I couldn't enjoy this movie. Miles doesn't feel like a person/character anymore, but more so just a concept.
They balanced it better in the first movie, Miles' individuality, but his self in the sequel felt nonexistent.

They had tons of chemistry in the first movie but almost none in ATSV, because that's not what it was about. It's odd Across was being pushed as the "Miles-Gwen romance" movie when their relationship was tense and strenuous up until the very end. At this point I can't tell whether they'll end up together or not.

We did see how obsessed they are with each other, and we got to see them swing around and talk in the beginning. There's also the jealousy thing that was going between them. I guess this movie could've been a test for their relationship, but it wasn't the main focus. The Spider Society was the main focus.

It was cute to see wear his jacket.

          >At the same time, I think she was a crappy girlfriend
They were never dating. But, yeah, what she did was bad. It's kind of hilarious how horny and desperate she seems for Miles at the beginning of the movie and then she's just like "Well, I guess that's it. The death cult says I can never see him again."
          >Oh, and then I'm gonna make you watch your dad die
In her defense, Gwen wasn't too keen on dads at the time. I think she completely disconnected emotionally after her father tried to shoot/arrest her. We don't get the "real" Gwen back until she's forced back to her universe and they reconcile.

          >It's kind of hilarious how horny and desperate she seems for Miles at the beginning of the movie and then she's just like "Well, I guess that's it. The death cult says I can never see him again."
Idk if the death cult will let it slide if she tries to see him again.

Yeah. I love their dynamic. They're both obviously extremely attracted to one another but its possibly not obvious to each other, or themselves. I think the need to properly reconcile in BTSV before anything can truly happen though.

Neither of them want to admit it,. Probably out of fear of rejection and not wanting to ruin their friendship. They'll get there eventually.

              >I think the need to properly reconcile in BTSV before anything can truly happen though.
Definitely. Miles might just reject Gwen and her team at first because of a lack of trust, but he's gonna be a little desperate because he has no way home. This is assuming that Gwen's team gets to him first. BTSV is going to give some focus on Gwen and Miles repairing their relationship and Miles' relationship with some of the other Spider-Men.

                >This is assuming that Gwen's team gets to him first.
It's assuming a lot. We really have no idea how BTSV is gonna play out. Between Earth-42, reconciliation, the Spider-Council, and The Spot, there's a lot of ground to cover in the sequel.

There really is a lot that could and would happen in the BTSV. I'm sure the Spider-Council will fight Spot, but will Spot be killed, imprisoned, redeemed? Is Miles going to sympathize with him? There's also Earth-42 Miles and Aaron. is Miles-42 a villain, hero, or an anti hero in his world? I have more questions, but I can't be fricked to write them all. In your opinion, would a reconciliation between Miles and Gwen's team be better before or during the big fight?

                Anonymous

                >I'm sure the Spider-Council will fight Spot
I mean, he's kind of not their problem? It depends on which direction they go with the multiverse/canon stuff.
                >Is Miles-42 a villain, hero, or an anti hero in his world?
                Exactly.
                >In your opinion, would a reconciliation between Miles and Gwen's team be better before or during the big fight?
I guess I'd say "before," but not immediately before. Like, in the middle of the movie. The reconciliation shouldn't be super quick but it also shouldn't be something like "they reconcile, and then one of them immediately tries to sacrifice themselves".

What a moronic non-excuse, so if BTSV was a movie about Spider-Boy it'd be fine to have Miles give Bailey the "you gotta let them die" speech while Bailey is the only one who wants to save everyone from the canon events and has to fight Spot and date Gwen, even though we just saw Miles doing the opposite in this movie. Because it'd be Bailey's movie right.

I just want Miles to not cannibalize Peter, if they can make him work on his own more power to him, but as long as he's just doing whatever Pete would've done while Pete isn't allowed to so Miles can appear unique, he's worthless in my eyes.

That's not a reason to make a copycat character propped up entirely by skin color, if these movies or other Miles media were about Punk or Miguel or any other spider you could easily say they're not stepping on Peter's territories because they can handle stories Peter isn't thematically suited for, but with Miles it's literally always "the story Spider-Man would've usually had.. but he's black in this one". If Miles had been through the same circumstances as the Spider people and saw entire world's dying because of this shit like spider society has? Yes. Absolutely. Because it's a pretty realistic response to trillions of lives being deleted right before your eyes on multiple occasions. I wouldn't agree morally but I'd understand what led him there. Especially in an echo chamber of spider-person suffering and making it feel all the tragedies in his life were very much the will of the universe he had no control over.

Spider-Man doesn't become a cynic after his traumas, what is this moronic writing

                >If Miles had been through the same circumstances as the Spider people and saw entire world's dying because of this shit like spider society has
He literally saw the same thing they did, Miguel's presentation, only Miguel and Peter were there when the original universe collapse happened, everyone else got the same rundown as Miles did

Peter literally gave up being Spider-Man once just because it was too hard. And has had his fair share of low points where he's nearly completely given up. Faced with the massive and actual vey real and cruel hand of fate and the way of the universe and seeing that yeah you and all these spider-people and all the tragedies in your life is something destined to all of you and having to accept that isn't exactly far-fetched especially since as far as they all know there really is nothing they can do about it. It's not even cynicism on their part, it's just trying to make the best out of a truly awful situation. They're still saving as many people as they can, they still want to keep the worlds alive, and they don't just beat Miles up and tell him to suck it up. They understand and empathize with how he's feeling. It's just their reality isn't going to allow things to go the way they actually want them to where they can save everyone. They've tried it and it doesn't work.
                >everyone else got the same rundown as Miles did
Except most of them have gone through the tragic shit in their life and a lot of it while Miles only dealt with Peter A and Aaron's death while they've gone through much, much, much more and they've also seen and experienced the consequences of breaking canon events on the job going by Miguel's lines about their procedures to stop worlds from being deleted hasn't worked. A presentation is one thing, actually living through it is another. Miles is still just a kid and hasn't accepted the sacrifice part of being Spider-Man but he's not even immune to what they've shown and must know on some level it's the truth judging by how Peter B's words actually get through to him for a bit.

I don't know man. Forget being Peter, if I saw that any time I saved someone I wasn't supposed to and it kept killing entire dimension I don't think I'd keep actively doing the thing I know is actually killing even more innocent people. Honestly a guy doing something like that over and over again with full knowledge of the consequences of his actions and kept getting tons of innocent lives killed because he wanted to keep stubbornly, selfishly clinging to his ideals instead of accepting the reality of a situation he cannot change stops being admirable and ends up just looking like a stubborn, borderline sociopathic prick at best and that's being extremely charitable.

As far as they know, nothing really contradicts the canon event theory other than sometimes some dimensions get lucky and others don't. They did develop technology to try and stop dimensions from being deleted outright when canon events get broken so they're still trying but it's not perfect enough for them to risk everything on it.

NWH had the previous Spider-Men work together with the new one and even teach him things, Andrew saved MJ and Tobey stopped Tom from killing Norman, *he* was the flawed one that needed lessons on being Spider-Man despite being the protagonist, it can be done as long as you're writing in good faith, which this movie series didn't do.

I’d honestly go so far as to say that no way home did the multiverse better than both into and across, no way home brings in both multiversal spideys and multiversal villains while across and into are only limited to spideys, there’s also more meaningful interactions between mcu peter and the other peters than spiderverse, at least into the spiderverse. Every spidey beside peter b and miles could’ve been gotten rid of. Into the spiderverse feels like a movie that could’ve just been an old cynical peter parker being a mentor to a newly bitten miles morales without any of the multiverse shenanigans. Unlike into, accross needs the multiverse to work as a plot, yet it’s the weaker of the two with how dumb the death cult plot point is and how it ruins an entire multiverse of spideys while also nullifying uncle ben’s death by making it a constant that cannot be stopped instead of something that peter could have easily stopped. I think both into and across would be better films if they were just animated miles movie with no multiverse shenanigans. The best parts of across were arguably the spot and miles’ universe anyways.

Even in the sequel, which I enjoyed, Miles is only defined by other spider people. If it wasn’t for the existence of Miguel, Gwen, Hobie, ect, he’d still be an absolutely nothing character. If you had Miguel or Peter B in isolation without the spider universe they still work, but miles just can’t. He’s never defined himself as an individual - when you remove the spider people he just fails to be a person, or a character. The only time people liked miles is when there’s massive amounts of meta writing desperately astroturfing him

Not being with Gwen is literally good for him as a character, you should be rooting for the two of them to stay professional colleagues. Gwen is sadly beyond redemption.

This. I'd like to see them reconcile but her being willing to allow his father to die was just too much for him to get over anytime soon and they just stay friends at best.

