She was already in her late 20s when she released that song. The vibe of the song made people think she was a young 15-16 year old Disney star like Miley Cyrus when she debuted. But she was already a grown ass woman. Her face looks weird because you think she's younger than she actually is.

she was i think 25 when she sung that song and that was... at least 10 years ago.
she sung, as a 25 year old, a song you'd associate with teeny boppers.
and then her whole career was a nothingburger of her trying to sing similar songs.
really? a 30 year old woman singing a song with a chorus "i really, really, really, really, really, really like you!"

          Anonymous

her fanbase is much smaller now but it is very dedicated. they are always coming out to see her live and buying up her merch like crazy.

I actually find it weird that she didn't have another big hit because Emotion and Dedicated have songs on them that i'd think would do really well. I guess you can kind of count Cut To the Feeling

            Anonymous

            >buying her merch like crazy
Well I would but most of it just sucks, it's all either just "her full name on something" or "a picture of her on a shirt". Whoever runs her storefront can't even spell her name either, the last thing I bought had a return address for "Carly Rae Jepson"

              Anonymous

oh yeah, her shirts fricking suck. there have been like two of them in ten years that i've actually wanted. my ex girlfriend bought that boring shit constantly though

her vinyl sales are probably what sell the best tbh. Emotion sounded fricking great

        Anonymous

If I was a histrionic woman I would say that Carly's being known for one of her mid songs is the biggest shame in the music industry.

But instead I will say that she has had a fantastic career and has matured as an artist in ways that many other singers never do. She's my favorite thing in pop atm.
She also made the best Christmas song since Mariah Carey as a one-off.

I wonder if kids today feel the same way about a song like Gold Digger by Kanye West that came out in 2005. Do they think it sounds weird and old because it's different from the mumble rap/trap stuff popular today.

Carly Rae Jepsen got shat on because the song was incredibly catchy and got overplayed, which isn't her fault. I think Rebecca Black got shat on because she had a nasally voice. It's cute by kinda grating at the same time.

I've listened to some of the re-recordings but still find myself listening to the old versions, partially because it's what I'm used to and because of what

She's become a significantly better singer for sure, but I still prefer the old recordings. There's youthful energy and optimism that is missing from the new ones.

She's been hanging low-key and releasing albums every few years. Emotion tried to recapture Call Me Maybe's success as a single with Run Away With Me, but it failed, and since then she's appeared content to stay in the background of the pop scene.

the mood in 2010 was very different from today and thats reflected in the pop music. The whole carefree teenage thing doesn't seem to be happening for gen Z the way it did for millenials. Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy,
But I just met you, and this is crazy.
I just met you, and this is crazy,
But I just met you, and this is crazy.
Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy,
But I just met you, and this is crazy.
And all the other boys met me, maybe.
But I just met you, and this is crazy.

      Hey I just met you,
      And I just met you,
      But I just met you,
      So I just met you.
      And all the other boys,
      Try to meet me,
      But I just met you,
      So I just met you.

BUT WHEN YOU TOUCH ME LIKE THIS
AND YOU HOLD ME LIKE THAT
    I JUST HAVE TO ADMIT
THAT IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME
WHEN I TOUCH YOU LIKE THIS
AND I HOLD YOU LIKE THAT
IT'S SO HARD TO BELIEVE BUT
IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME
    IT'S ALL COMING BACK
IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW
    THERE WERE MOMENTS OF GOLD
AND THERE WERE FLASHES OF LIGHT
THERE WERE THINGS I'D NEVER DO AGAIN
BUT THEN THEY'D ALWAYS SEEMED RIGHT
THERE WERE NIGHTS OF ENDLESS PLEASURE
IT WAS MORE THAN ANY LAWS ALLOW

    BABY, BABY
IF I KISS YOU LIKE THIS
AND IF YOU WHISPER LIKE THAT
    IT WAS LOST LONG AGO
BUT IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME
IF YOU WANT ME LIKE THIS
AND IF YOU NEED ME LIKE THAT
    IT WAS DEAD LONG AGO
BUT IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME
    IT'S SO HARD TO RESIST
AND IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME
    I CAN BARELY RECALL
BUT IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW
