I had to take some humanities classes in uni for extra credit and I will never accept the concept that all cultures are equal, they aren't. You can't convince me people who live in twig huts and practice cannibalism have a culture equal to europeans. i'm sorry.

No one makes that argument, even when you get into metaethics or moral relativism. Maybe you need to retake those courses.

My study material was saying that, it literally spelled that "All cultures are equal to each other, they may be different but it doesn't mean one is better"
Which is bullshit, i'm so sorry but if you are a cannibal and lives in a mudhut your culture is not as equal as, I don't know, spanish culture for example?

          Leave it be.
The US are too far gone up their own asses.
Lately they've developed an inferiority complex to European and call you a pseud if you point out that auteur cinema like Godard or German is better than mass entertainment shlock like Spielberg movies or Star Wars.
And those are the conservative types. The rest has fully embraced nog culture.

to be fair though, you can only judge 'better' or 'worse' if you pick an ultimately arbitrary metric with which to compare them. the metric you choose, since you're living in this particular system, is obviously going to be biased and self confirmatory. if you spoke to a member of the opposing culture, they would also have a wholly different benchmark of what makes them 'better'. at the end of the day, all cultures are equal in a universal timeless sense. 'better' and 'worse' is baby language though and you're asking for trouble. be more specific and you can get away with murder if you're smart. "though the cultures are of equal value in a universal sense, there is significant evidence to suggest western nations have overwhelmingly fewer instances of cannibalism". when you generalise you are asking to be hung in the court of puplic appeal

Here's a better metric, ability to survive in conflict. If I wanted to get 20 men and some rifles, I could probably wipe them all out. That's better. Anything to the contrary is cope.

              Anonymous

define conflict define survive, anyway again this is your own subjective view of what should be valued in a society.. try again Black person. a member of a cannibal tribe of warriors would kill you in a fight. or do you mean the ability of other people in your system to do your dirty work for you?

That is the exact type of double speak bullshit social studies people use. Entry level courses always distill the message to binary and that is the means with which your homosexual discipline interacts with the majority of people and how it most directly impacts society. But whenever someone criticizes that messaging the retort is that the source material has more nuance in the discussion section.

Im on the same page. I took an anthropology class in college to satisfy a prerequisite. I only held my tongue at first because my professor was kind of hot, mid 30s blonde with big breasts and a thicc ass, I saw her at the campus gym a few times on off hours and nearly blew a load in my pants. Anyways I’m not even racist but like how are a bunch of people running around in the jungle with sticks and wood huts in modern times on the same level as ancient Mediterranean and west Asian civilizations thousands of years ago? Let alone modern culture. We were discussing how great the “people” in Papua New Guinea were and how vibrant their culture is (they are literally uncivilized cannibals btw) and I snapped and said how bs it all was and how some cultures are clearly superior to others like what I explained above. Well my professor told me to see her in office hours after class to discuss my bigotry.

I go into office hours and she berates me for a few minutes and then comes onto me and starts stripping and making out with me. I fricked the shit out of her on her desk and came inside her twice. No idea what happened. She just cleaned up and told me not to mention this to anyone or I would fail the class

She was pregnant the next semester but she ignored me and walked away whenever I tried to speak with her so who knows

imagine a tribal homie from new guinea witnessing what we do to animals en masse in slaughterhouses, i'm sure he would marvel at our superior nuanced sense of morality

yeah no, tribal peoples torture animals & humans for fun.

don't you think our prison system is torturous? that the state can take away your freedom years and years and coop you up in horrible conditions? isnt wage slavery torture for most? wage slavery exists because the economic system our civilisations are built upon requires it to function. also the scale of our own animal cruelty and slaughter is incomprehensibly larger by pure numbers alone because our civilisation demands exponential growth. think about how much ecological destruction we have wrought the world over compared to how we operated just 500 years ago. the human population was fraction of what it is now. tribal homies aren't saints and we're not much better in a collective wholistic sense.

nta but the difference is whether you're doing it personally like a sadistic psycho

are you suggesting there aren't sadistic psychos in our own societies? or that our own culture can't turn someone into a sadistic psycho? I'm not defending tribal people, I'm simply refusing to defend our own culture.

good, i won't defend it either, but indifference towards prison or farming systems isn't the same as personally torturing animals and humans. you sounded like you were trying to compare the two for some reason.

            >“The youngster had speared [the sindula] with his first thrust, pinning the animal to the ground through the fleshy part of the stomach. But the animal was still very much alive, fighting for freedom. Maipe put another spear into its neck, but it still writhed and fought. Not until a third spear pierced its heart did it give up the struggle...
            >“The pygmies stood around in an excited group, pointing at the dying animal and laughing. One boy, about nine years old, threw himself on the ground and curled up in a grotesque heap and imitated the sindula’s last convulsions...
            >“At other times I have seen Pygmies singeing feathers off birds that were still alive, explaining that the meat is more tender if death comes slowly. And the hunting dogs, valuable as they are, get kicked around mercilessly from the day they are born to the day they die.”

The MCU is a relatively new phenomenon so it’s unfamiliar, but each film follows the exact same narrative and aesthetic conventions making it conventional
