More than anything for me it's the fact the actress is ugly as frick not that she's black because if they had a cute black girl, and there are many, have the role it's fine. But at the same time I also don't really ever want a 1 to 1 adaptation of something into another form of media. I want some sort of differences considering it's a completely different medium. Casting is actually a fine reason to complain. But I really don't mind they have to deal with copyright issues by using in universe responses. This is literally the least egregious thing the show has already been confirmed of doing. If anything I like gender swap of John in general as an idea cuz it's hot. I like adaptions to expand on the thing I like, but the cast has to look like the thing it's adapting. It's the easiest fricking thing to do. For Sandman it's even more annoying because the Endless are shaped by those who perceive them. I would have preferred if they change the actors for each locale and only have a 'main cast' in the Dreaming/The residence of the Endless
That said Death is the ONLY endless that looked the same in every scene she was in. So it's moronic that she's the one getting race swapped. The only reason they did this is because everyone agrees Death is the best part of Sandman.

And I honestly think it comes down to age. She looks old if not mature. Like I said earlier I wouldn't mind as much if they had a younger more attractive black woman play her. It would still be full of seething people but i wouldn't be mad. But they chose not only a raceswap which always has controversy, they picked an actress who literally looks too old for the role. By all means hire the woman for something if they love her, but not for this role.

Hey dumbass, Neil doesn’t own Constantine’s rights, he was a guest star just like JLI. Neil’s ownership and copyright rights extend to original characters created within the pages of Sandman. Hence characters such as Destiny, Cain and Abel, etc. aren’t owned by Neil, because they originated from other DC comics, but DC has no problem allowing them to be used in small capacity because their copyrights aren’t worth anything on their own. John Constantine has his own HBO show in development and for obvious purposes wants it to be treated as its own separate thing and thus an embargo so there aren’t confusion when they cast someone else.
