but some shitty netflix show that started as a 7/10 in s01, went down to 6/10 for s02 and then ended on a cliffhanger before being cancelled? yea, who the frick wants to remember that

or worse yet, something like GoT that started as a 9/10 and ended as a 1/10. that shit we're actively trying to forget.

        >or worse yet, something like GoT that started as a 9/10 and ended as a 1/10. that shit we're actively trying to forget.

The first season of GOT was saved by executives at HBO who were controlling D&D at the time. The unaired piolet showed what a disaster D&D were at writing and directing. By season 4, they had removed all the executive control above them and had total power and went fricking made with power, creating huge costly sets that they barely even filmed because they got the tight close ups.

The first season of GOT and honestly the first four seasons of GOT when they followed the books should be an example to the world of what we COULD have gotten.

People should be going out there and demanding a reboot.

Are you stupid? There is so much media produced these days that people move on to the next thing. Flavor of the month means just that. This isn't the 1940s where Casablanca gets an 18-month theatrical run. The longest in recent memory was Avatar 2 with 5ish months, amd even that is less than half of what Avatar got only 15 years ago.

The film industry is oversaturated as hell largely because of streaming. When streaming contracts, which is already happening, the saturation will lessen.

It's the "content" paradigm. It's not films or series or documentaries or interviews or novels or albums anymore, it has all been subsumed by content. Empty calories for the brain.

There is more media coming out now than ever before

Thanks to streaming services, there is an incredibly cheaplu accessible , endless supply of it, and most of it is released all at once. The handful of things that aren't only end up being 8-10 episodes long so there's not a lot of time for build up or discussion.
Compare it to the days where Lost had 23 episodes a season and that season lasted over half of the year, and it's obvious why shows are quickly forgotten now.

And yes, there was some shows that had short seasons that stood up, like Breaking Bad. But those were few and far between, and most of them happened before streaming services and entire season dumps really took off.
It cannot be understated enough how damaging streaming services truely have become to the modern film and tv show industries. Just think about it, the price of a single DVD back in the early 00s is the same as a month (or muliple months) of an entire streaming service. You can get half a year of streaming for the price of a single season of tv on DVD. It's completely fricked everything.

It's not just that it's shit.
Most media through history is forgettable shit that doesn't last the test of time.
The main issue today is that it is shit and it is demoralizing, mean spirited, and evil. In the past shit media at least tried to tell a story and had a hero and maybe some lady would whip her breasts out in the B movie and then people would move on.
Now the movies and shows are all about deconstructing and destroying civilization, society, and relationships at a macro scale. So even big projects are designed to fail in a way and be shitty because they are intended to be shit, unlike in the past where shit was an accident or fault of incompetence.

          That's why I said publishers
He can still have his fun writing little notes and exciting scenes for HotD or the Dunk & Egg side stories he has.
No doubt he'll have a producer role for everything ASOIF related shows.
And giving up writing the books doesn't stop him from getting royalties for the things he's already wrote.

What's the point of being old and rich if you can't insulate yourself from the rest of the world, not care, and pursue what you love to do? But I think he's lacking the last part. If there was a pie eating measure then he'd be breaking records

What's odd, is that he can literally be the change he wants to see in the world by pumping out his books and raking in that cash.
I don't think he has kids right? Just him and his wife? Donate a chunk of the money you make to Biden or Democrats.
Donate to Ukraine, Palestine, whatever fricking interest group he happens to support.
I don't agree with everything he believes in, but I fully support his ability to throw his money at it.
I don't blame poor people for feeling lost because they have no power to influence their lives. But this rich fat frick?

Yeah.....no more Dunk and Egg are ever coming. Problem with that series (and all the Dance stuff) is that all of it ties in with the main ASOIAF series and he just can't deal with it at all.

He's a boomer, that money is his damn it! To spend on......literally nothing. Imagine the propaganda coup if he were to help outfit some Ukie military units, spooks should be giving him a nudge. But maybe he's trapped, classic fat person problem, and has never sought liberty or freedom and is stuck in his little lane

I've been thinking how Frank Herbert inadvertently got off ending the Dune series. Chapterhouse has a pretty big build up in the end that's basically unlike anything else in the series. I don't know how he would've ultimately ended the confrontation with the old Imperium vs. the Enemy. Instead his son continued it wrote some shitty fanfiction and it's considered kind of meh with some hardcore fans convinced Frank would've made it amazing
GRRM if he dies will leave people with an impression of a better book and ending than he could've ever produced himself. Any author finishing it will instead get the blame

A liberal homosexual feminist Protestant was teaching a class on George R.R. Martin, known hack

”Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Gurm and accept that Planetos is the greatest fantasy setting of all time even greater than Arda!”

At this moment, a brave, patriotic, British WW1 veteran who had served 1500 tours of duty on the Somme and understood the necessity of war and fully supported all decisions made by Butcher Haig stood up.

”What are the linguistic differences among the peoples of Westeros?”

The arrogant proddie smirked quite schismatically and smugly replied “There is the Old Tongue and the Common Tongue, you stupid warmonger”

”Wrong. There should be hundreds of dialects. If the Wall is 8000 years old as you say, how can the Wildlings and Northmen understand one another?”

The HBO shill was visibly shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of A World of Ice and Fire. He stormed out of the room crying those redditor crocodile tears. The same tears redditors (who today live in such luxury most can afford sex changes) cried when Missandei was beheaded. There is no doubt that at this point our sola scriptura-homosexual wished he had pulled himself up by his bootstraps and become more than a garbage pulp fiction fan. He wished so much he could die a glorious death in battle, but he had sworn to always be a draft dodger!

The students applauded and became Tolkien fans that day and accepted the Pope as their Lord and Master. A giant eagle named “Thorondor” flew into the room and perched atop the flag of Gondor and shed a tear on the White Tree. Beowulf was read in the original Old English several times, and Eru Ilúvatar himself showed up and enacted Aragorn's flat rate tax policy across the universe.

The Lutheran was fired the next day and sunset found him squatting in the grass, groaning. Every stool was looser than the one before, and smelled fouler. By the time the moon came up he was shitting brown water.

The industry in general is full of the worst people in society and all of the profits from these non-essentials could be saving lives. I think the key to understanding the pathology of leftwing psychology is to understand that they have no idea why rightwing people believe what they do, while rightwing people have a pretty good idea why leftwing people believe what they do.
For example: leftwing people cannot understand the reasons behind a rightwing person not supporting abortion, so to them they are just evil, or spiteful, or hateful of women, or ignorant, whatever negative insult they choose. While the rightwing person would explain that they don't want abortion because they think it is immoral to kill an unborn child due to their religion or other ethical considerations.
Now of course this can apply to rightwingers from time to time as well not understanding the exact reasoning for leftwing perspectives, but it is nowhere as common. This has been proven by psychological studies.

They are not interested in movies but for some reason they want to hold strong opinions about them because they saw someone with opinions looking smart. They want to look smart too but they don't want to put up the effort for that so they're just assuming contrarian or negative position. >>From the mind of George Rape Rape Martin
An hour later, her stomach began to cramp so badly that she could not go on. She spent the rest of that day retching up green slime. If I stay here, I will die. I may be dying now. Would the horse god of the Dothraki part the grass and claim her for his starry khalasar, so she might ride the nightlands with Khal Drogo? In Westeros the dead of House Targaryen were given to the flames, but who would light her pyre here? My flesh will feed the wolves and carrion crows, she thought sadly, and worms will burrow through my womb. Her eyes went back to Dragonstone. It looked smaller. She could see smoke rising from its wind-carved summit, miles away. Drogon has returned from hunting.

Sunset found her squatting in the grass, groaning. Every stool was looser than the one before, and smelled fouler. By the time the moon came up she was shitting brown water. The more she drank, the more she shat, but the more she shat, the thirstier she grew, and her thirst sent her crawling to the stream to suck up more water. When she closed her eyes at last, Dany did not know whether she would be strong enough to open them again.

She dreamt of her dead brother.

