I agree. There can be well done diversity changes. If the creator/team does it honestly and it helps or at least doesnt destroy the overall appeal, ok.
Because the consumer can sense if this is pushing or just for advertisment or pandering to a niche. Thats why noone cried that Samuel Jackson became Fury, because he is a beloved and good actor. While most casting is““who?“ and demands a much higher pay-off for the viewer! I look at you Finn from Star Wars!

NTA but don't most people like Staric Shock and Blade lol. If you think about it more minorities be very appreciative if they had their own IPs since you can create a lot of jobs for minorities when those exist. For all this preach for diversity, minorities especially black people still barely have any autonomy of their own within these companies. If black creators make a product then it means they could hire upwards 10+ of their own king and if great can possibly reach stardom with it leading to more higher opportunities in their careers (See Jordan Peele). Minorities being at the mercy of white and israelites ironically limits this possibility and sometimes will probably keep a few around for quota purposes and nothing more than that. Like when you think about how Black Dynamite has more black people during its inception than Miles Morales it starts to become a hilarious situation lol.

Raceswaps if anything just accelerates more racial tension leading to more culture wars from both sides of the spectrum helping no one in the process. Raceswaps exist this way because companies wont let minorities create original products that flourish in the long term. You sound like the individual who sees a black product and shouts " THOSE OF YOU WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT RACESWAPS BETTER SEE PRODUCT TO UPLIFT BLACK PEOPLE OR ELSE YOU CANT COMPLAIN" rather than treating it like a nice product without blaming the customer/pressuring them with guilt. The only reason he's Latino is because Bendis thought "Miles Morales" was a cool superhero name but only found out last minute that it was a Spanish surname so he had to jump through a myriad of hoops to make it work.
He could have just pick a different name but he was too stubborn. He could have made Jeff a Morales and turn him Latino but a black son with black father issues was to much of drama bait to let go. So the mom being Latina and a Morales and the family taking up her last name ended up being Bendis choice.

If you can take the character and swap their race and the only thing that changes is the aesthetics, then there's no reason why you can't change it because them being white, an alien, etc. isn't actually integral to the character.

This is still a matter of changing a character design people are familiar with. Starfire's race doesn't matter since she's not human so why not make her purple?

Never said that. They're white characters who race is important Professor X, Beast, Jean Grey, Iron Man, Green Arrow, Iron Fist (Danny). Those are character who need to be white for their story to work. Most of the major characters who've been race swapped in the past were fine.

Miles being Afro Latino is important to his character. He represents the more diverse background that a lot of kids find themselves in now. Your point doesn't make sense your just being overly antagonistic for no reason.

Your kind are disingenuous pieces of shit that will say race is important when it's convenient to you. Like how Nani's skin tone (not even race) it's crucial but the Polish culture of The Witcher characters is irrelevant

moron the budget of Titans was like nothing. Why waste money putting an actress in orange paint that will look shitty when they can just keep her normal skin tone, You're just a homosexual that will never be pleased. I don't even now who the frick Nani is. I'm talking about different characters.

If it doesn't matter, why bother doing it instead of being faithful to the source material?
Being faithful to the source material is more important than representation.

The show already gonna different from the source going from comic to tv alone.

If their race that much of a problem then you still have the comic.

Superman being white is important to his character though.
The Kents wouldn't have adopted him, and even if they did he would've been visually adopted (remember, some versions of Clark pretends he was their biological kid), Growing up black in midwestern Kansas would've made him an outsider, which would impact his characters. As would being a powerful superhuman as an adult' way more people would side with Lex and General Lane if Clark were black.

It's a bit different when transferring to live action. You can find a wrong-raced actor that otherwise nails the role perfectly. you'll still generate outrage, but the actor's performance can turn that around. With Voice acting it's different because you don't actually care about the race of the VA you don't see.

In House of the Dragon they couldve race-swapped any character (they didnt even need to, there were already black characters) and they chose to race-swap characters whos physical features are essential to the story, AND they didnt alter the story to accommodate those changes leaving gaping plot holes, AND they shot down any fan theories that managed to reconcile the race-swap with the lore. I dont think you could get worse then these guys

      >When Season 1 came out, you discussed some changes made to the series in terms of diversity of the characters: Mark being Korean American for example, and Amber being Black. Representation on screen has been talked about so much since then — how much of that was on your mind when you were working on Season 2?

      >Kirkman: That's something that's been really important to us. We have to recognize that a couple of dumb white guys made this comic book in the early 2000s. And there was a real lack of diversity in that series. And also, with the Invincible character himself, we talked to fans at all the conventions and places we would go, and because his ethnicity was ambiguous in the comics, everyone identified with him. We would have Filipino fans come up and say, I'm so excited that you made Mark Filipino, we would have Mexican fans come up and say, we're so excited that you made Mark Mexican. And it was just amazing to see how important representation is on a personal level when you're face-to-face with a person.

        >why didn't he think about that in time of making his series
        Because this [...]

Because people can change their opinions over the course of several decades? Even ignoring the race stuff, there's a lot of changes to the story and it's mostly been good. That's because Kirkman has improved in skill over 20 years, it's completely understandable he'd be better at writing after doing it for that long.

