Del Taco's version of Pinocchio was the first time americans saw an animated adaptation of the shory be unashamed to be mature in its storyrelling (even though there is some comedy). I guess unashamed is the best word to describe it. It has jokes and tells them, but does not hide behind jokes afraid to lose the viewer's attention.
Honestly the fact that we're almost for sure not getting a sequel sits right with me. I mean the character faced death itself. There's no way you can develop a character past that
Honestly yeah, the movie was just a solid 7/10 but the competition was simply mediocre, Turning Red was the Pixar movie that had the least new animation techniques and writing ever since the studio was created, Elemental was them finally going back to experimenting again.
Unironically how I'm wrong? Just compare Turning Red to Elemental and it's not even a competition, Turning Red looks identical to several Dreamworks movies in every way, Elemental got a really unique style.
yep, pinoccio felt like it was trying too hard for an award and coasted on having del taco's name on the title.
Also the songs in pinoccio were shite and death was used better in last wish.
Shrek 2 is an overrated, boring, unfunny, outdated, visually unnapealing and vapid piece of garbage with no sincerity and horrendous villains like Fairy Godmother, the only good thing is puss in boots, the rest is trash, one of the worst Dreamworks/PDI efforts ever.
Shrek 2 is a fairly rated, entertaining, funny, outdated pop culture jokes that are still funny due to actually being jokes instead of just referencing and expecting clapping filled, visually decent, and colorful masterpiece with interesting villains that add depth to the lore like Fairy Godmother. Puss in Boots and his impact is one of the best additions it adds to the series showing how the rest of the film is an amazing sequel that expands the franchise in great ways. One of the best Dreamworks/PDI efforts ever.

Everything that unfolds relies on characters making short-sighted decisions, losing their temper, being ungrateful or bigoted, being easy to blackmail, manipulate or deceive, being willing to read to diary of someone else, going to bed without bothering to have a conversation after an argument, being incompetent at their job (Puss), being awful at not getting the team discovered by the villains (Donkey causes this twice), the villain not having a bit of morality or patience (Fairy Godmother), characters being on the right place at the right time, Shrek's friends being able to travel an over 700 miles distance in a few hours without transporation, and Charming waiting years to go rescue Fiona for no reason. I also don't like how almost the entire film takes place in just 3 days.

>Everything that unfolds relies on characters making short-sighted decisions, losing their temper, being ungrateful or bigoted
Shrek always had a temper and Harold being racist is a character flaw he must learn to grow past. The hate for ogres is something that existed since the first movie since people are scared of them. >being easy to blackmail, manipulate or deceive
Harold has his own insecurities that he pushes on Shrek. He doesn't want to be turned back into a frog because he doesn't think he would be accepted for it and that's something the Fairy Godmother can use against him since she's the one who gave him his happily ever after. Fiona was easy to manipulate and deceive because it's her family doing it to her. >being willing to read to diary of someone else, going to bed without bothering to have a conversation after an argument
Shrek has never been the most polite person. Reading the diary makes sense with the insecurities he's having and the argument is a marriage struggle he needs to learn from. >being incompetent at their job (Puss)
Puss choking on a hairball is a joke about him being a cat. He's otherwise very skilled. >being awful at not getting the team discovered by the villains (Donkey causes this twice)
Donkey's an idiot and hyper. >the villain not having a bit of morality or patience (Fairy Godmother)
That's what makes her a good villain. She's a power hungry and shallow businesswoman that pampers her son and wants his and her goddaughter's life to go the way she had planned. >characters being on the right place at the right time
It's a way to get the plot forward in a short time and is not too distracting. They have decent explanations for it like the fairytale creatures watching a parody of Cops or Harold going to discuss his shady deals with the Fairy Godmother in the villains bar where good people would be too drunk to care.

That bit makes no sense to me. I don't imagine Harold hanging out with Puss at the bar telling him the whole story as to why he wants the ogre target killed. You'd think Harold would just give Puss the money, tell him the exact place and time where the ogre will be, and then leave inmediately.

