Video released by original Hazbin Hotel voice cast:
Have we talked about this yet? Are we going to talk about it? Reactions? Expected reactions? Why hasn't Viv had it taken down? How does she feel about it? Was it a thinly-veiled middle finger and frick you to Viv?
Was it unofficially sanctioned somehow?
>released 18 hours after Amazon launch
No Stamper? No Joe? No way!
The only important take
Viv is a shitty friend and never viewed indie animation as anything other than a stepping stone. She’d rather hang out with her union actor buddies and make edgelord slop instead of defining a new generation of cartoonists. It’s why I gag whenever people say she’s the next Ralph Bakshi or Spumco. Those guys had talent, she just got lucky because American audiences are extremely stupid.
>Ralph Bakshi or Spumco
That doesn't like a good thing either to be honest. Bakshi has his place in animation history but not great either. She's definitely following Maxwell Adams. Great start but...what's next? Get 2 shows and your candle goes out.
>She got unbelievable lucky when she got the original cast onboard. That's what makes her later actions all the worse.
Its not up to Viv dummy her studio heafs have the final say and if they want nepotism hires then so be it SLAVE
You're falling for one of the oldest tricks in the book: let the corpo take the blame so she doesn't have to face the music.
Take the blame for what? You think because they voiced a pilot episode 4 years ago that entitles them to the roles for the main series? You realize TV shows film pilot episodes all the time realize an actor or even multiple actors they’ve cast aren’t a good fit after all and end up recasting for the main series, right? Why is Hazbin Hotel supposed to be held to a different started to every other show ever produced?
Because it's gay. That's really it. Unless the critiques are explained in detail assume the posts are done in bad faith.
I don't think anyone is owed anything. But here's the really basic version of the oldest trick in the book: If it's worthy of praise, viv will claim credit. If it's worthy of scorn, the corpo shield gets deployed and she is cleared of any involvement at all. If there weren't still people upset about the VA change, she would've claimed credit for it by now.
Their voices were GREAT, they knew the characters and were what people fell in love with
I bet you're a moron that hates AI art rabidly without any intelligence but somehow can't fathom giving credit to anyone else that works on a cartoon but the artists...
idk what you're saying anon but you're speaking Black persony, I need you to speak some actual sense here.
WRONG
A24 gives full control to the creator
All the choices to replace the writers of the pilot and its voice actors was HER decision and she's outright said as much
Post proof.
A24 is known for this, it's the entire purpose of A24 and why it was founded. Try the simplest of googling you lazy piece of shit
And go look up stuff Viv has said or read this very thread. She only wants famous people, she's one of those shallow parasocial tards
>She only wants famous people, she's one of those shallow parasocial tards
I legitimately can't understand this mindset. You're already famous. You made it. You escaped indie hell. What more validation could you need?
So nothing but speculation. At least learn how to inspect the element of viv's tweets so you can shitpost properly.
>she just got lucky because American audiences are extremely stupid.
+ wealthy family
I vastly prefer OG cast and character designs. The only voice I say is overall better is Keith David, but he is pretty much always great. He could play Charlie and I wouldn't care. But the rest? Yeah. By far OG cast.
Also in a way it does feel like a middle finger. Or at least it feels like they made it to prove that they can sing too.
>they made it to prove that they can sing too.
If that’s the case they failed. I prefer the OG cast too but when it comes to singing the new cast blows the OG cast out of the fricking water. It’s not even close and anyone who thinks otherwise may as well be deaf because their ears are clearly worthless.
Charlie's voice and singing is way better in the actual show. Same with Alastor. The only major downgrades I'd say are Vaggie and Katie Killjoy.
I still prefer the originals personally.
I hope you gays get what you fricking deserve and there's a ten minute Killjoy number. I'd gladly let Faye rape my earholes with her worst drunken karaoke singing than listen to [some homosexual] doing it pitch perfect. And if that ludicrous change doesn't clue you into the fact they're not even trying to match appropriate voices to the actual characters, I don't know what to tell you except that you're fricking moronic.
I respect the talents of Broadwaygays as much as the next musical homosexual, but I haz a sad just listening to this video because I miss Lovelock's voice so much. There's a big difference between being performative pitch-perfect and having soul - especially appropriate to the character. Charlie's speaking voice even lacks the sweet timbre both her pilot voices had, to the point it's almost boring to listen to her by comparison.