        >We have to recognize that a couple of dumb white guys made this comic book in the early 2000s
Never understand the genre of white guys who self-deprecatingly humiliate themselves in this fashion. The minorities he's talking down to won't truly respect him and could take advantage of the kind of naivete he's playing (I even day that as a minority myself).
        >Because his ethnicity was ambiguous in the comics
I guess I'll give him that but if Mark as white as he seemingly looks in the comics is relatable to the minorities then it makes me wonder if people would give a shit about him at all if he wasn't white but another established minority in the comics. If Mark was like dark skinned latino at first would people still give a shit about him then. I feel like raceswaps and the notion of "whiteness being the default" is making me realize that minorities find whites more relatable than themselves to the point where they'd be more okay with raceswaps or visualizing themselves in the place of a white person than someone new who looks like them which seems like another whole can of worms. I believe my gripe this representation stuff is when it's coming down as narcissism where you have progressive black people call out the creators for being racist due to the depictions of Skylar despite her portrayal trying to match up her comic iteration. Knowing this info do we have to make Skylar more "palatable" for the sole purpose to present a positive role model for black people even if it betrays storybeats? Should EVERY minority group get that protective treatment? Mind you I'm not saying you should treat these people like dogshit but the creators of show were only piecing pre existing things and didn't want any controversy to ensure even though it did anyway. See I've even seen these types of "representation" folks want Atom Eve to get blackwashed in order to get that a black positive role. This what it comes down too. No love but resentment

How is it talking down to minorities when they’re acknowledging they didn’t give much thought to things like this but in retrospect they should have and since they’re doing an adaptation they can address those things now? Seems pretty straightforward and honest about failing as a creator to see past your own navel.

99% of shows take place in Japan.
            Japan is 99% Japanese.

Many American cartoons take place in city's. Particularly new York and california. Many of these city's are a melting pot so it makes sense for them to be represented as such - though going over the demographics of new York it's only 11% black and LA is only 6% black - the larger minorities are actually Latin (30 to 40%). Black ppl are honestly over represented in American shows.

I personally think the representation should make sense for setting.

Integrity, if creators don'tt care about the integrity of their work, why should the fans be invested on their work?

Exactly, why do you think the Comic Book Industry is in the gutter?

If they're doing it out of their own volition then their integrity is intact

This is why comics are not a real industry.
When George Lucas makes unnecessary changes to the original Star Wars trilogy people have no problem calling him a hack.
When a comic creator does it, comicgays will absolutely defend it and then have the gall to b***h and moan when no one cares about their comics.

But you just made this fanfic part up. Literally only /misc/ complains about this shit.

Comicgays on Cinemaphile b***h constantly about people not caring about comics, especially non-big2 comics.

I hadn't watched the original trilogy since the era of VHS tapes
I was horrified when I decided to watch it on Disney+
It was filled with pointless, godawful cgi shit.(the parts without it were still decent)

The thing that confuses me is if the creator says diversity is so important then why didn't he think about that in time of making his series. I don't hate him for saying this tbh but he said no to raceswaps then his animated show wouldn't exist and probably be a pariah.

        >why didn't he think about that in time of making his series
        Because this

        From the actual interview:

Because people can change their opinions over the course of several decades? Even ignoring the race stuff, there's a lot of changes to the story and it's mostly been good. That's because Kirkman has improved in skill over 20 years, it's completely understandable he'd be better at writing after doing it for that long.

Raceswapping is only good when the character's turned black because well uh BECAUSE IT JUST IS OKAY

Listen i don't give half a shit about the asiatics Black folk or homosexuals. What bothers me is that the animation is based entirely on that fricking soft ass loser Coery Walker and his hello kitty ass art style when it was the rad chad Ryan Ottley who saved the shit from cancellation and made it the success it was with his unique visceral style. I still haven't forgiven Kirkman from taking the last page of the comic from him. But not even including him at all in the animation team is just fricking mind bending, i'm going to have to take matters on my own hands because of this betrayal.

He did black invincible and immediately had him kill his family for shock value. If I were Kirkman I'd wouldn't want that to be my only notable black character either.

Real diversity would have been making new POC characters, not raceswapping out the white ones.

Reminder that the same individual who praise raceswaps would turn into little hitlerites if they spot lighter skinned minorities taking their roles. Example: Ryan Gosling as Black Panther is obviously the joke of the ages but if you suggest a lightskin black man should be casted then they start going in ballistic mode over the prospect of that happening. (Steinberg is Black-israeli and Agudong grew up in Hawaii btw). These types have a strong aversion for lightskin/white-passing minorities. I've even seen people b***h about the type of skin color Miles Morales should have in his live action debut. This shit even dates back when people were belly aching about Miles having 3c hair (forcing animators to change into 4c when black people can clearly have that hairstyle). This is why raceswapping is annoying because these homosexuals don't even follow the rules they impose onto others. No consistency ever.

I get what your trying to say. The name of the game to them is minority opertunities and representation without caring for its effects. I wouldn't be so mad if they were just fighting against white washing and just wanted accurate adaptation. This VA shit is nonsensical the right is bullshit beacuse at the end of the day it's voice acting you don't need to look the part. But, I honestly agree with the left. She looks like some fricking white chick and Nani dose have strong ethnic Hawaiian features. Their distinct look set them apart from tourists, now she looks like a tourist.
