You just have to realize a lot of the stuff from the anime isn’t necessary to tell the story or explore the themes. Like the school, Shinji living with Misato, etc the hedgehogs Dilemma is something you could easily explore while having the kids locked in NERV. I Astor feel you can break the story down into different beats so you can hit all the emotional highs the anime had. Even changing the setting to america wouldn’t be that far fetched since we know there’s a NERV base in Arizona. If someone cares about the source material it could be done. Maybe with 2 or 3 movies

I have this feeling of dread that the casting of one of the stranger things kids is inevitable if this comes through. If that's the case, just cast the red head as Asuka or something.
I feel like you'd have to age the main 3 up to be at least 17-19 (played actors in their early 20s), I don't trust any kid actor to be able to portray the Hedgehog dilemma in a way that's either believable or engrossing
There is a world where you could come up with a decent cast though, but I think it would require digging for some lesser-known actors, since you couldn't just get someone famous like Anya-Taylor Joy to be Rei and call it a day without totally compromising the tone of the story, there's a specific look they all have that ties into their characterization

They tried doing that, anon. It's called Rebuild and it massacred the character development from the series.
The other guy is right. Bebop I will grant you, since the episodes revolve almost entirely around side characters, and the stories often have minimal impact on the crew.
But the Eva episodes all revolve around the core characters, or provide necessary context to the viewer. For example, the first episode I can feasibly imagine as "filler" is the one with Jet-Alone (ep 7), since the robot doesn't factor into anything later on. But it establishes:
- Misato's willingness to put her own life on the line (not just the pilots under her command), and that she acts out of personal drive whereas everyone at the JA company and the Japanese government are bogged down by bureaucracy even in critical situations (learned nothing after Second Impact).
- that NERV's operating budget is leading to pockets of global starvation, because so much of the world's money is being poured into the Eva project. You understand that Shinji's fricking around is essentially spitting in the face of people going without enough food to eat, and NERV is resented by people outside of it.
- Ritsuko and Gendo are up to shifty things (which comes up in the next episode as well, but this episode shows that they are willing to sabotage efforts that seem like they could genuinely aid humanity's survival for unknown reasons). Misato is explicitly not kept informed of these activities.
If you skipped it, you wouldn't have strong reason to suspect Ritsuko/NERV until much later, you wouldn't understand how NERV fits into the world outside of Tokyo-3, and you would miss a major piece of Misato building character outside of how she relates to Shinji.

Hollywood can't into bad endings. I really can't imagine them pulling an adaptation of GitS without absolutely butchering the ending, which is like 80% what makes this show good in the first place.
Anyways, I'm not looking forward watching the adventures of israeli Shinji, Black Kaji, Latina Misato and trans Rei either.

I liked the Rebuilds.
I do too, but only as a companion piece. They do not hold up on their own, and are significantly less substantial than the original series and EoE. They are a "what if...?", a reflection, and a goodbye.
Thats how I view it too.
I third this. I appreciated the closure, but it didn't have much more to say than "I'm moving on, these characters are moving on, you should too."

I hate hollywood casting character with actors 2x their age. There is no reason to remake this show live action in the first place. Zero of its appeal is improved in any way by doing so.
I think a trilogy would be the best thing we can do with it.