Gwen had come to terms with allowing her own father's death along with the rest of Spider society's canon events. It's through Miles' actions that forces her to reconsider her own acquiescence to tragic events - and to likely rescue Miles, where they will reconnect, so that Miles can save his father and the multiverse from The Spot.

No he didn't. If he did, Miles dimension would've caved while Glen was wasting time with Miles and he restocked on dark matter at his apartment.
If you had watched the movie, you would've noticed that after Singh was saved, the crew noticed the collapse because the city was glitching out of existence. Which Spot can't do, even when he's at his strongest and has just killed a mob of Spiders (in the vision he shared with Miles in Mumbattan).

Gwen will be redeemed when she sides with Miles. That's literally what the final act is building towards for the next movie. There's still time for that as long as her actions do not lead to the death of Miles' father. She's already working against Miguel and broke with major protocols just to see Miles again. Their relationship, Miles and Gwen, is fk'd right now to give it more substance, up the stakes, to make it more compelling, and fulfilling when they finally happen. I'm rooting for them.

It's what makes her change. Ppl can be redeemed- especially given the work Gwen is about to put in towards defeating Miguel. Ppl are redeemable. Honestly Miles must be fricking devastated. He's completely neglected his social life between Spider-Man activities and working his ass off at school to get to Princeton just for the slightest chance of seeing his friend again and then when he's feeling the loneliest he's ever felt, here comes Gwen with this device that lets her come see him any time and there's a whole society a group of people just like him for him to belong to but then that elation is shredded to bits throughout the movie with him learning Gwen had been part of this group for months and never came to see him, her snapping at him when he tries to basically advertise himself to join the team, him over hearing her saying she'll never come see him again, then he gets Miguel shitting all over him at first, the news his father is fated to die and he's basically supposed to just let it happen and everyone including Peter and Gwen knew, then he gets his shit pushed in by Miguel physically and mentally with the revelation of him being an anomaly who was never meant to be a spider-man, that his peter's death was his fault, the mess with spot happening now and his dad's life being in jeopardy is because of him, then told he doesn't belong in this group he was so desperate to be a part of, learns that Peter and Gwen knew the whole truth the whole damn time and we never going to tell him any of this shit, THEN he fricks up his big-brain plan and goes to the wrong universe and is such a fricked mental state by this point he's fricking hallucinating while swinging, gets hit by a bus, manages to get home and work up the courage to tell his mom the truth only for it to not matter, he reunites sort of with his uncle but it's a short lived joy as he's betrayed yet again minutes later after seeing the hellhole this dimension's become since he got bit which only adds to his guilt, learns his dad fricking died in this dimension, then he gets caught by his evil self and is literally alone in a dimension. I appreciate your effort to encapsulate Miles' suffering that expands across the multiverse where all the Spider folk are against him, he's betrayed by his lover & mentor, is blamed forr killing Spider-man, accidentally falls into the one universe where he inadvertently benefits from its deterioration forced to see murals of his dead father, his mother hooking up with his uncle, & now having to defeat himself who lost everything in the process for him to become Spider-man ... in a single post.

I feel bad for Gwen and understand she was a lonely and confused teenager with nowhere to go.

At the same time, I think she was a crappy girlfriend. Miles should generally reconcile with her after she helps set things right but keep emotional and social distance forever after that.

    >Bae, I missed you SO MUCH I joined a fatalistic superhero death cult
    >I used their technology so you could fawn and simp over me all day
    >And once I get my fill of attention I'm headed back to this British guy's house (DO NOT worry about him, HE'S JUST A FRIEND)

That actually makes Miguel's point make sense. I am sure the Spider-Men in all other universes didn't have the '''main''' Spider-Man die for them to take up the mantle. They just always were the original Spider-Man.

Dude, the catalyst for all of these events is The Spot. He's the scientist that takes gd spider from Earth 42 to begin with that leads to Miles becoming the 2nd Spider-man. Plus, the King Pins collider has made the multiverse aware of itself which has its own branches & sets of consequences that aren't all canon events meaning these universes can interact w/o destroying each other.

That actually makes Miguel's point make sense. I am sure the Spider-Men in all other universes didn't have the '''main''' Spider-Man die for them to take up the mantle. They just always were the original Spider-Man.

Miles becomes an original in the process being the only Spider-man born from an alternate universe spider. Don't pretend that the multiverse isn't constantly exploited by heroes and villains that discover its existence.

