Sorry for putting you in a list somewhere, dad.
I did the same thing and got caught
it was my friend's idea as well as I was a little sperg lord and had no interest
my parents treated me like a sex offender for years
pretty good for my mental game

>Steven Spielberg receives a HILARIOUS PRANK PHONE CALL
Did anyone actually download this? I wanted to hear it if it was legit.
I used usenet before torrents. Yes you could. I watched Revenge of the Sith a week before it hit theaters.
Same, I specifically remember waiting for Masters of Horror episodes for some reason
>I used usenet before torrents. Yes you could. I watched Revenge of the Sith a week before it hit theaters.
got you beat, i downloaded the phantom menace the day of release from a mass mail on aol, i was modding and selling psx games in 97 making thousands a month in highschool, also made a killing selling the wiggers no limit master p's label cds, my area got high speed internet early
I unironically want to frick you.
pirate fetish?
Yes.
>Yes.
well sorry anon im not gay, maybe in another life friend
I pirate stuff too and sold CDs in my days. Can you wear a cute maid outfit? Thanks.
Yes.
>I unironically want to frick you.
why?
i forgot to add i shut down my business once the Black folk started to say the cd-s didnt work or they left on their system and it over heated and fricked the laser up for leaving it on to long early playstation models had that problem, or they would say i gave them a blank cd, after that i only hooked up friends and some teachers that were gamers or had kids that were

you are the death of the site. you have b***hed and moaned nonstop for years. it's the same internet. it's the same. you determine what you see. you choose to obsess. grow up or get out

Nah.
>you determine what you see.
Not really.
Sure, probably not the kind of films you want though

did this post give you your much needed serotonin hit you cancerous brownoid?
yes, some of us have had cable internet since the mid 90's and never had dialup at all.
typical zoomie larp
incorrect, i've had cable internet since the day it rolled out in the mid 90's. docsis 1.0 was only capable of about 30mbps and the more affordable plans were about 10 times faster than dialup initially, but a divx encoded movies were under 600mb to fit on a cd which could easily downloaded in an evening, we also had hardcore data caps of a few GB a month so you couldnt go bananas downloading movies that often, but i certainly did it just not as often as today.
Wild. I remember in 97 there was a kid at school whose dad was some big shot journalist, and they had an internet connection that was on 24/7 without blocking the phone. I'd never even heard of something like that. I was so envious. At home we could only afford 30 minutes per day on a 56k modem. I would make lists of sites I wanted to check, go online, download the HTML, then read the pages offline. Downloading an entire movie would have taken literally months for me.
>had an internet connection that was on 24/7 without blocking the phone
There are zoomers ITT who have no fricking clue what you mean by this. Imagine that. But anyway, I used to do the same, but instead of saving the HTML I would print everything.
My dad had a T1 line at his office so we would go over there and download stuff when Napster was a thing. Mostly music though.
>yes, some of us have had cable internet since the mid 90's and never had dialup at all.
same, it was right around the time asherons call released, i downloaded shit mostly using irc or newsgroups
I remember getting annoyed that instead of advent children or south park episodes it was kids getting railed. Didn't compute as a kid that it was bad
you could but not with file-sharing and you needed fast internet. It wasn't until torrents were a thing in like 2007 that you could easily find them. I remember a bunch of stories of guys getting arrested for uploading movies to be downloaded.
Limewire and Bearshare fricking sucked. It would take a full day just to download an album sometimes
Yes, but they were all severely compressed files because "high speed internet" was still in its infancy.
People would compress the frick out of them or simply make them its batch files that would re-assemble themselves once you clicked on the main one
>urotskudoji1.bat
>urotskudoji2.bat
and so on.
Also it was super easy to watch porn online.
Especially foreign porn. No registration whatsoever.
The only people who got filtered by Limewire were normies. WinMX, IRC, Direct Downloads, Private Servers and torrents were for Big Brained users.
>t.Oldgay
>make the app look cool
>it's full of some of the most deviant shit ever, along with some hidden gems here and there
It was the best time. If you used it young you learner early buttholes are everywhere in the world lol.
Yeah but the quality was shit if it was the actual movie, and it probably wasn't. It was probably gay porn or CP.
>tfw can now download BR rips in minutes
>remember when it used to take me literal days running my Windows XP machine 24/7 to download an aXXo rip
I remember I found one torrent of an obscure anime I really wanted to see and there was only 1 seeder so I waited about 3 weeks for it to finish torrenting.
Wich anime?
Master of Martial Hearts
aaaah aXXo , iven´t heard that name in a looong time.