Charlie being cute wasn't just the original character design and animation style. Think about it, there are characters with such simple and limited animation that the ONLY thing that sells them is their VA. You think some homosexual would be dropping $50k on that little video if Jill and Elsie weren't there doing their darndest to make Charlie the most adorable thing in the Nine Circles of Hell?
I'm not saying the new cast are bad, bad people, or bad singers. I am saying I'd take the pilot cast any day of the week, and it's not just that I 'don't like things that are different'. I like it in proportion to how much it actually works, but it just doesn't work as well as the pilot cast. Like them, hate them, think they're being piss-babies all you want, but it still doesn't change that fact.
Charlie's just one example. I don't give a frick how well that homosexuals sing, every time Angel opens his mouth to talk it sounds whiny and annoying. His first line after the Vox/Alastair song, "Well, how'd it go?", makes me want to tear my hair out. Are you fricking kidding me with that shit?
You've said my take on the recasting more than I can, so elegantly done anon. Hopefully you'll talk about how they've ruined Angel as well, just to showcase the worst of the changes.
He's not exactly my favourite character in either the pilot or the new series, but I'd take the old voice any day, and by a mile, but not for the reason you might think.
People talk about the new VA like he's hot shit, but I honestly don't see it. Not just saying that because he's new. Angel was one of the characters I was never attached to AT ALL, so figured I wouldn't care either way - SHOULDN'T care either way - but he's sounds so whiny now I actually find it grating. Believe me, if I honestly thought he was an improvement I'd be the first to say so, because it would mean that he annoyed me LESS, and that would be a distinct improvement.
Again it's not that Blake is bad, has a bad voice, or is a bad person necessarily, it's that I don't think he's a good fit for the character, at least the way he's playing it. I don't particularly like either the Addict or the Poison song personally. I can tolerate them for what they are if I'm not watching the gay shit on screen. I've heard people complain that Kovach can't sing and was autotuned, etc. Okay, I don't see why you couldn't get someone else to sing his shit if that's going to be a problem, better than having a shittier speaking voice the rest of the time.
I wouldn't have objected to them hiring Broadwaygays or just people of a higher skill level to sing if it were justified by the complexity. There's nothing wrong with that, but I just don't really see it.
My biggest problem though is I strongly suspect if you had the next Julie fricking Andrews voicing Charlie in the pilot, but she hadn't yet worked on a literal Broadway stage, or been recognised by those gays, Viv would have zero respect for her, have no idea she had a songbird in the hand, and let her go to find two D-list Broadway-namegays in the bush. She's literally that much of a clueless clout-chasing prostitute, and that's what I hate about this situation more than anything.
They didn't even try with Katie's "new" voice. She's voiced by Brandon Rodgers and I immediately hear Blitzo. Just fricking why?
>Charlie's voice and singing is way better in the actual show
Spoken by someone who didn't understand what made Charlie good.
The new Charlie, and i will say this to the end of time, is RUINING THE CHARACTER by voicing her in such a campy jokey Broadway comedy way.
That voice of an overly energetic 40-year-old (idk actual age of VA) doing a crying womanbaby is not charming, it's not cute nor is it even funny. Her entire direction feels like she's constantly winking at a camera we can't see. "aren't i so quirky arent my antics so silly&humorousss" Well they aren't
they're just making the character turn into a joke rather than someone with a sincere personality whose plight was empathizable and believable
SO ANNOYED BY IT tbh
I think you're onto something there. Pilot Charlie wasn't holds-up-spork 'le quirky', she was just highly expressive. A feminine trait attractive to males, (and spergs with $50k), in an equal and opposite way to women liking men being stoic, and it applied to Charlie visually as well as vocally.
But just as moronic girls totally misinterpret this kind of shit and think men will like them if they are unsmiling and stoic, (because that's what THEY like), and maybe get some tattoos too for the same reason, dumb b***hes can also interpret men liking expressive, smiling, bubbly women as that phony lolsorandom 'I'm so cray-cray' shit.
Viv nailed Charlie dead centre the first time, but managed to find a way to frick it up. Sad. Usually when a woman does something like that I go looking for the source of bad advice so I can mercilessly beat it to death. God only knows where Viv is getting her stupid ideas, but considering she gained some success, and how oversensitive she is to legit critique, it would be no shock to find some asskissing Grima Wormtongue in her ear with their own agenda. Many such cases.
