The counterpoint to that is that the debate isn't (or shouldn't be) about whether or not Hermione is black but about whether or not she's white.
The point that Rowling originally made when talking about it was that Hermione was written without any ethnicity in mind. Ignoring Rowling's obvious lying (since she's the most stereotypical Brit from back then and the "norm" was white in her mind), there's merit in that argument based solely on what she wrote.
Again, with books, the great thing is that you can imagine whatever you want as long as it fits with what's written. So that one line isn't much evidence. It's obvious to you. But let's say a 10 yo Indian girl read the series and imagined Hermione as Indian. Lighter skinned Indians are very pale. So that line wouldn't have contradicted the image in her head. Is Hermione an Indian name? No. But it's also not really a British name. I've met less than 5 people in my entire life ever named Hermione, living in the UK myself. Granger is a better case for being an English name. So what if said Indian girl imagined Hermione as having a white father and an Indian mother? (The funny thing is that as far as I'm aware, neither of her parents actually have names)
Again, nothing to contradict that. And that's the point Rowling was really making, though she isn't always the best writer. You can swap Indian with Inuit or native American or Filipino. Rowling choosing black was arbitrary but follows the same logic.
