        >yes, Spider-Man in general is one of Sony's most profitable franchise
Including Spider-Verse! Just, you know, on a MUCH smaller scale than Spider-Man. Seeing as we've never had a Spider-Man movie go beneath 700 million until Miles came along, and this latest jaunt is looking to come in about 2-300 million under that as well, I can't imagine any sane company would seriously consider removing a surefire bank for someone with such tepid reception.

Then again this is Sony so look forwards to them crashing and burning the franchise AGAIN and wondering how it all went wrong, AGAIN. Round 4 baby lets go!

live action is a different beast than animation. There are tons of normies who don't watch cartoons that will see a black Spiderman and be like WTF.

I think a live action Miles would bomb badly.

Remember when everyone on Cinemaphile was convinced Black Panther was going to bomb? Twice?
It probably won't surpass thre other spidey films but it'd do fine. Probably better than ASM2.

          Anonymous

The only way it would even come close to ASM2, which is already more than double the first Spider-Verse and about 300-250 more than the sequel is projected to make, is if they don't kill off Peter. Face it, every single time they kill off a beloved character for a replacement, it craters in the second week and has 0 legs. This has happened every single time, including your own example of Black Panther 2, and that one wasn't even something they could fix, he was dead for reals and it still had terrible legs especially compared to the first. Even Star Wars, the previously most bulletproof franchise, wasn't safe from a still to this day legendary drop when they killed off Luke in the second movie. If Star Wars can't keep itself from a 152 million second weekend drop and overall 732 million sequel drop, there's no way Spider-Man would survive killing off Tom for Miles, there's just never been a time when it worked.

Miles audience is a group of young Latinx and urban white sois, as well as young kids who are the market for standard animated movies. There was no big general public mass appeal.

On top of that, he had to be heavily propped up by the pre-existing Spiderman brand to carry him, which brought a lot of those demographics to begin with (like Hispanics and Mario).

On top of ALL of that - despite the hip-hop, despite the graffiti, despite the articles talking about Miles being important for Afro-latino representation, despite the heavy outreach to black celebrities - Miles couldn't spike black turnout.

Miles entire concept is trash. He has to either replace Peter as spider-man, he has to compete with Peter as his sidekick while Peter himself is still a young hero, or he has to be mentored by an older Peter while competing with his daughter mayday for the spot of his heir.

Miles literally cannot exist. To exist, he has to damage something about Peter or Spider-Man at his own expense.

If you make miles independent, then this is already different from being entirely dependent on Peter, which is the only reason he can exist. If he exists on his own why not just make Peter anyway? Miles doesn’t have any stories to adapt and any new stories is jsut meta shit involving Peter or the spider verse. You literally can’t do anything with thin.

    >When MCU is going hot
WHERE IS OUR MILES MORALES MOVIE, DONALD GLOVER SHOULD BE MILES
    >When MCU is crashing and burning
    KEEP MILES AWAY FROM IT

This is all forgetting that Miles was only made as lovable as he is by spider-verse.

He's not even lovable, people are mistaking the distracting animation and the rich mythos that bends around him to make him look good for actual character traits, he doesn't bring any of that with him, look how boring he is in the game

Watching people try to pretend that Miles is a compelling character in the Insomniac games is fricking hysterical because he has /nothing/ going on. He is inferior to Peter in every way but they insist on pushing him as the next Spider-Man.

I wouldn't put it like that.
It's more like Marvel doesn't deserve Phil and Lord.

Especially after what happened with Solo.

The people who fricked the Spider-Man IP beyond repair to push the Poochie?

        Anonymous

No, Marvel killed him since the 90's because of their obsession to make Peter "relatable" and put him in a state of arrested development.
It feels like the people who hate Spiderverse the most are people projecting the fact that Spiderman has been a never ending stream of shit since the Clone Saga and only gotten downhill from there and are now mad Miles is getting such good reception.

Don't blame Phile and Lord, blame the hacks in Marvel.

Clone Saga is still better than any Miles story though

            >never ending stream of shit since the Clone Saga and only gotten downhill from there
Yeah, a lot of things are. I just wrote that.
At the end of the day nobody gives a shit about comics and for good fricking reason. When people say they want "more Miles" what they mean is "More Spiderverse Miles". And as hard as you seethe the two Spiderverse movies are immensely better than a good chunk of Spidey and really Marvel comics the past two and a half decades.

Nah we've been getting quality Spider-Man media since the 90s despite Marvel's best efforts to kill him off, Lord and Miller placing the spotlight on Poochie-Man and using the multiverse to excuse him raised the stakes beyond what Spider-Man should be and now there's no going back since every Spider-Man creator wants the woke cred they got for Spider-Verse

Do you know how businesses work? All businesses need loans to meet their overhead until money comes in and Black Rock is literally the largest financier in the world. They created ESG to determine how a company qualifies for loans

Yes, hedge funds invest in companies. They give loans expecting it back. If they don't think they can pay it back they won't give it, or expect to own more of the company if defaulting on loans. Still no proof about how these companies are given blank checks. This is why Cinemaphile despises /misc/.