I think that she almost quite literally hires people based on how famous and high-up they are. The decision to grab Keith David for Husk, for example, was probably "Wow, you've worked for Disney? Maybe you know some Disney people. Please get closer into my social circle".
It was a nice song. Shame we'll never see more of Kovach's Angel or the rest of the cast, but at least they all seemed like they had fun reuniting one more time.
It’s their fault for not being better singers. They’re OK but viv is looking for perfection and the OG cast just weren’t it. It’s not personal it’s just business. Cinemaphile acts like a bunch of moronic babies. There’s nothing wrong with recasting. It happens all time time.
>viv is looking for perfection
So why on Earth did she settle for Vaggie's current VA?
She has a great singing voice. I don’t know what you’re talking about.
She is literally phoning in like 99% of her lines.
Terrible speaking voice though.
Valentino's voice sucks.
Alastor is basically just impersonating the Pilot voice to the best of his ability, so we came full circle and what was the point?
If that's true, then why does Angel Dust sound bad, even when he's singing?
He doesn’t. You’re just a b***h. Don’t worry, you’ll get over it and accept the fact that the new cast is a 1000 times better by next week once you’ve had some time to get over the change.
You aren't winning anyone to your cause by calling them a b***h, anon. I don't think Angel sounds good but I didn't slander you because of it. Grow up.
I’m sorry, I love you. My tooth hurts and it’s making me lash out. Can you find it in your heart to forgive me?
Sure, it might not mean much, but any attempt at unity is better than dissent. I forgive you, anon. Learn and grow from this interaction, my friend.
Holy shit this is disrespectful as frick. I hope Viv manages to get all these losers blacklisted. They’re clearly too unprofessional and don’t deserve to be voice actors. They should go fricking work at McDonalds. Talentless clowns that can’t come to terms with the reality that they’re mediocre singers.
why? to make Viv more burgers? She sure LOVES those an awful lot, doesn't she?
i saw the pilot and watched ep1
because of the verblase meme
the pilot was better, the characters, the voices, the animation. the only thing that ep1 did better was the singing but i hate musicals
I wish you drama loving homosexuals would frick off to a different website
It makes no sense on the one hand getting Lovelock to sing in the pilot, and then on the other hand say you can't have Harris in the new series because she can't sing and/or that Lovelock can't sing, (when it's precisely why you got her in the first place).
Also gays thinking it's somehow necessary or intrinsically better to have the cast do both is moronic because you can practically hear these Broadway gays switching mental gears. They'll be talking and then they might as well say:
>PREPARE TO ENGAGE SINGING MODE
>SINGING MODE ENGAGED
>COMMENCE SINGING MODE
Because then they sound totally different anyway. The highly-trained vocal-coached 'muh professionalism' can actually make it even worse in some ways in a 'samey' kinda way.
It's not even that you couldn't get even better VA's than the original, but that she just didn't really. Seems more like she got a bunch of Broadwaygays she personally was able and liked, and then had to find characters for them, instead of the other way around. Stupid after she was so lightning-in-a-bottle lucky with the original cast. And the really telling thing here is that she changed them all. None of these people were worth keeping where they were? Are they all going to have significant, difficult singing to do? Nothing convinces me of that so far. And how likely is that just probabilistically when you're working on something like this? That you don't decide you nailed some aspect of it the first time?
That would be like ditching the entire cast of 'Back to the Future', because this Eric Stoltz guy just isn't working out.
"Yeah might as well get rid of that Christopher Lloyd guy too while you're at it":
Just doesn't tend to ever work that way when you're REFINING something like this, working out scheduling conflicts, or negotiating genuine production issues.
Not to mention the biggest detail gays are missing here:
None of this is being performed live on a FRICKING STAGE!
Frick you Viv.
You’re so dumb. Back then when she had the OG cast that was the best she could get at the time. Since then she was able to upgrade the cast to far more talented people. Why shouldn’t she have done it? You act like she owed them anything, she didn’t. They got paid for the work they did and that’s that. If they’re so talented the should be able to find new work and stop obsessing over a pilot they did 4 years ago.
>You act like she owed them anything, she didn’t.
I didn't suggest anything of the sort. That's just a straw man you made up because you don't want to address the real argument I'm making. That the original cast is a better fit and why, regardless of any relative one-dimensional metric of 'muh talent'. Which Viv seems to only measure based on who is an actual Broadwaygay or with some in-crowd rather than actual relative merit.