>hey boomers, could you actually find full films online during the early internet or not?
there was only one film I had trouble finding online and actually bought on ebay; High Crusade (1994)
What was the first song you ever downloaded?
It was either the Futurama theme song or the Invader Zim theme song
probably some system of a down
>link

The fakest vegana ever.
Maybe if you're not counting every single mtf troony ever, sure.

they were all the rage when my dad downloaded napster, took like 11+ minutes to download a shit bitrate song on our dial up connection.
Enter Sandman on Napster, and through a strange series of events, met Lars Ulrich later in life
did you call him a homosexual?
I didn't get much of a chance, as soon as I started talking he got irritated and called his assistant over. Kirk and James though, who I also both met randomly in completely unrelated circumstances, were super cool, especially James who actually approached me to check out my car.
MacGyver theme song
Either Family Guy theme song or ACDC Who Made Who
ACDC Thunderstruck or some shit
Wait and Bleed
Walking Contradiction or Geek Stink Breath videos by Green Day.
System of a Down, Rammstein, and the Beatles
I think it was White Stripes or Metallica or something.
I have no idea. But the first I can remember vividly was limp bizkit Break stuff
For me it was Libby Hoeller dancing in her dorm room. Still big fan of that song
Yes. I used kazaa and emule before jumping onto bit torrent in 2003.
I only looked up jenna jameson kinos
the stupid star wars movie with jar jar and the kid was my first cam rip I ever saw in 1999. thats when I fricked your mom for the first and last time

how could you be into kino without watching shaky kramer cam rips of movies
When limewire existed it took like 8 hours to download an mp3
>download movie
>it's porn
>download porn
>it's a virus
Yeah, but my internet was too slow for movies. Limewire was strictly for music. A 5MB file would take upwards to 10 minutes. So anything in the hundreds of megabytes was too slow to even consider downloading.
I used to upload huge files that were nothing but garbage so I could meet the UL/DL ratio. Sometimes I got garbage files that someone else uploaded doing the same thing. It was just a gamble. Sometimes you'd find a legit user and scrape their files, and a win like that made the dance worth it.
Anybody remember getting shit from list bots on AOL? They'd send you 600 emails with a broken up rar file. 3 days of downloading and you might have duke nukem 3d. Or a virus. Or a file that won't extract. But you kept trying damn it.
I got saving private ryan, black hawk down, children of men, and the south park movie through this.
I tried a lot of others but it would always been in some foreign language or shit ass quality. And 90% of songs were that clip of bill clinton that some spazz was trying to spam.
Good times, wouldn't trade them for the world.
>south park movie
Was it a ~150MB "asf" file or something?
For me, it was looking up a track list for an album and downloading 13 different mp3s and a couple of them were invariably not the right version, making your own idiosyncratic album which you listened to for years thinking it was the studio version.
Yes but it was nonexistent before broadband and it was rare until bittorrent was invented. A10/V10 thank you based axxo!
MAH FELLOW AMERICANS
>britney-spears-xxx-big-boobs-naked.exe
Seems legit.
>big-boobs
Something she doesn't have.
IRC and direct downloads and AOL had a huge piracy scene there were tons of warez websites with links to all the files of say sim city 2000
But downloads were so slow
>download south park episode
>it's actually a hyper kino vicky vette scene
unironically one of the best porn recs i ever got was from some dude disguising his porn as south park episodes probably to hide it from his parents on the family computer
>dad found the Sora Aoi video
Lost my computer for a fricking year frickkkk
MY FELLOW AMERICANS
>Saturday at lunch begin downloading a porn movie
>fully downloaded by 2am
yes, but it was all .asf format. like 240p early mpeg4 asp compression to get it packed all into a 150mb file. once the initial novelty wore off, i didn't even try again until xvid became the compressor of choice.
By 2004/2005, I was torrenting any show or movie I wanted. I do miss the days of the early torrent when I watched pig fricking videos with friends during LAN parties
>Fire up limewire
>Download limewire pro crack

Yeah but it was a gamble on quality, you never really knew what you were getting
>exe file

