They seem to think the game is trying to push some sort of feminist message through Abby, portraying her as an empowered woman who is in the right for killing Joel for being an oppressive white man, but the whole point of Abby's arc is that she has become an evil person who has lost her ways and only starts to change when she kills Joel in such a brutal manner (after he saved her life on top of it) that she can no longer deal with the guilt of all the terrible things she has done. She's not supposed to be a role model by any means. And on the other hand Joel is incredibly idealized through the entire game. He's portrayed as nothing but the perfect dad figure.

She even carries Lev at the end in the same way Joel carried Ellie at the end of the first game. The game it's not subtle about its themes. I don't understand why people have such a hard time grasping them.

They seem to think the game is trying to push some sort of feminist message through Abby, portraying her as an empowered woman who is in the right for killing Joel for being an oppressive white man, but the whole point of Abby's arc is that she has become an evil person who has lost her ways and only starts to change when she kills Joel in such a brutal manner (after he saved her life on top of it) that she can no longer deal with the guilt of all the terrible things she has done. She's not supposed to be a role model by any means. And on the other hand Joel is incredibly idealized through the entire game. He's portrayed as nothing but the perfect dad figure.

I can't blame them for having prejudices against the game and Druckman, because before I played it I assumed it was going to be shit too, but I can't respect people who are still whining years later about a game they never bothered to play. The game has issues for sure and the diversity is frankly silly. Almost every character is a minority of some sort, but the game never falls into white men = bad, minorities and women = good. If anything it was kind of the opposite. Joel and Owen were some of the few somewhat moral characters in the game.
