He's not even the only black actor in that 2 minute trailer so you can't even dismiss it as a weird one-off. It wouldn't break my brain if they said he was just some anti-colonial activist invited to study at Moscow (like Ho Chi Minh), but instead they show black bellhops, staff, etc. in this fricking Moscow hotel.
It’s almost funny how a fantasy series with vaguely asian-inspired aesthetics must have 100% asian (and, for some reason, native american) actors, but a story that takes place in a real world white country a 100 years ago must absolutely look like a Benetton ad.
Everyone here complaining about black people but all I could think is how much they failed to nail the setting. Everything about the way the characters speak just screams modernity.
I havn't read the book yet, but I think the main character will die in his room.
