Most Cody self inserters were kids when world tour was airing (also a decent amount were probably really introduced the series in world tour) so scrawny white boy is just the easiest thing to self insert as since a lot of them didn’t look gross yet Harold’s an outdated geek stereotype by design and nobody wants to Ezekiel

personally I figure it's because his canon interactions with the girl cast members are generally positive or at least neutral, also of the gen 1 male campers he's probably the one that had the best balance of "decent amount of screen time/fleshed out personality" and "suffered the least fladerization and/or character derailment"
basically I imagine if Trent hadn't gotten derailed so hard during Action or DJ's being a wuss and mama's boy hadn't gotten so overused and emphasized during Action & World Tour one of them would probably have ended up the fandom's top choice for this sort of thing
i guess there's a lot of former small brunette boys that like cartoons out there. i considered submitting myself for the total drama doppleganger contest as cody as a kid but figured i was too young/couldn't afford to cosplay at the time
