As opposed to non-fictional science fiction movies?
I'm fine with not thinking about something, it's just the movie spends time discussing the actual science behind the fiction so it felt unfinished. It's based on a book and I have to wonder if it doesn't go into more detail about all that.
if it matters I think it does go into it in the book a bit more and yes more things just straight up die, I just think its a neat concept that obviously has no remote basis in reality because anything like that would kill a person just like radioactivity would kill people not give super powers
the book goes into far more detail but the movie takes liberties and is not strictly directly based on the book. things do die, but mostly they change in far more abstract ways than the movie shows. you sort of see it with josie turning into a plant
>it's just the movie spends time discussing the actual science behind the fiction
Its only talked about surface level shit here and there and what they theorize, the characters arent sure themselfs.
lol yeah that was moronic
Black person aside, thats part of her motivation to get in the shimmer, she felt guilty for cheating on him, and with a Black person !
It sounded truly alien though, I mean I picture alien music being some kind of repetitive psychedelic organic drone that has yet to be heard by human ears but it sounded bizarre thats for sure
the doppeleganger scene elicits a sensation of the bizarre and unknown that very few other movies have come close too, Space Odyssey being one of them.
In the books everything is left vague. You get characters spitballing but no definite purpose, agenda, or origin. Its strongly implied that its all some unknowable eldritch form of communication. Like instead of saying hello, it interacts by turning people into pigs and fusing dogs with trees. There is a part where a character "sees" this happen on many worlds, but then a purely outer space origin sort of fricks with the lighthouse lens narrative.
This scene is straight out of Book of the New Sun (Sword of the Lictor to be exact), and doesn’t appear in the original novel that the movie was based on. Very unusual type of plagiarism.
Terrible movie with a shitty ''message'' that is in your face from the second the movie starts.
Hershlag fricks a Black person minutes in the movie and then teams up with a bunch of ''badass'' women to go into zone where space radiation has given cancer to a bunch of animals and the characters keep bringing up cancer and how characters they knew died of cancer while listening to lectures about cancer and showing footage of cancer cells. Real subtle, bro.
Nothing interesting in the movie happens, just cancer exposition, sex with a Black person, feminist team talking shit, walk around looking at weird scenery, attacked by a bear and then 2deep5u ending with a weird alien thing that mimics your movement.
For some reason they only showed the face of the bear for a split second, its impossible to see it but the head of the woman its killed is part of its head.
Dont know why they decided to not show it in the movie, in the behind the scenes and shit its clearly shown in light and pretty big.
This shit really creeped me out, I was surprised. I veery rarely get creeped by anything in movies nowadays, and especially from something as lame as a bear, but this did it for me. Dunno if it was the vague human parts you could see or the creepy voice/sounds that it made, but easily the most remarkable monster in a movie in the last 5 or so years.
Great sound design in that flick in general
the bear scene is more scary on a surface level but the alien clone scene is much scarier when you really stew on it, fricked me up on the rewatch of all things
>nice trips, I personally love that aspect of Cinemaphile cause it means lurkers have to put in some effort to use their brains or at least reverse image search
because I hate people that expect to be spoonfed and admire self reliance, I learned how to navigate this sight and recognize culture/media and I can't be bothered to always hold people's hand
You let me violate you

I want to frick you like an animal
I want to feel you from the inside
I want to frick you like an animal
My whole existence is flawed
You get me closer to god
You can have my isolation
You can have the hate that it brings
You can have my absence of faith
You can have my everything
Help me, tear down my reason
Help me, it's your sex I can smell
Help me, you make me perfect
Help me become somebody else
I want to frick you like an animal
I want to feel you from the inside
I want to frick you like an animal
My whole existence is flawed
You get me closer to god
Through every forest, above the trees
Within my stomach, scraped off my knees
I drink the honey inside your hive
You are the reason I stay alive
Through every forest, above the trees
Within my stomach, scraped off my knees
I drink the honey inside your hive
You are the reason I stay alive
>asks for help
>no one helps
Maybe the real monstrous mutation was their loss of compassion
I want to frick you like an animal

Why was Padmé so scared
Wouldn't most stuff just start dying of cancer? Also why did the white phosphorus cause the field of refraction to fail?
fictional scifi movie
it had a tremendous atmospheric crescendo and both the bear and lighthouse scenes are some of the best I've seen in scifi in the 2010s

But like everyone died in the movie dude.

Fire cleanses. The scene of her fricking a black guy for no reason completely ruined the movie for me kek
I think they had to add it by contract when netflix joined production
lol yeah that was moronic
Black person aside, thats part of her motivation to get in the shimmer, she felt guilty for cheating on him, and with a Black person !
>it's moronic because cheating doesn't happen
fake news
This movie sucked ass
*unearthly electronic droning*
>me on the left and right
The aliens had shit taste in music.
It sounded truly alien though, I mean I picture alien music being some kind of repetitive psychedelic organic drone that has yet to be heard by human ears but it sounded bizarre thats for sure
This was the ultimate woman moment in the movie.
She just totally flipped out and destroyed what could have been humanity's savior.
The alien is a cancer allegory you moron
Who in the frick would want some refracting mirror alien shitting up their planet, you gonna let the fricking thing move in next door?
what if you tried fricking it?
That would be hot as frick if the alien decided to grow a huge horse wiener
It's behind me isn't it?
Good soundtrack

so let me get this straight, the shimmer thing was sent by aliens to destroy earth huh?
I thought the shimmer was just an extension of some type of living being and it was trying to survive and take form ultimately via the doppelganger
Didn't they say in the movie that it didn't have a purpose? Maybe it wasn't intelligently designed.
It was just part of nature, it wasnt malevolent it just did
i havent seen the movie but in the book iirc aliens sent it to destroy the planet so they could terraform it. someone correct me if im wrong.

As much as I hate to say it, its Lovecraftian.
Garland just wanted to adapt the Color out of Space no?

The alzabo is truly a nightmare
the part where that chick gets her jaw/throat ripped out is really unsettling.
lol
Thats the tamest part of the movie
damn dude you're such a badass
I want to put my penis in the human skull.
Horrid film but that scene really sticks out.

>Black person sex is seen as a bad thing by everyone in the movie
>Badass female team is last hope because all of the capable men have died
They got the BlackRock money but did it in the most based way imaginable
For some reason they only showed the face of the bear for a split second, its impossible to see it but the head of the woman its killed is part of its head.

this, i don't even like looking at it on my monitor screen at night time rn
no
Electronic soundtracks are scarier than orchestral
The only legitimately scary part of the whole movie.
The alien scene was scarier
the bear scene is more scary on a surface level but the alien clone scene is much scarier when you really stew on it, fricked me up on the rewatch of all things
I hate how we're 60 posts in and not a single homosexual ITT has said the title of the movie.