Negativity has grown because media antagonism has grown. It's not enough to make a movie by replacing the male cast with a female one, they have to add fuel to the flame with their armies of journalists who launch endless clickbait campaigns to stir up more controversy than they would otherwise get. We don't live in an era of entertainment anymore. It's an era of outrage farming.

Side effect of attributing subjective alienation and ennui entirely to external pressures (i.e. Idolatry). It's why media is almost exclusively agitprop didactic allegory written by schoolmarms and finger waggers.

I am convinced beyond a doubt that grrm threw a tantrum back in 2008 or so when people were figuring out what was gonna happen in the next 3 books, which is why dance also got delayed so much. He didn’t want to be obvious since he’s obviously a fat homosexual that got bullied all his childhood so his one escape was the thing bullied kids do where they larp themselves into believing they’re secret geniuses
    Anyways tldr
    >people read SoS
    >start figuring out feast and dance
    >feast comes out and gives them even more to go on
    >grrm starts fricking seething
    >rewrites dance as much as he can without fricking with the continuity
    >seethes even more when people still understand what’s gonna happen despite his rewrites making it even harder
    >writes himself into a fricking corner for winds
    >around this time the show is catching up to dance
    >throw dumb and dumber breadcrumbs
    >fans absolutely hate what happens, even some of the normies who devour slop as long as their favourite characters says or does something cool or funny start questioning it
    >wtf they hate it
    >grow into a rampant depression because not only did everyone figure out most of what’s happening they hate it too
It’s why the fat c**t can’t stop mentioning the red wedding in his interviews btw, he thinks he’s so fricking clever for pulling it off, if you go back you’ll notice he’ll take any chance he gets to mention the red wedding. It’s his one cope he still has that he’s a good writer

      Probably more accurate than not
      >It’s why the fat c**t can’t stop mentioning the red wedding in his interviews btw
Is he actually harping on about it? Like an artist bragging about a one hit wonder from 20 years ago. Or maybe all his other hits aren't finished (Purple Wedding, Battle of Ice, Battle of Blood etc) because he broke them all on purpose and can't remake them into something good (also he simply stopped writing). Also I think he resents himself for not doing the time skip

You might not believe me but I met him in 2015 and jokingly asked him if Robin Arryn was gonna survive the books and sit the throne and I shit you not his reply was “you’ve seen the red wedding right, no one is safe” and gave his high pitched giggle

Bleh, how cringe. But I guess that's a decent enough on brand automatic retort that would have less discerning fans basedyyying over. Also lmao, he often brings back major characters from the dead, because either he can't commit or he understands the major flaw of genociding your main cast

He’s done it in a few interviews I’ve seen of him. I haven’t really given got any thought in half a decade because of how bland the final season(s) were but I bet that fat frick still brings up the red wedding at least on a semi regular basis when he talks to people.
I know there’s some interview from like the final season where they ask him something in the ballpark about which of the main cast are dying and he says something like “well we all remember I wrote the red wedding and bla bla bla”

Old people struggle to say new things. Is the Red Wedding the only trick he's managed to do and stick the landing on? Everything else is still up in the air, currently tbd.
Also I'd disagree the last seasons were bland, they were offensively bad

genuinely don’t think Dany or any of the core group are dying, like his early notes read.
he may have characters that had their fates changed over time, but the core (Dany, bran, tyrion, Jon, Arya) are the nucleus of whatever had planned and the story relies on them making it to the end in some form.
the gardener meme stuff isn’t a pure thing for him. if it was, he might actually get somewhere. but as it is, the clash between the Plan and the Gardening is probably part of what led him to a standstill.

