Why can he not just stay retired?

The Boy and the Heron was supposed to be his big final film that he should be thankful was even able to happen at all. He's just gonna die and have the film be unfinished to be fricked up by some other hack because Ghibli refuses to train up younger talent and every other attempt at a new talent (Goro, that Arrietty guy) has been underwhelming.

He's made his "big final film" like 5 times now.

Earwig and the Witch was so underwhelming it felt tragic. Ghibli's first 3D animated movie and it fell so short of even other 3D movies out of Japan like Lupin, at least on a technical level. They should have spent a few more years building up their technology and training their staff even if it meant having to loan them out to Western studios to get the experience they needed. It looked cheap, like an in-game cutscene from a video game, and for a studio with as prestigious a reputation as Ghibli that was potentially a deathblow to future attempts at 3D content.

Maybe it's for the best in the end though, because Ghibli has long been the last refuge for high quality 2D animation with a global audience. Although given their difficulty in replacing Miyazaki I'm not sure what comes next in that regard either.

Actually, you can stop him Toshio. All you need to do is say, "interesting concept, but we are not funding it. Have a good afternoon, Hayao."

anon mentions trannies out of literally nowhere even though this is a theme not anywhere in any miyazaki flick, he has a mind parasite, he's an ayn rand libertarian who wants the shared nature to be destroyed for the profits of a few. At least they are fellow white men like elon musk and bill gates let's go!

all of his flicks are about japanese people you incelibate.

Also what happened to white aryans being woden worshipping ancestral forest people? If you knew anything about white people you would know ancient germanics literally worshipped a tree you israelite worshipper.

          >mm yes capitalism destroying our limited nature for profits how volkisch

This isn't a race issue you total autist.

I would say Shinkai just makes the same movie over and over but then again that's kinda what Miyazaki does too.

Why are Jap directors so narrow in range?

miyazaki has atleast 3-4 movies he makes over and over. testicle racoons fighting suburbs is different than e-girl girl adventure story or pig war hero.

This homie alone disproves that. Japanese directors aren't really much different than most western directors in terms of range. The vast majority of directors stick to their style and "thing" with a few outliers.

A movie about a deranged animator obsessed with making his movie against the wishes of the studio could make for a great comedy or horror or drama.
