That's how bosses end up getting clipped, which is why Tony was.

And the people who kill those bosses also end up dead, unless they have approval from a higher authority. Exceptions like John Gotti simply survived the assassination attempt and then got a pass, and even he had a way better reason than Ritchie. That was about survival not "boo hoo the boss is mean to me"

literally who wanted to kill him at this point? also seems to risk the no families rule he talks about. the only way this would be possible is if someone in phils family was angry about phil getting killed in front of his wife, but all his crew wanted him gone at that point. sure it looks like he dies and they sure set it up like he does but why? unless chase is just a hack who went off the rails at the end, which every interview hes done seems to imply that could be the case

The rules are more like guidelines and if anything it was more just so the show didnt have children being murdered. There are only two ways out for a mob boss, which we are explicitly told early on and then see happen time and time again throughout the series. Chase was pretty hacky at times but he also spelled shit out to the viewer and chose dialogs very carefully. The way this show is presented if he went to prison the last scene would have simply been him with his family 1 last time and then the credits roll or it would have actually showed the trial. But the sudden cut to black without answers is death. This show used symbolism and foretelling quite heavily.

Vito builds the ramp that Richie had suggested he would build up to their ass and drive a lionel up in there instead.
        Was this foreshadowing?

Richie's sexual hangups are always spelled out for you, I just didn't get it until I watched this show a 2nd or 3rd time but Rich definitely seems like he was ambiguously gay. He always used sexual language towards other men, telling Chrissy and Beansie that he has a hard-on for them, the li9onel comment, sex as an act of dominant will with Janice, getting sucked off in the dark; taken together it amounts to a lot of evidence.

        Ralph

Ralph is basically Richie 2.0, a lot more bombastic, though I really liked Proval's silent but deadly portrayal of Richie. Joe Pantalone is probably a better actor but Proval is great as Richie, hard to say who the clear-cut winner is there. Maybe Ralphie because he got two seasons and showed nuance and depth of feeling a few times, I don't know.

He didn't go against Tony. He just tested waters with Albert and then, when he saw he wasn't respected enough, he reconsidered. That's why Janice kills him in part.

At least Ritchie tried to see if he could had him whack instead of just undermining him behind his back.

Tony had two choices, whack Junior or make him boss. He was backed into a corner. Ritchie wasn't backed into shit, he was just pissed off and wanted to run things, and that was it. Ritchie is much worse, since he was never in the running to be boss anyway. Even if he did kill Tony, the other guys wouldn't follow his stupid non-earning ass.

                >Tony had two choices, whack Junior or make him boss. He was backed into a corner.Ritchie wasn't backed into shit, he was just pissed off and wanted to run things, and that was it.

What? Are there no compromises? Could Tony had lived well as a capo with his uncle as boss? Tony was just as much greedy and narcisistic as Ritchie that why he did his uncle dirty instead of backing him for a price and going back into rank.

                >Ritchie is much worse, since he was never in the running to be boss anyway. Even if he did kill Tony, the other guys wouldn't follow his stupid non-earning ass.

Same shit with Tony, except Ritchie didn't do anything just floated the idea and killed it when he saw it went nowhere. Tony in the other hand just wanted to be boss but didn't had the balls or the support to kill Jr or the humility to let him be boss so he took the scheming bastard route and put his own uncle in a powerless crown while running his own parallel structure. By mob standards what Tony did is a capital offense. Even Phil references to this saying Tony is an illegitimate boss as he took his position from his own uncle. Tony killed his own family legitimacy when he split power between jr and himself, making all muddy.

This show gets better as it goes. The evidence is that most of the posts on Cinemaphile are season 6 related, followed by 5, then 3-4

Pleb tier take. Most of the posts on Cinemaphile are made by morons (like (You)), thats why they're obessed with s5 and s6, morons for some reason love Leotardo. In reality Season 1 is easily the best season and s6 is fricking hot garbage that loses all subtlety and has ridiculous tonal shifts, especially in Tony's character where he loses all complexity and just becomes a moronic butthole, when back in the early seasons he was actually complex.

The nobody could talk to Tony about business it wasnt just Richie. That's why he kept making him meet at the mall. But Rich took it personally. Its only later on that Tony starts to actually hate him. And thats largely because of Richies loud way of doing business that would surely get them all locked up.

Exactly. He had reputation from not flipping and doing his sentence and for being the old boss's brother. Other than that he was just a mad dog, he wasnt even a good earner.