I think Dany going mad and getting killed is one of the things readers figured out which made him seethe. I don’t think Dumb and dumber would’ve written it in the show of their own accord. I think what they did to the white walkers was on GRRMs notes to not completely spoil his book ending though. Since as much as the fat man pisses me off it can’t be that bad. I hope wights don’t die if their reanimator dies though cause that’s some Shlock writing

                > I don’t think Dumb and dumber would’ve written it in the show of their own accord
his plan was more of Dany to be perceived as being mad, not necessarily actually being so. and they changed it last minute from her accidentally setting off wildfyre to just going ham, which is why people noticed flames in a few frames that hadn’t been fixed.
It was absolutely d&d, who had nothing but loathing and hatred for Emilia Clarke.
they lied to her about how the show turns out, since a lot of her last scenes she’s literally just sitting on a saddle in a green screen being instructed to make hundreds of different expressions for hours. They decided how to edit it later.
She did an interview with them about a dinner watchparty she had with fans and had assured them she hadn’t gone evil as the ep started, only to be completely humiliated to look like she had no idea what she was talking about.
she told the story in a heartfelt way, and they were just laughing and she was trying to awkwardly play it cool but sounded upset.
those dudes fricking hated her, hated being stuck with her so long. and they operated out of pure spite & favoritism, and not just with her.

Why did they hate her so much? She wasn't the greatest actress but always seemed very sweet and friendly during interviews. I do think D&D hated the show by the end, they basically wrapped it up pronto because they were bored and struggling (although they have some sympathy with fat man not finishing more books) and wanted to dip to go and make big bucks with Star Wars

She had an brain anurysm during season 2 or 3 and almost died and as a result had a lot of extra care and attention put on her during production.
whether that has anything to do with it or not i'm not sure, but they also notoriously disliked the guy that played barriston because he dared question them on the way his character was going to get offed so i wouldn't doubt it. they seem like total drama queens.

Yeah I remember them hating him cause he read the books and disagreed with his character development and that his arc from Dwd was getting scrapped

Funny how he was right and his anticlimactic death was one of the first things that normies picked up about the show taking a nosedive

It's not the poor girls fault that she had a rare condition. So what they had to take more care of her? Not like she was doing big stunts of anything.
Yeah it must've sucked for the Barriston actor, getting shanked in an alley like they're filming a documentary about London, when in the books there's this whole big arc coming about whether or not he'll doom the city.....which we'll never read about because fat man is fat

she also asked to not do so many nude scenes after s1, which played a part. probably started playing hardball in contract negotiations as she went higher profile.
I don’t really think d&d need a solid reason, they just decide they hate someone, or favor them, and it shows up in the writing.
it got worse the more leaks there were, so I’m sure that didn’t help their tempers or pride.

Ok I mean I get kind of being miffed about less nude scenes because that was once a big draw of the show, but they didn't really compensate by making other cast members take their kit off, they just ditched the t&a entirely and became way more boring as a result.
I remember reading some schizo stuff about Dabid and how they're mad and completely unqualified to run such a big series and were classic nepotistic hires.

Dany absolutely was going to go mad, attack Kings Landing, and get killed in the books.
But it was likely going to be in raging seething anger over Aegon already taking over Kings Landing and winning the throne for their namesake.

Just like "Bran" ends up on the throne at the very end, except it's actually Bloodraven who warged into Brans body and killed the real Bran off.

she was gonna come to Westeros thinking she was the Conquering hero to return, only to be completely and utterly perceived as a foreign monster leading an army of demons, mutants, and pillaging tribals.
then she’d make a series of blunders culminating in accidentally setting off the Wildfyre stores in the city, and everyone would believe she burnt the city down on purpose.
for her to simply go and because she didn’t get her way is too on the nose. she’s constantly questioning and re-assessing herself for signs of madness.
the tragedy is in not anticipating how she would be seen, and remember how Gurm beats you over the head with the idea that perception is the core of power?
If she just goes mad it’s like oh well she was a nutjob, it says nothing.
but if she’s perceived like an even worse version of her father Aerys, no matter what she tries to do, outflanked by someone who isn’t anymore Westerosi than she is and maybe not who he claims to be (never confirmed, no point), then it drives home her core character tragedy: you can never go home again. there is nowhere for her, let alone her big dream.
that’s why the lemons shit keeps getting played over and over in her head. she doesn’t realize it was Tyrosh, not Braavos.
there’s no real need to kill her off, the perception of being mad and the final loss of a hope of a home is the end of her arc.

thanks, but I do think he was setting it up this way. he does repetitive clues that should make it obvious if you have an interest in writing/plot structure. like that famous convo between Tyrion and Varys that yells it at you lol
she’ll be undone by perception and Tyrion will be the architect of all the death.

