The episode has Spock changed to 100% human as the result of an accident and he is going through a sort of overload of hormones and emotions. So in this episode he is not Vulkan until the end when they change him back.
in TNG vulcans are biologically more emotional but they master it mentally, so becoming human would actually be easy mode

I just don't understand why they can't make a good Star Trek show. The show is already fricking progressive and it ALWAYS has been. Legit it's so annoying, there is such a wealth of content to draw on, a massive universe that would be any writer's dream, a blank canvas to explore any idea. Almost ANYTHING is possible in Star Trek, it is literally an infinite universe. I have so many ideas for great Star Trek shows or episodes, and yet THIS is what we get. A rehash of a rehash of a rehash, a character that has been portrayed and acted better multiple times, the same fricking TOS era (completely mangled) and then shit like this. It's just so imbecilic. I hope these stupid fricking writers stay on strike and the studios bring in competent people, which obviously is not going to happen but a man can dream. As soon as you hand over a script for an episode a dozen people would go over it and make changes and have you explain everything and start telling you what has to be changed because this scene costs too much money to make and that scene focuses too much on a character thawt the focus groups don't like and that actor has some contract thing that they don't film fight scenes because of some shoulder injury so they can't do fake punches. And so on. And that's just assuming you wrote it all by yourself rather than had to brainstorm the entire thing with ten other guys in a shitty writers room office where every idea you have is shot down by someone who is only working on the show because they got a job via a friend. It isn't like the old pulp magazine days where writers hammered out everything by themselves in some shitty studio apartment. When you someone being credited with writing an episode, that's mostly just a courtesy to the person who contributed the most of the episode, hardly anyone writes everything on their own anymore.
There's even a shorthand in crediting. "X&Y" wrote it together contemporaneously, whereas "X and Y" is Y revising X after the fact.
Besides the anti-life woke shit and Kurtzman/Abrams hatred of nerds, geeks, and Trek fans in general, there is the toxic legacy of the Abrams reboot and DS9, plus everyone fricking taking the wrong lessons from why Voyager and Enterprise underperformed.
The Abrams films made money, making people think that there was still a market for people wanting shows with the original cast during their time period. This is big as there are a lot of suits that think Trek can only be the original show, consider Next Generation a fluke, and DS9/VOY/ENT failures.
Meanwhile, you have a generation of people who obsess over DS9 for being "the anti-Trek" show and want, damn the consequences, to warp all future versions of Trek to be dark and edgy and serialized like DS9 were and who think Section 31 was the most important addition to Star Trek lore and wanted more of it.
Finally, besides the obvious issues of why Enterprise and Voyager failed creatively, TPTB refuse point blank that putting them on Paramount's privately owned TV network UPN (which didn't have nation-wide availability and which didn't achieve said nation-wide availability until it died merging with the WB) limited the show's audience big time. Putting the shows on a third rate streaming website crippled their ability to get people to watch them.
Your hatred of ds9 is weird it is pure trek and this blizzard attempt to distance it from the others, e.g. TOS and TNG, is and always will be bizzare, it's this weird VOY fandom that has to try and one up DS9 even though it doesn't need to be it was never insecure about what it was, unlike VOY and ENT. DS9's toxic legacy can't be stressed enough. It attracted the wrong type of casual fan, who hate Trek but are drawn to DS9 because of all of the ways it was dark and edgy and "anti-Trek" and how it was strengthened/made into a martyr partly because of how Berman essentially said "that was nice, but we are NEVER fricking doing that again..." with regards to Voyager and Enterprise being a more traditional Trek and how fans justified their hatred for Berman for how he caved on that mandate after making it via Enterprise when Berman's preferred vision (IE Next Gen lite) failed with Enterprise and the show had to retool.
DS9 brought in non-Trek fans who want dark and edgy shit; the same frickers who mainstreamed the whole "anti-Wesley" shit online without actually watching an episode of Next Gen and who's knowledge of OG Trek is a combination of "Wrath of Khan" and vague knowledge that Kirk and Uhura once kissed back when interracial kissing could get you killed.

I do get your point about people taking the wrong message about DS9, but it's a "subversion" of Trek done with respect, reverence, and understanding of what makes Trek beautiful. People just focus on the "dark" aspect of it while forgetting that DS9 never showed anyone's eyes getting gouged out or had admirals telling one of their most decorated officers to "shut the frick up". There was tons of goofy shit in DS9, like a whole baseball game episode and Miles and Julian's bromance and Vic Fontaine. It also wasn't purely serialized. It was written by actually competent writers too.
