The need to justify anything comes from people claiming you did something wrong, not from actually doing it.
In contrast, many wrong things have been done and no one ever said a word, so they never gave justification. It doesn't mean they did nothing wrong.

Griffith is more moronic and autistic than Guts. It's not Guts' fault Griffith self imploded when Guts did a very normal thing and decided to go off on his own. Griffith's entire existence post-eclipse is "look at what you made do". He's basically a seething woman secretly mad that Guts didn't frick his ass.

        >1) he raped Caska to steal her fetus so he could be reborn
Why do people think this? The Egg of the Perfect World at the end of Conviction has extremely explicit in explaining he was going to be the vessel Femto was reborn via, the Demon Child is unrelated to Griffith until the Egg happened upon it. Griffith didn't plan on the Demon Child/Moonlight Boy, and there's no way it doesn't directly cause his defeat.

        t. Griffith raped himself into losing.

If Griffith was gay, Griffith could have just fricked Guts like he fricked Charlotte right there and then and Guts wouldn't have been able to stop him. Or, Griffith could have just bent over in front of Guts and had Apostles push Guts onto him to frick his ass. Even in the highest positions of power, Griffith didn't do it

A big issue was that Miura just couldn't do what he used to be able to do, likely from health issues. He switched to digital, some time around the start of the boat arc. There, his art began to slowly crumble away, as he had to relearn how to draw. He also hired helpers that he trained in his art style, to help him get chapters out faster

He must have been really sick if he needed his own acolytes to help him out with the manga. His lifestyle was less than ideal. It isn't so shocking he died fairly young

    >Bury Your Art: Chapter 83 was famously printed only in the original magazine run and not reproduced in tankoubon volume 13. This was done at Miura's request on the grounds that he decided in hindsight that the chapter defined The 'Verse's cosmology too much, and would limit his creative freedom going forward. Despite that, nothing that he wrote afterward ever actually contradicted what was revealed there.

this is almost true, but only confirmed for humans specifically, and mainly limited to the corporeal world.
non-humans and magic not derived from humans exist but their connection to mankind is being severed so the God Hand/Idea of Evil can gain full control of it.
it's why Femto is destroying all the spirit trees and non-human spirit hubs, partially why the Kushan empire was set up to be eliminated (it was a hub of ALL types of magic), why the merge of the corporeal world and astral world is so important, etc.
as it stands, non-human forces can still intervene, so it's not true determinism just yet. however, the God Hand (Void) are good enough that they plan around these interventions and their big plans have never been meaningfully thwarted, to our knowledge. true determinism is their end goal. if it was already established the story doesn't make any sense.

Even if Griffith/Femto is destroyed, what good will it do when the rest of the Godhand are up and about? What's to stop new ones from being appointed? Then the Idea of Evil has to die, which wouldn't work because mankind collectively willed it into creation

      Anonymous

you're right that it wouldn't really matter. realistically, Femto is third rung in terms of power, made to believe he's top dog, destined to rule mankind. it'd be like the vanilla ending in a From ARPG to kill him. it's also why its conveyed as selfish for Guts to focus on simple revenge.

The God Hand would have killed the Band of the Hawk anyway, Griffith accepting their offer was literally the only rational option. Also, it wasn't even 'Griffith' who raped Casca, after becoming Femto, a divine being filled with evil, his personality would have completely changed

glad to see more people acknowledge Femto != Griffith.

It makes me wonder how much of Griffith is even left anymore. Miura touched on this only briefly, when Rickert showed Griffith his old Band of the Hawk crest. Griffith sort of recognized it, but not fully, despite looking at it for years

that's what Miura's final chapter is meant to establish. the only semblance of "Griffith" left is when the corporeal form is granted emotions mid-transition from Moonlight Boy -> Femto. exploiting this will undoubtedly be part of the ending.