>its some italian movie about a nun
for me it was downloading Nightmare Before christmas and getting Elf instead
“Early” youtube had all of dbz for years
My friend downloaded Deuce Bigalow and End of Days when they first came out, I remember it took like 3 days to download lol. Back when zip drives were a thing
For me it was terrible quality rips of tv shows. I think my first limewire download as an 11 year old was the full animated series of the The Adventures of Tintin but it was 360p tops and had korean subtitles burned into the frames. I burned it onto dvds and must have watched each episode hundreds of times.
Hey kid, come sit on Uncle Ray's lap. We're gonna make a little movie.
He's coming out on 24th of May this year.
Yeah, only cause he's senile.
Senile like a fox. A child raping fox.
You said that like he's dropping a mixtape. Oh. Oh no.
The internet was way too slow and unreliable back then. You were happy when you could download some mp3 files of popular songs in 100kbits or 10 second porn clips in 480p
I'm sure there were others before it, but the first movie I clearly remember downloading off limewire was a cam of the second Harry Potter movie in two parts.
Yes, but it would be shit quality. For new movies, lots of very bad screen recs (someone literally filming a movie screen like in Seinfeld).
It was mostly cp
Yeah, fricking pthc all over the movie tittles
Around middle of the 2000s we were using Ares to watch movies and music clibs. Basically like Stremio
>spend 9 hours downloading porn
>cum in 30 seconds
>delete it all
Good times
>he didn't create a folder customized to an invisible icon with blank character filename placed inconspicuously in the far corner of the desktop to store his downloaded porn
My paranoia would not have let me do that.
Instead, I saved a curated selection of of pr0n on my trusty Nokia 6600.
> mfw i accidentally leave it in the bathroom with the screen on hardcore gril on gril action
I never downloaded any full movies, but tons of trailers and clips along with music and teen kasia videos. That little b***h's dorm room is burned into my memory.
Yes. Kazaa, eMule, limewire, mIRC, DC++ etc. we used to download them. Movies were often split in two files (CD1 and CD2), file size rarely went over 700mb.
InvaderZimInANutshell.mp3
DBZInANutshell.mp3
Yes
But don't download before the actual move comes out
Otherwise it's German porn with them puking into each other's mouths
Not really, internet was so slow and flakey on dial-up anyway that it would have taken forever.
Limewire was pretty shit.
dial up was the worst and it made me not use internet much thank god.
>could you actually find full films online during the early internet or not?
yeah but of course we had divx shit
>dammit_blink_182_cover_acoustic.exe 126 kbps
>still cp
We would watch a show split in 25 parts on YT and it was fine
Yes, but half the time it was porn and not the movie you were looking for.
Early web 2.0 I used to go to youtube and download Lost episodes from the public library's computer, each episode was split in at least 6 parts.
Shit encodes, esoteric file types, and generally fricked up sources like camrips and screeners. Anime was frustrating to find too.
I had a lot more success starting around 2007 when ddl sites took off.
I was trying to find a graph of dvd releases per year since I think that not having easy or good digital access to source material was still a problem, but couldn't. Now we've had practically all pre-DVD movies released in some digital format so it's much easier.
Also keep in mind that we were using CRT monitors with VGA so the common resolutions were 800×600 and 1024×768 pixels. I think we all had 24bit+ true color capability by then though, but people were still debating if you even needed more than 16 bits back then like the current frame/refresh rate debating today.
Yes, bit torrent was a thing in 2003
>"There's a purchasable version called Limewire Pro?"
>"Naaaah, I'm just gonna download Limewire Pro on Limewire."
yes but it took about 15 hours to download and you may end up with picrel.
Skill issue.
I’m a millennial and I have fond memories of painstakingly assembling the entire run of Seinfeld, episode by episode, on Kazaa back in 2001-2002
Yeah you could, not necessarily on Limewire either as there were plenty of websites hosting whole catalogues of film. Limewire worked fine too though.
>System of a Down - Legend of Zelda
You used MRIC or usenet and downloaded in chunks and compiled it
>Gets you sued by anarchists.
>could you actually find full films online during the early internet
Yes, and it's still there.
Limewire was for normie plebs. BearShare was what the leet haxors used.
>not using Morpheus
So bluepilled of (You).
I sure hope it was a crack.
it's up to version 6 now
free
Mostly we ripped DVDs from blockbuster.
No, unless it was like 140p and it would take 1-2 days to download
limewire is not early internet
we all know why these limewire/kazaa threads are made. should be ashamed of yourselves
Because we like talking about when the internet wasn't a pozzed shithole and full of third wolders on their fricking telephones?
I use to download South Park episodes onto my psp I could only fit two at a time because I had the starting micro chip
batman.exe
I always used Bearshare. Was I missing out not using Limewire?
first downloaded media i had was the first season of futurama
I miss LimeWire

