would be cool, especially if they do it with the bad ending have the mc become evil after the first season (the game). Now WB still owns the IP right? They should start working on HL2 while the tv show is in production, then once it's out release hl2.

One of the members NewJeans, a popular Kpop group, named Hyein is a really huge fan of Harry Potter that she often talks about in her streams and interviews. She even has the official wand merchandise and has all the hard cover books in English and Korean. So yeah, it's still popular, even with younger generations in foreign countries.

And before someone questions it, my younger cousin is a really huge Kpop fan and she stans her bias Hyein, who is the same age as her (15).

my younger cousins love the movies

I know!! This is some of my casting:
      McGonagall - Olivia Coleman
      Dumbledore - Idris Elba
      Snape - Adam Driver
      Hagrid - Cole Hauser
      Voldemort - Jeremy Strong
      Bellatrix - Jodie Comer

      Notes:
-On Dumbledore, I considered Jared Harris as a very natural choice but the more I thought about it the more I could 't deny I prefer Idris.
-On Bellatrix, Eva Green immediately came to mind but I felt she was a little too obvious and on the nose somehow. I came to prefer my idea of Jodie.
-Jeremy Strong as Voldemort is my favorite idea.

      >Voldemort - Jeremy Strong
brave, i love strong as kendall but he doesnt fit voldy. would watch if they cast him though
for lucius malfoy im thinking Macfadyen might be a good choice but he might be a little too old for that role now
also debicki as narcissa malfoy lol

I think Jeremy Strong would do a great job with the narcissistic gravitas of Voldemort. You might be underestimating him as an actor, he wouldn't just show up and be edgy Kendall lol. I'm aware it's an unconventional choice tho
I love Macfayden as Lucius, that's a genius choice.

said: the YA market was utterly destroyed by the 1-2 punch of twilight and hunger games shifting the genre's demographic towards legbeards and their power/romance fantasies, which means Harry Potter has practically no contemporary competition and likely never will.

Prolly will. Everyone and their grandpa read Harry Potter to their kid during covid lockdowns, or watched the movies. Sales went way up. The game increased immersion in the world.
If they're smart, it won't just be another rehash of the books, since everyone knows Harry's story by now.

i mean that people are going into it with plenty of exposure to HP. the story is well known by a hundred million people.
after the first episode of GoT, most of my friends didn't have HBO at the time, so i invited them over twice to watch it just to see them have their nips blown off. the people who saw it the first time came back with the ones who didn't see it yet.
the opening with the walker decapitating Royce and fading into the theme song gave everyone chills
i can't see the first episode of harry potter having that effect.

GOT was popular because it was the average normalgay's first brush with fantasy. It's the same as the MCU making comic movies accessible to anyone, or Skyrim making normalgays realize that RPGs are worth playing
Just take an existing niche and heavily market it towards people who have never interacted with it, that means you can get away with low quality shit

it was new. the bulk of the audience wasn't familiar with the books. it was surprising and kept viewers hooked.

            not
            >holy crap that dude just threw a kid out of a window for witnessing him cuckolding the king with his sister? shit what happens next

for the original HP, readers/parents of readers WERE the bulk of the audience. they wanted to see the characters and world brought to life. the last film was released in 2011. it's not like vfx has made such great strides that the magic can truly be captured now, as was the case for GoT and jackson's LotR

so we agree GoT was popular.
this is a thread about a new harry potter show, claiming it will be the biggest thing ever.

        >If they're smart, it won't just be another rehash of the books
That's exactly what it will be, and that's why it will be so successful. The movies mangled the books because they were focused on being blockbusters within a two hour time limit. The books always should have been a tv series, they each cover an entire school year.

Lmao the original version of that must be copium extra. Le magical minorities never had anything bad to say about HP back then, they were fully on board just like the white girls and like them they built their personalities and political views around it. Pic rel for the reminder of how they all were before the 2020s.

Rowling is a rod for the global litmus test.

If you disagree with anything she says regarding trans folk, you are part of the (big) problem in the world.

The people she made along the way betrayed her.

      >As long as they keep the main trio white it should be successful
      100% they wont be white.
      Reasoning is simple -
      1. Jk rowling already said that she imagines hermione as Black person and hermione in stageplay was already blacked.
      2. Hollywood hates redheads, so ron has to be modernized into some sort of mixed race beast.
      3. Hbo is consistenly doing "modern" casting now, see last of us or true detective s04 and its clearly ruining the shows, and they dont care.

Its 2024, 0% chanche that this will be faithfully casted.

        >Jk rowling already said that she imagines hermione as Black person and hermione in stageplay was already blacked.
No she didn't, you're just an autistic incel who lacks social awareness. She was saying that to defend the black actress who played Hermione in the Cursed Child. Not because it's actually true, as anyone who's read the books can tell you, but because she felt it was the class thing to do. Hermione in the tv series adaption will not be black. This is WB's most valuable IP and they aren't going to risk it. Nor would they even be tempted to. You're acting like they're Amazon. They're not.
        >Hbo is consistenly doing "modern" casting now
        No they aren't.
        >see last of us or true detective s04
Wow there were some nonwhites in The Last of Us and True Detective Season 4?? Holy shit I'm losing my mind!!
        >Its 2024, 0% chanche that this will be faithfully casted.
It will be perfectly casted, just like all of HBO's most important shows. No, that doesn't include your gay little video adaption you stupid virgin.

child actors are really hit or miss, and when they miss it's noticeable in the worst way.
i hated the hp movies that i saw (1 and 4 i think?) the main trio were unwatchably bad to me.
radcliffe seems alright now, but he's still fidgety. grint fricked off to go have IBS or whatever he does. and watson coasted on the "i wanna frick hermione" train

There's probably nothing I can say to someone as stupid as you, but she was black in a minor adaption of an essentially non-canon book, because it's a fricking stage production and no one cares. HBO will be making the most profitable tv series of all time with this adaption, and will be drawing from the books, in which Hermione is white. They have no incentive to risk their most valuable IP by making her black. It isn't going to happen. When it doesn't happen, you'll forget how sure you were in this post and go on thinking you know everything as usual.

She had no part in the casting of the play. Did you really expect Liberal left-wing Rowling to come out and say "frick this Black person b***h 14/88 hermione is pure aryan stock"?
Doesn't mean she's going to make the same decision as the play's producers for the TV show. She vetoed lots of casting decisions in the movies, forbade American actors from playing British characters, etc.

            >The long-rumored Harry Potter TV series for HBO Max is on track to clear the biggest hurdle in its path to the screen: a deal with the books’ author JK Rowling who has creative control over any exploitation of her work

Rowling has famously never ceded creative control of the HP franchise at any level. Even when she sold the movie rights to WB, it was with a stipulation that she retained a veto on virtually all casting and scripting decisions. You can hate on Rowling and her shitty brainless teen fiction for lots of reasons, but I respect that she maintained control.

They can´t do that. Wands are essentially guns, if they turn the wizards into Americans Harry won´t survive the 7 seasons.

If Harry's black the whole thing dies.
Even before the echoes of a million DINGs fade, the fact is that Radcliffe's look, the one that most matches the front cover of the first book, is so engrained that it's cast a lookalike or lose the face of the franchise.
Any marketing exec on the planet would have an aneurysm if they knew they'd have to spend time reinventing the lead's look and getting the public to accept it.