At a certain level the differences aren't that extreme. So it's like firing your secretary who can type 140wpm for some other b***h who can type 150wpm without taking anything else into account, and when you never really need much shit typed or particularly that fast anyway. Like it would be nice to have that, but in the final equation you're probably better off keeping the perfectly competent b***h you have who works extremely well in that position, that you already know goes above and beyond, and your clients already like dealing with - fricking love dealing with.
I didn't say Viv HAS TO DO fricking anything, I'm just calling her stupid for doing inexplicably dumb shit. And I could easily sympathise with a secretary replaced on a stupid misguided whim, because you generally expect people to act rationally and are blindsided, perplexed, and disappointed when they don't.
Was there ANY reason whatsoever to cast a man as Katie Killjoy? Whiplash was so big at first I thought they made mistake and the gasmask anchor was the one who was supposed to be talking.
>LOL ISN'T IT FUNNY THAT KATIE IS OBVIOUSLY VOICED BY MAN??? LAUGH! LAUGH NOW!!!!
The worst part of it was how significant that character and performance was to the pilot and its overall success. How Viv can just throw that away along with the character like it's nothing is just fricking unreal.
Yeah, seems like that's what she's been reduced to. Not even original and not even funny the first time.
Viv comes out and says it's all her vision, (probably because she wants all the credit), so she can take all the blame too as far as I'm concerned. Even if I don't actually believe her, I'm going to act like I believe her.
But I do have some questions: If this is all her artistic vision then why is it so different to the pilot? Is she saying that wasn't all her artistic vision? Or is she like some kind of weird schizophrenic female George Lucas that only waits a few years before changing all her own shit?
But she can't even use the Lucas excuse because she'd have to say, "Well I wanted Katie Killjoy to be a man in the original, but I just didn't have the budget/technology at the time".
>inb4 Alastor is more powerful than Vox due to his higher Midi-chlorian count
Killjoy was obviously pretty much EXACTLY what she wanted in the pilot, so why lie about it now? There's no way for her to make that make sense, (along with a lot of other shit).
> If this is all her artistic vision then why is it so different to the pilot?
gay boy, it’s been years since the pilot. Don’t you think the obvious answer to your question simply that over the time that’s she’s been working on this show her vision has changed somewhat
>Don’t you think the obvious answer to your question simply that over the time that’s she’s been working on this show her vision has changed somewhat
Changed so that now Killjoy is a man? That's certainly what I'd call "changing somewhat", I'll give you that homosexual.
Yes! Her having a man voice was super funny I laughed so hard! Back then she hadn’t thought to do something so hilarious but in the time between now and then that obviously changed and we are so fortunate that it did because it’s much funnier than what we got in the pilot episode.
>Or is she like some kind of weird schizophrenic female George Lucas that only waits a few years before changing all her own shit?
This is a lot more common than you'd think. Especially for works like these where that "vision" comes from someone like viv.
Did they turn off adblock??
?si=DeWkmUizrlT0D1cz
All the discussion about this show positive or negative on Cinemaphile is weirdly parasocial
I'm not gonna pay attention to a show where the creator can't even draw muscles because she's scared of them.
The moment when someone can't draw more body diversity including muscular people, is when I know the show ain't going anywhere.
why did the pilot look so much better then the actual show?
Lack of soul, unironically.
>why they didnt use stamper the racist and schizo dude bros :((
Anybody got a mega for the four eps?
i still have the feeling that in the years to come some of those actors will rise and start to reveal all the crap behind scenes and VIV will end as another show creator on the black list for legal reasons
I want her show to get even more "Very Important People" to show interest so that she can ditch all THESE current people on her journey to the next ladder rung
>Why hasn't Viv had it taken down?
if she does it's going to look really, really fricking bad on her
>Was it a thinly-veiled middle finger and frick you to Viv?
i think it's both an earnest passing-of-the-tourch to the new VAs, they clearly have no beef with them since they're all just doing their jobs and have wished them well on other platforms, but it's definitely simutanously a massive frick you to viv, i mean jesus christ;
>But we won't leave you with nothing,
>At least we hope you gave you something,
>Even if that something made your conscience cry
there's no fricking way that verse wasn't a huge jab towards her
