Those with low IQ will always feel short-changed by Norm.
They think "hang on, this is just a bad, unfunny comedian. I could do that!"

Not outwardly, but that's part of Stewart Lee's persona.

Twentysomething Stewart Lee (Lee & Herring era) seemed like a genuinely smug c**t. Now he's doing it for laughs.

Norm is just "more cleverer" than the usual SNL crowd, apparently? And I just don't see it.

Right, and I'm not American. Apologies for considering North Americans to be "American", I suppose. Do you know we call people from India "Asians"? They aren't even Japanese, or anything!

Yes I am mad. If Soviet exceptionalism or Chinese exceptionalism took the same place as US exceptionalism, you'd feel the same way.

"we" don't do this. maybe insecure third world losers do, but "we" call indians indian, americans american, europeans european, mexicans mexican, and south americans (which you probably are since this type of disaffected sadsack literalism seems popular down there) south american

his stand up is top tier. his talk show appearances are just street jokes with a twist and not indicative of his comedy. it's sad that most people only know his talk show jokes.

      Anonymous

His standup was his weakest format. Norm Macdonald live, Weekend Update and Late Night appearances were where he shined. He was best when he had people to play off of or something to mock, hence why his "all the stars are here" appearance was so memorable and popular

        Anonymous

also his biggest strength was his line delivery, which is why he played off of people so well. A good example of this is the Dog the Bounty Hunter segment with Dennis Miller...his line delivery is everything in that

          Anonymous

I was about to quote him from that. But, would've made it way less funny. His delivery was 90% of it all. Dennis Miller and his hack sidekick ruined a lot of it too.

If you find a random group of people and say "Hey, anyone heard of the name "Norm Macdonald", almost all will say yes.

Humor is subjective. What's not is when you do a good enough job that your name is known by most people.

And if anything else, the man was fearless. It's easy to stand behind a keyboard and make 9/11 jokes. It's an entirely different reality to do it in front of an audience. Comedians get assaulted for far less than he ever did. It takes balls.

And now that everyone is walking on eggshells because one social media post can ruin your life, he's missed more than other.

The man sacrificed his cushy dream in SNL just to make more OJ jokes after NBC's VP seethed at him and demanded he stop because he was friends with OJ. That alone makes him based.

Love that video. Best Norm moments were always during times of his hidden righteous indignation over censorship of jokes and feeding off the anger and discomfort, as well as the laughs, it caused when he kept teasing the subject or the censorship itself.