The Spot's a villiain primarily because of his misplaced aggression and blame for his own tampering with the multiverse wanting revenge and/or acknowledgement. Typical villain, mad scientist shit threatening the entire multiverse for his own failures in character and actions. Honestly, it's one of the major negative outcomes of prioritizing STEM educations; this lack of ethics, moral clarity, and following moral imperatives.

How did Prowler Miles know about alternate universes instead of just assuming Spider-Miles has shape shifting powers or whatever?

I don't think he knew, he just didn't care and didn't trust Miles.

He accepted it way too easily and easily accepted the fact Spider-Miles' dad might be alive instead of questioning him on who he was, why he looks like him, etc.
Alternate universes should be a HUGE leap of logic for most people, even superheroes/villains.

          Anonymous

My guess is that enough weird shit has happened in the Earth-42 for Prowler Miles to not think that an alternate version of himself exist. Miles also might've glitched out while he unconscious.

          >I mean, he's kind of not their problem? It depends on which direction they go with the multiverse/canon stuff.
I imagine that his current power up could be a problem for the multiverse. Miguel did tell Miles that he'll worry about Spot.
          >The reconciliation shouldn't be super quick but it also shouldn't be something like "they reconcile, and then one of them immediately tries to sacrifice themselves".
I agree. They should all have enough time to talk or regroup somewhere.

Spider Death Cult it's a moronic plot point that only serves to do one thing which is paint Miles as the only true Spider-Man that's worthy of the title. Telling a memorable story with the characters isn't even in consideration, all this is to justify a looter Spider-Man as the replacement for a White Spider-Man. Even if by all accounts Miguel is in the right, it doesn't even matter because the only reason the stupid trolly problem situation even exist in the first place is to shill Miles. If the focus had been to tell an entertaining story with the characters, then the Death Cult wouldn't even be a thing.

Wouldn't it be funny if all it took to fix the universe breaking was to force Miguel to endure a similar tragedy in his life, on the presumption that he's never faced any kind of negative experience in his life ever

    >Finally reunite with your best friend
    >She and your mentor take the side of a guy who thinks your existence is a cosmic fluke
    >Helps him try to capture you in his sci-fi fortress, doesn't defend you when he beats your ass and nearly kills you
Peter B and Gwen don't have the guts to treat Miles with any real respect, but side with the guy who thinks he's irresponsible for wanting to help when they were keeping the most relevant info from him until the last moment. If they cared about responsibility, they would've doubled down like Miguel and Jessica, but they want to be friends with Miles without letting him help with a problem that he himself is at the core of. Everyone is guilty over having their cake and wanting to eat it, but at least Miles is decisive, while the others just waffle between faux-friendship and the shaky promise of multiversal stability.
The real killer is if either of them swapped places with Miles, he'd be at their side in a heartbeat; I think they knew that, Gwen especially, and that's what hurts the most out of anything. That, and the fact that their hesitation over trying to do the right thing ended up hurting him more than anything else.

Well, Peter B. saw what happened to the world where Miguel tried to start a new life so he is extremely conditioned by that. Saving Miles's father might lead to the same thing. I still believe that something else was going on in Miguel's world and he did not know about it, there is no way that his only influence would crack the world like that.
Gwen is a teenager surrounded by adults (of who she is desperately searching approval) who keep telling her that canon events MUST happen and that her father will die as well.
Miles doesn't have that influence; he just arrived, they come and tell him that his father will die and he has to let it happen. Obviously his first reaction is gigantic middle finger to them all.

In the end Gwen realizes that there could be another way and decides to help Miles, Peter B. knows that without Miles Mayday wouldn't have been born.
I agree with you, Miles wouldn't have hesitated to help them but that's because he is free and not influenced by anything and anyone else. That's what makes him special.

I think it's fascinating how worldwide audiences can just accept a redundant character existing and disrupting beloved established dynamics, simply as a racial token and literally nothing else. If Miles were white there'd be uproar in the street over how much he fricks over the core appeal of Spider-Man, it's really fascinating to watch.

I would honestly accept Miles if he was more distinct from Peter
    >Make his suit a little more thrown-together, clearly not made by a genius when it comes to stuff besides physics.
    >Far less webswinging, instead he gets around like a jumping spider who crawls on walls. Go for that freerunning style
    >Give him alternate powers. Like instead of Spider Sense he just has incredibly heightened senses that let him have a good understanding of his enviroment. Not Daredevil level, obviously.
    >Give him his own rogues gallery that's more befitting of his character
    >Less quipping, more fighting and improvisation. He's not competent or confident enough with this shit at the start to crack a single joke
