Rusty was either an actual genius who was just too lazy to apply himself and crippled by living in the shadow of his more-exceptional father, or he was a complete moron who only made it seem like he knew literally anything by passing off mostly-finished work of his father's he found lying unused in a basement somewhere, it changed from episode to episode based on plot demands. And honestly that's fine, it worked for the show's humor.
It's the Dan Hibiki problem. Rusty is a genius but in a world/field of even smarter people than himself. Coupled with his emotional problems.

Right, but then you have shit like when Hank got exposed to goliath serum and Rusty apparently led the charge in inventing ranch dressing to cure it. Assuming Richard wasn't just lying to be a dick (kek), that was an example of when Rusty is just an incompetent moron. His actual intelligence was always tied to the particular episode's plot, and I have no issue with that.

Sally called Richard out on this, which made me think he actually was lying and trying to downplay Rusty's accomplishment.
Sally in that episode isn't really a reliable source to rely on, since she was delusional enough to see Rusty as a savior who was going to whisk her away to a better life. She was very clearly latching onto him and building him up in her head to cope with her situation.
As much as Richard was clearly an butthole, I still think his take on the situation is the more likely one in that particular instance, especially since they make it very clear that the main reason he is such a dickhead is because all he cares about is science.

I'm always curious what it is people like this think Brock should be doing. He kills people, that's all he does. Brock got dickriding throughout literally the entire show, every episode was "OMG THATS BROCK SAMSON! MEN WANT TO FRICK HIM AND WOMEN WANT TO BE HIM! HE KILLS ALL THE DUDES AND DOESNT AFRAID OF ANYTHING!" He had his arc defecting and then reforming the OSI. He specifically rejected confronting the moral implications of his actions in the Scooby-Doo episode. He got bent by a woman he seems to actually click with. The last episode had him doing nothing but reaffirming that he does indeed love killing dudes. That's it, he doesn't need anything more. Don't tell me you're self inserting as Brock and that's why you're butthurt about not getting more, you're not that guy pal
This isn't really true, some of the best Brock moments were when they had him doing more mundane shit or getting thrown for a loop by something he can't just murder away. Shit like going insane over not being able to just kill Dermot or needing to have his license to kill renewed were fricking great. The flashback shit with him and Hunter was also always fun because we got to him him doing dumb shit like playing road trip games about who could spot the most cows.
I think that's simplistic, it's not ALL Brock does but it's a big part of his character and this is the fricking series finale and ultimately his impact is just he puts cold water on Hunter from blowing Rusty out of the sky. Okay you can't figure out how to get Brock on a Rampage but you didn't really have ANYTHING for him to do.
