His standup was his weakest format. Norm Macdonald live, Weekend Update and Late Night appearances were where he shined. He was best when he had people to play off of or something to mock, hence why his "all the stars are here" appearance was so memorable and popular
also his biggest strength was his line delivery, which is why he played off of people so well. A good example of this is the Dog the Bounty Hunter segment with Dennis Miller...his line delivery is everything in that
