Unironically virtue signaling casting, aww let's give the little moron a role!

Walt Jr was nothing more than a plot piece to establish how shitty Walt’s life was. That’s the entire first half of the first episode.
      >Dead end job teaching chemistry to teachers who absolutely did not care
      >Loveless empty marriage
      >Crippled money-drain son
      >Now he has cancer on top of everything

this, but he should've been more involved in the plot. he literally never gets a single storyline or b-plot

I think it would have been cool to have Flynn and Jesse interact at some point, especially considering Jesse is basically the stand in for Walt's kid for the whole series. But I really can't think of a great way to have Flynn get roped into the drug stuff without Walt ending up in jail or Flynn dying (which I doubt the showrunners would have done)

Another interesting plotline would've been seeing Flynn experiment with drugs. Maybe Walt hears about it off-hand and has some moral debate about the business he's found himself in, although of course he would somehow rationalise continuing with it. His own son becoming addicted to the very drugs he was creating to support his family's future would've been a far greater downfall than anything else that happened to him.

jesse taking the fall for his gifted brothers weed and telling him not to be a frickup was a moment im pretty sure they stole from a 90s weed PSA. Still kino

too soapy, and it would have distracted from the main plot

Nah, everyone can say "this is bad because it affects me now". That's cheap. Walter never sees the consequences of making and distributing drugs yet is clear as the villain due to his actions and petty and vindictive personality. That's why it works. He'd be an butthole in any context.

Yes he does, when his uncle Hank takes him to meet that methead hooker or when he gets busted trying to convince an adult to buy him and his friends beer.

His presence was effective in the beginning to further show how lame Walt’s life was with his disinterested wife, shitty jobs, and cripple son. He became less and less relevant as the show went on though.

He's only in the show to give Walter a reason to need money for MUH FAMLEE. Also for my personal entertainment. morons are funny and I like to shout DURRRRRR UHHHHHHHH DUHHHHHH over all his lines when I rewatch.

just felt bad for him. it does make it worse that Walt fricks up so much and he could just be there for his son who really cant do much. maybe it was missed opportunity if he was able bodied but he would probably just become Jesse.

    He did a good amount.
He berated his dad and called him a pussy when he had cancer.
He changed his name to upset his dad.
And he ratted on his dad when it was his mom who was stabbing Walt.

he's integral to defining walt's financial constraints and his initial motivations, and as the series goes along he becomes both an important proxy for walt's power in his marriage as well as a perspective of how Walt's actions look when you have no idea what's going on

he was basically just a symbol for much Walt's life sucked before becoming a criminal: even his son a moron cripple who probably never breed and give him grandchildren

  16. 2 weeks ago

It was to show the hopeless future or Walter. His only male heir was a cripple who would never breed and his wife didn't love or respect him. It's a driving force behind his new life of crime

How exactly did Walter lose that lab job he had when he and Skyler first bought the house? Even if he wouldn't be as rich as Gretchen and Elliot a chemistry PhD who has worked on a team that won a Nobel Prize would easily be able to get a job netting at least $200k a year.

Wonder how he spun that one to Skyler, especially since they had a little kid with cerebral palsy.

Because he was a self-destructive moron. First time Skyler b***hes about the cripple kid and as a meltdown, Walt will take that to his job place and scream that he cant be replaced and quit because they cant give him free time each monday to take to the moron to therapy or some shit.
