“Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.”

How? It has no commercials, no tie ins, no huge merchandise deal, no video game promo event. Did they pay Tom Cruise 100 million dollars for that bit the stuck at the beginning of the theatrical version thanking people for seeing it in theaters?

          Anonymous

I've seen trailers for this movie in theatres the entire way through covid anon, it's basically been marketed for multiple releases. Plenty of commercials in the runup to it's release as well, pretty much the only movie I seen advertised on tv in years that wasn't Marvel. Honestly the marketing estimate seems low considering how unfortunate they were with Covid

            Anonymous

Theatrical trailers don't usually cost anything, either a studio is attaching it to their own movie, or making deals with other studios to have trailer for Movie A play on another studio's film in exchange for putting a trailer for Movie B on one of theirs.

TV slots and internet ads are what cost big money, and I've not seen a single trailer for Maverick on TV or Youtube.

Didn't she took the vaxx already or she still chimping out as usual.

            Anonymous

She got herself stuck in the UK and refused to get the vax to leave, delaying production by months to possibly a whole year. Supposedly they had to bribe her millions of dollars to get the shot (probably turned around and used that money to fake it) and to stop posting anti-vax stuff on social media

          Anonymous

          >hardcore anti-vax
It wasn't even her being anti-vax that did it. It's because she's a fricking loony who thinks vaccinations are a satanic plot because some vaccination had Luciferase in it and so obviously the antichrist is mocking Christians by telling everyone that Satan's in the 666 mark of the beast he's putting in everyone. If she'd just not taken any vaccines and kept quiet or faked things Disney wouldn't have given a shit, but nobody wants to work with that kind of schizo and once she made it into a huge public thing they had to deal with it. I'm honestly surprised they didn't just dump her.

            Anonymous

They were stuck, can her and they wouldn't have a movie anymore. Means back to the drawing board for another year of pre-production on a movie that is now effectively a Black Panther reboot.

              Anonymous

It probably needed to be delayed anyways. Boseman's death (and decision to retire the character) warranted a complete rewrite of the script. They should have just recast the character.