This is completely ignoring the giant problem (Aegon) in the room.
He's already on the shores of Kings Landing ready to take over with the Targ name. Either he will be repelled and looked at like you say Dany will, or he will be victorious and usher in Danys final descent into madness, otherwise it would just be repeating the same story beats book after book, and that's something GRRM is very good about not doing.

reread my post, I explained his role in how she’s received. I just didn’t name him.
I should have included more though:
what led me to this was the idea that Tyrion is actually a villain, or at least an asoiaf version. he even openly claims he just wants to ruin things for everyone else from now on. that’s who he becomes.
he’s the reason Aegon is even in Westeros! He convinced him to go there instead of linking up with his new employer. He put them on a collision course just coz he could.
so he’ll probably help Dany make even worse blunders, encourage her to be harsher in her policies against the people of KL, who he hates.
A big reason she’s perceived as a monster is they’ll have Aegon, rhaegar reborn, come to save them from the sparrow and Cersei and anarchy, then Dany, a woman with a lesser claim, horrible monsters, and an army of Dothraki is like hell coming back again.
so I am accounting for him. he is a large part of the failure of her plans.
might have succeeded if they had done a marriage alliance, but she’d be a gross liability showing up then, and anyway he’d need to marry locally, not the mad king’s foreign daughter.

I didn’t honestly really try, it just started to hit me over the head over the last few years. I was really troubled by the Dany goes mad route, I was like this bugs me but I can’t figure out why. Then I realized it just said nothing, illuminated nothing about her, made her pointless. we all expect, especially in her last scenes in ADWD, of going that way. that’s what made me wonder if it was a false path.
but it was other anons who turned me onto the idea of Tyrion having the full villain arc. don’t think Arya will, and Dany’s didn’t make sense.
Looking back at Tyrion’s encounter with Faegon it was the only explanation that accounted for actively working against the interests of someone he intended to work for.

can’t figure that out, but seems obvious the others been out to get Jon since the prologue, god knows why.
idk about bran king but my sense is BR is not the 3ER itself, he’s a human host for it. The 3ER is looking for a new host. to what end? Idk.
it is probably the collective consciousness of the weirwoods or some scifi stuff like GRRM likes. the COTF are its symbiotic/slave species. Maybe it did make the Others to clean house.
Truly don’t think there’ll be a night king or anything like that. Haven’t really thought the rest out. I don’t know if he’s as solid on the supernatural stuff. I think he has political arcs worked out, mostly.

Waymar and Jon are cousins because a stark married into the Royce family a gen or two ago, he’s described as physically similar down to a tee, and they observe his sword with wariness, expecting the Valyrian steel that Jon will later have. they laugh when it breaks easily, which isn’t against expectations. there was more to this theory but I forget some of it.

The more interesting theory to me is that Jon’s chapter talking to Benjen in the beginning is not remotely what it seems.
Benjen laughs about Jon assuming he chose the NW and glorifies it, Jon notices Benjen has incredibly fancy clothes, which you think would be against being a rugged Nightswatchman, and Benjen is actively trying to coerce Jon into the NW while holding himself apart from all the Starks. Later there’s some hint that he got to Luwin to get him to seal the deal and convince Ned, orchestrating the whole thing out of resentment against Ned, who wasn’t totally on board with the idea at first. why?
Gurm refused to answer a fan who asked if Benjen chose to go in, said we wouldn’t get to know what made him go in, it’s relevant later.
so Benjen was probably forced and punished Ned by hyping Jon up and ushering him in.
no love lost between Ned and Benjen. That first chapter is totally different if you ignore Jon’s preconceptions and read the little physical clues.

my only real guess why the Benjen thing is Benjen had involvement with the mystery surrounding Jon and Ned made him join the NW to protect the secret. so a lot of collateral damage in his family just to keep Jon safe.
makes Ned more interesting to me.

reminds me of when he refused to answer a fan about how Benjen joined the NW, once people realized the, “ by choice,” thing was an assumption he had led us all to without actually saying it.
just another mystery that’ll never be answered, though at least there’s clues.