>Shrek's friends being able to travel an over 700 miles distance in a few hours without transporation
Dragon was in earlier drafts of the script with them as a pegasus where she likely could have flew them there, but got cut because it was hard to hide her being pregnant. It was probably hard to write around. >Charming waiting years to go rescue Fiona for no reason
Growing up and training so he doesn't get murdered by the dragon like everyone else that tried to rescue Fiona before Shrek. >I also don't like how almost the entire film takes place in just 3 days
Minor complaint that's easy to explain by the first day setting things up, the second day getting the plot going, and the third day having all the trickery and fast paced action occur.
You don't need sincerity for it to be good if the humor is good which it is, but the film still has lots of heart. >Shrek and Fiona choosing to stay as ogres in the end instead taking the cheap beautiful way out of the already happy life they made together for the approval of others adding to the ending of the last film >Shrek wanting to get Harold's approval because of how much it means to Fiona >Harold admitting his hypocrisy towards Shrek >Fairy Godmother's defeat being from her own magic and the guy she was blackmailing >the finale utilizing every character in some way >Puss' dedication to Shrek for sparing his life after he tried to kill Shrek >explaining Fiona's backstory and why she believed she wanted a stereotypical charming prince when being rescued
Because of the message appearances don't matter and Shrek learning to be less selfish. When they decide not to stay human, Shrek asks Fiona if she wants to instead of thinking about what he wants. Shrek was uncomfortable being human, but was willing to if it made Fiona happy. Fiona tells him she wants to be with the ogre she married.
Shrek 2 focusing on Fiona's parents is kinda forced because they weren't mentioned or referenced in the first film. Even in that windmill scene where Fiona talks about her past to Donkey, she says "i was placed in a tower" instead of "my parents/family placed me in a tower".
Fiona had to come from and be the princess of somewhere and Shrek 2 was explaining where.

Fiona was uncomfortable being an ogre at first too, but chose to stay as one because she realized her appearance didn't matter. Shrek would have likely adapted to being human despite not wanting to, but Fiona didn't need that. Having them stay beautiful because of a potion made by the bad guy would have cheapened the message.

Not a fan of what Vernon and Asbury gave us in 2004
It is. Shrek 2 focusing on Fiona's parents is kinda forced because they weren't mentioned or referenced in the first film. Even in that windmill scene where Fiona talks about her past to Donkey, she says "i was placed in a tower" instead of "my parents/family placed me in a tower".

Wtf does drecky mean?

Shrek 2 focusing on Fiona's parents is kinda forced because they weren't mentioned or referenced in the first film. Even in that windmill scene where Fiona talks about her past to Donkey, she says "i was placed in a tower" instead of "my parents/family placed me in a tower".
Fiona doesn't mention Charming in that scene either.
There isn't a category for Best Panic Attack
Was this really the best Charming clothes they could design for the royal ball climax? How come Fiona didn't realize this guy wasn't Shrek? He wouldn't dress like that.
>How come Fiona didn't realize this guy wasn't Shrek?
She did think things were wrong with him.
Not enough as to ask him some questions or demand him to talk with stallion Donkey.
He would just reply with love changes people and Donkey wasn't with them.
Or poor writing in general
It's works for what it was going for. Fiona wouldn't have known what the potion would have done to Shrek nor fully grasped what's going on.
>Puss : Ah, I was just concocting this very plan. Already our minds are becoming one
>Donkey : Whoa, whoa, whoa now. Listen, if we need an expert on licking ourselves, we’ll give you a call
Shrek 2 keeps getting more crass for me. Just realized that's a joke about licking balls.
nah cats constantly lick themselves everywhere
there are lots of crass jokes, including puss literally licking his balls, but that ain't one
Kek you know your movie is good when it still gets threads on Cinemaphile more than 9 months after its theater release
It was better than anything that's come out since
Bleeding vag still get threads
You screwed up, 2003/early 2004 PDI. This model is annoying to look at.
She looks like a fairy godmother mixed with an evil businesswoman to me.
The designs in the first Shrek movies are always hideous, especially with the human characters, with no aesthetic sensibilities.
Farquaad looked fine, because his face wasn't full of unnecessary details like, say, Harold.
That bichon frise never appeared again after 2
