that time and the new heads avoiding any animated stuff meant that plan went out the window.
I have to bet that HBO MAX was the only streaming service interested enough to give A24 the deal they were hoping for, and with one of largest services leaving the bidding picture that also drives down the price that the other streaming services are willing to offer.
Part of me wonders if streaming services are hesitant because of possible backlash. Unlike other adult animation shows, HH's style is definitely more appealing to kids, especially the kids who already like things like FNAF and Huggy Wuggy. If shitty parents let their kids watch whatever and then they find out their kids are watching a cartoon set in hell with sex, drugs, etc. I can imagine conservative outrage, especially from the religious folks.

Streaming services generally foot the bill for production costs when it comes to acquiring new series.
Let's assume Hazbin Hotel has an eight episode season with each episode costing 150,000 dollars to make this means a streaming company would be paying at minimum 1,200,000 dollars to acquire, the real number is probably much higher.
Picking up a random indie cartoon is pretty risky, doubly so since ostensibly all streaming services are suffering huge financial losses right now.
This, Hazbin undoubtedly had a troubled production and right now it's in distribution Hell. They probably did think it would release this summer back early this year, because production had wrapped and all A24 needed was a decent offer that they never got, it would be pretty damn late for a final offer but that could be blamed on the leadership shakeup that HBO MAX had.
This won't last forever, either A24 will bite the bullet and accept a subpar deal which is very likely, or do the very unlikely thing and gamble and allow Viv to put the videos up on Youtube if no streaming services are even bothering to put up offers.
A subpar deal for where it lands could solidify HH as just a 1-season thing.
It probably would but there's other possiblities, if Hazbin against all odds lands on something like Prime Video (Who A24 already have a working relationship with another animated show coming out called #1 Happy Family USA) and gets high viewership numbers, it could justify a second season, which are usually cheaper than the first due to the ability of being able to reuse backgrounds and such.
There's also the possiblity that if it flops, A24 might offer to sell Hazbin back to Viv to help cover their losses.
More likely to happen is that Hazbin winds up never finding a spot to stream. Live TV broadcast was always out of the question since if HBO max won’t take it for whatever price theyre asking, theyre not going to waste tv slots on HBO proper on it. adult swim is notoriously cheap about its productions, so they wont buy it, and that would be the only other network Hazbin could comfortably slot into and still be able to reach anywhere near its target audience.
So again, all you’re left with is streaming, and none of the services are buying it at the price A24 wants which is ostensibly at or near the break-even point already, meaning to even sell this shitshow they’d have to eat a loss, and at that point I’m certain A24 would rather throw Hazbin into the tax write-off hole, never to be seen again.
I don't think that it will be thrown into the void and never see the light of release, even if that does happen more likely than not someone will leak all the episodes, which would be a pretty funny note to end this on.
This is why Hazbin SHOULD have stayed indie, but I could only assume Viv lusted after getting broadway voices attached to Hazbin.
Niche animation exist on mainstream channels, but the difference is those niche shows have animation that's inexpensive to produce so it can still turn a profit, Hazbin has the death sentence of being both a niche concept and having it's fluid and expensive animation being a large draw to what makes it popular.

Why is it so hard for Viv to write female characters, judging by the Hazbin pilot and how she handles Millie and Loona in HB the female cast that isn't named Charlie will boil down to this and won't get proper development.

There are not many directions these characters are setup to go, which wouldn't be an issue on its own because this is a pilot, and they can't make detailed setups for every major character in the span of twenty or so minutes. But HB proved that the female characters are almost always just attached to another character and are given little to no agency of their own. Sure we got a 'Millie Episode' with Unhappy Campers, but that just tore down Moxxie. The episode would have worked better if the premise was that Moxxie was sick or something and couldn't deal with their next target.