>heading back toward the computer and realize I can see my computer screen in reflection
>realize this is where my parents always stop and talk to me
>shit.jpg
>realize this whole time my parents could see what I was looking at and they never said anything
Damn bro.
Would they still have been able to see the reflection if you were sitting in front of the monitor? Your explanation makes it sound like you were sitting between the monitor and what was reflecting.
Due to the angle and the size of the frame, they could see it clear as day.
Do you think your parents were always stopping to talk to you in the middle of gooning because they were trying to awkwardly discourage you from gooning in the living room
no idea, maybe. I'll never know because I do it intend to ever bring it up
>limewire
>early internet
I miss when this place wasn't 99% normalgays.
more like lamewire
I dled stuff off ftps that war3z groups had left around

there were entire communities of people who would go out of their way to record movies with hand cams and then upload them online for 'cool dude internet hacker' street cred.

not sure how they even had the right to do that
>couldn't get through for a while so phoned the operator to tell them to cut off the connection on your end
lmao happened to me.
I'd have stabbed that c**t in her tit with a soldering iron.
Boomers were telephone wizards, to their credit. My mom always knew how to cut through all the low level fricks at the insurance company and get through to someone who could help sort out her problem. She also had a spy network all over my city of 80K people. I used a firework to light a garbage can on fire at a park on the opposite side of down. Thought I'd gotten away clean but some bored boomer roastie must have been looking out the window and immediately called my mom.
I always remembered the movies with Jenny
McCarthy? I had a poster of her on my wall. I still remember the first time my Dad looked in my room and saw it and happily sighed because until then he thought I was a homo.
Yeah, I also downloaded System Shock 2 through limewire, but it had no music or voice acting to shrink the file size. I was very confused during the Shodan reveal.
Yes. It was easy. Napster, Kazaa, Limewire, Bearshare, whatever. I had every episode of Invader Zim, Robocop and a few others downloaded until I tried to download BurnThroughTheWitches.exe thinking it was Dragula by Rob Zombie. Had to reformat the family PC after that.
Bootleg version of Shrek 2 and it took two days to download, it was pretty cool but it was rare
>wmv
>rmvb
>divx
>xvid
I don't miss pre mpeg-4 codec eras at all. Not nostalgic at all for that shit. That's the only good thing to come out of smartphones, was finally making mp4/mpeg-4 the common format between Windows and Apple and Android/mobile devices.
RealPlayer was such a blight.
I would download movies from IRC and later on kazaa. IRC had way better stuff.
unless you had a T1 line in a Swedish university, then no films could be downloaded until around the year 2000. before that it was mostly 10 second very low resolution video clips with awful sound.
video compression didn't really become decent until divx turned up, and mp3 was what changed audio compression.
a lot of stuff before was just avi and mpeg for vids and wav files for audio. there were a few formats around but were generally terrible, see real video, which was appalling even at the time, and felt like you were watching a video stored on a toothbrush.
>be me
>spend 2 actual weeks slowly downloading kill bill
the movie format let you watch what you had downloaded so far so that was nice at least
in 2003 BTW
Early 00's isn't really "early internet" compared to ARPAnet and university networks in the 70's, Usenet in the 80's, the rise of AOL in the 90's, etc but maybe I can paint a picture in your mind.
Universities used to give students some space on their servers so some students would just toss up files for their friends to download and the university would just leave those sites up for years after they graduated. I downloaded The Last Unicorn, The Godfather part 1, and Grave of the Fireflies off such a website in 2002. I remember AltaVista being way more useful than Google and Yahoo for finding files on university student pages.
The 00's internet was of course a minefield for stupid people. If you Googled for something like "Diablo II free download" you'd be served a bunch of virus-laden warez sites. Same deal for Limewire et al. I remember some dumb people just sharing their C drive on our dorm's network. You definitely wised up more quickly since it wasn't all apps and plug and play. I knew normie girls who learned HTML to customize their Livejournals and MySpaces.
The file quality could be dicey. I remember there were RealMedia files of 90's era anime like Sailor Moon still floating around with the openings/endings trimmed off to be easier to download on dial-up. Torrenting got really huge when it came out. People openly shared links to the latest One Piece or Naruto. I remember the quality of that era of fansubs being good enough to not be jarring when played on what were then big-screen TVs.
There was a lot of overlap with older technology too. We'd pass around copied tapes of Adult Swim and Toonami stuff.
>mfw an AltaVista search for DBZ pics in 2003 is how I ended up on Cinemaphile
Thanks for ruining my life AltaVista!
in 1997 i downloaded a camcorder rip of titanic, on irc, xdcc, 28k dialup, 240p, .viv, 700mb, took several days, and I greatly enjoyed it, never watched titanic again
I had shitty dial up so I was downloading those early star wars fan films with shitty fx and pissing and shitting myself laughing