I did not like his books or his show and here's why: they were created by a fat talentless hack writer who hates his fans Was that okay Mr. R Martin?

Why not do both? The fat frick can barely write and what he does write is just harry potter for adults. His fricking writting minions wrote and finished the expanse and it was 10x better. He is just mad he can't continue to do nothing while tweeting about writing like he is one.

He never has any intention of finishing nor releasing Winds of Winter or the series. He gave up after D&D essentially kicked him off the GOT show and simultaneously revealed and ruined his ending.
It was on a blind item list a few months ago.

He's never going to release Winds
                >leagl ramifications
The dude is ike 80 years old with hundreds of millions of dollars. There are no legal ramifications he will give a single iota of a frick about when it comes to not delivering on his book.
The real honest to god truth is he was a strugling author his entire life and had to write books to make a living, and then HBO gave him a couple of truckloads of cash for the rights of GOT and he retired and only works on shit he wants to for passion projects. He doesn't NEED to write Winds like he needed to write the other books 20 years ago, so it's never going to get finished.

He has money he might want legacy, though. If there’s one thing old people actually care about when eternity is at the door it’s that people will care about them the next day and unless he releases winds they won’t.

Plus whatever draft he has will obviously get leaked if he died or sold by greedy family members just like how Tolkiens living heirs shat on his memory by allowing RoP

                Anonymous

I don't think he cares. Christ imagine how much he'll be hated when he's gone, 3 unfinished series from his beloved franchise with a subpar tv show a consolation. If he had pumped Winds maybe 7 years ago his reputation might have been salvageable (oh he only died before his last book, and he was making such good progress too!) but now with such big gaps and the rumours of hating his audience there's no coming back from it

                Anonymous

His entire family and his entire wifes family are dead and they do not have any children, so there's no heirs to pass down the script to and leak it. His old editor that he supposedly gave the original script of Winds to died a year or so ago, so I doubt that would leak from there.
He also has said multiple times he doesn't really give a shit about his legacy and he's not going to allow anyone else to finish his work and if it's not finished when he's dead so be it. He's really just stopped giving a shit since the TV show ruined his ending, and I don't blame him. Although I think he's also using that as an excuse since he clearly wrote himself into a corner and has no idea how to get out of it without doing a time skip like he originally planned.

I honestly don't think he's written himself into a corner, it's fricking words on a page, make the characters go where you want them to semi plausibly and the readers will cut you some slack. At best I think he's annoyed because he can't do it perfectly, and at worst it's because he doesn't care and cba

Since we’re sort of discussing the books and show now..
Considering we know that Jon is Rhaegar and Lyannas, how come Ned even let him join the watch? He obviously didn’t legitimise him as a stark for that sole reason so why let him give up lands and titles in the watch?

Also, when Aerys killed Ned’s brother and father he iirc demanded Jon Arryn to deliver Robert and Ned to KL (or outright kill?) and Jon Arryn rebelled in protest, how come Aerys didn’t call for Benjen too

Hey, it's that loser who is so salty about JK Rowling winning a sci-fi aware ahead of his book that he actually referenced Harry Potter in the most popular series he has, that he has NEVER FINISHED while J.K. Rowlings has a theme park for her finished series her original fans are reading to their children now. Rowling's die hard fans made wizard rock, while this loser's die hard fans are porn addicted incel that will never procreate.

Go make an Asimov thread on Cinemaphile sit back and enjoy a good discussion. People here still talk about films like No Country For Old Men 2 decades later. Modern shit is just all dogshit.

The story grew in the telling and got himself stuck then used the distractions of fame (cowardly) to procrastinate. He will never be on the same level as Jordan , Tolkien or even Erikson if he doesn't finish the series which I highly doubt he will. I remember preoredering dance at Waterstones. I gave up on him years ago.