        Anonymous

        >Femto is granted human emotions that is completely alien to him as a demon now
        >There and gone in a moment's notice
        >Evil seeps into him once more and he's back to being an emotionless devil again

The whole moonlight boy plot just feels so convoluted and stupid. Miura should have just had Femto be the butthole not-Shin character from Black Swordsman arc, that he became after Golden Age, without all of this extra baggage

        Anonymous

I believe Miura said that Void is key to the endgame. I think we'll see some kind of infighting among the God Hand, with Void trying to ascend even further, using Femto's position among humanity to achieve this end. Then that exploitation of the MLB will come into play

          Anonymous

Having Void be the boss without having developed him as a character more will be a real letdown. Miura shouldn't have let the other Godhand go so long without doing anything if they are a major point of contention in the story. All the pirate ship and Sea God shit could have been scrapped for some Godhand backstories

          Anonymous

i agree to an extent. the theory i've been attached to is that Femto will turn against the God Hand once "Griffith" is made to realize the truth of Void's millennium scheme.
a true Griffith would recklessly lash out against manipulative authority figures, as demo'd thru the Golden Age arc, using Void's conditioning against him.
i'm not convinced there's meant to be a great sacrifice though. i'm inclined to think they just want a human farm with no competition. but the way you convey it is more believable than the other ways i've heard it described.

I think maybe 20% of people who have read Berserk are able to parse the sequence of events that led to Griffith starting the Eclipse, otherwise the difference between what people perceive him to be (gigabrained sociopath mastermind) vs what he actually is (insanely petty, spiteful c**t) is inexplicable to me. Griffith is uniquely evil because he WASN'T some ambitious ubermensch ready to achieve anything for his dream, he was straight up about to kill himself and initially rejected the offer of godhood until Guts showed up and caused him to instantly spiral into hatred and spite.

Saying that he's both is the most accurate representation of his character, but a lot of people ignore or don't seem to process the depths of his vindictiveness which is most exemplified by treating his sacrifice of the Hawk as a logical action based on obtaining power instead of one fueled by his hatred and spite for Guts. I fear it will be like when Game of Thrones ran out of book content and started going off GRRM's notes.

      >The allies had been gathered, the powers cultivated,
Bullshit. Guts' entire assembled Crew couldn't even begin to fight one of Griffith's main Apostles, even all-on-one. Isidro had learned to leap around like a monkey. Maybe e-girl-Witch could summon something that would bother one of them for a minute.
What the frick are the rest of them going to do?

The news ones picked up the story quickly but they’ve returned to Muira’s release pace after a few quicker releases
We’re back on the boat btw

No, he has an actual woman in his life (that Muira lusted after at one point). Supposedly Caska is a sort of homage to her.

nobody did anything. its a predeterministic universe where souls are just carried along for the ride by the material universe playing snooker with molecules. souls can't make decisions, only bodies can. souls merely suffer the torment caused by the consequences of those actions that they were unable to influence from within their gilded meat cages, and which they are then punished for eternally

the only good end in berserk is a gnostic cataclysm where the material plane is annihilated and all souls are able to pass beyond the influence of the demiurge to return to the spirit plane where they belong

It seems like the eggs allow people to change the course of fate and wield true free will.
Which is why skeleman made a sword out of them to kill Void.
Presumably the good end would involve destroying the evil heart thing and using the eggs to bestow free will upon the world. Freeing the world from the chains of fate and establishing spiritual balance.

Maybe that's why Miura wrote it out because there's no way to actually get rid of it, with the world Miura set up. Man created it, so it is in their interest to have. If man didn't actually want it, it would not have been born

      >predeterministic universe where souls are just carried along for the ride by the material universe playing snooker with molecules.
Literally not the case. The fate which is talked about is the result of a higher being, born from humanity, guiding humanity's course. It's not as bleak as the usual science based predeterminism.

You think the Godhand is a parallel to fame, and that in order to become famous you have to sacrifice something so dear to you if feels like a part of you dies?

Miura shit the bed by neglecting to explain the higher mysteries of the series. He brings in the Four Kings that seemingly control the major elements of the world and are the founding deities of the Holy See, yet does little with them and eventually just forgets they exist at all. How do they fit in with the Godhand? Are they opposed to them? Do they influence death in any way? None of that gets clarified for the reader

Guts should have been a QT girl, and he would have a yuri relationship with Casca, Griffith would be jealous and the series would ensue like normal. But during the eclipse while Casca is getting raped by the apostles griffith would be raping guts. Then guts would give birth to the child that griffith would eventually use to reincarnate into the real world.

Damn I should have written the series for miura

He literally succumbed to the idea of EVIL. If he did nothing wrong there would be no point to the sacrifice.
