I think it's not that be can make industry standard cartoons. I think the big deal here, with Joe, is that he's essentially been robbed by a closed industry that feeds on talented people, but is directed by parasites doing the feeding.
With Hirsch, Vivzie, etc., they had alot of good breaks, and pre-existing money to fall back on. That's opposed to the OG Newgrounds and YT animators, who were flying by the seat of their pants, praying something good would happen like a magical industry hand plucking them out of poverty. But the industry doesn't work that way.
Joe, OneyNG, EgoRaptor, etc. were churning out material that was a critical part of many people's childhoods, and is much beloved to this day. And in no way in hell does that translate to real money. Youtube, Disney, Universal, Amazon, all have zero problem with using sweatshops in third world countries to make merch and fuels paycheck for the execs. Joe and many others eventually find out their entire careers are a card game, and the vast bulk will become bankrupt and have to go to 9 to 5 jobs to pay bills.

I’m going to guess and say he’s soured his personality by doubling down on the idea of independence and his choice to turn down a very agreeable huge Disney deal, to a point where Danielle realized, as a woman, that this increasingly sour man was a destructive to both their career and potential family partnership, and she moved on to other things, driving Joe deeper into anger and tripling down, forcing him to overvalue his sense of independence against the lost opportunity of marriage and career success with Disney, leading him to take on increasingly inflammatory beliefs and behaviors, in order to make the most of the insubordination he’d allied with, and to express an increasing real anger he has at what seems to be a ruined life. Danielle was non-binary and used they/them pronouns, so I have a hard time believing she wanted a family or any traditional feminine stuff. Still, the thought of her singing When Love is Gone from Muppet Christmas Carol to Scrooge amuses me.
