all comedians standup is fricking awful.
I've laughed at an actual standup special maybe four times in my entire life.
Comedians really shine when they can be themselves which only happens on their podcast.
Mark Normands comedy is terrible, he is hilarious on podcasts because hes a genuinely funny person.
This goes for most male comics.
There has never been a funny female comic.

      >he is hilarious on podcasts because hes a genuinely funny person.
He is one of the fakest people on the planet and nobody really knows how he is in real life according to his comedian friends. Also extremely greedy and does all of this only because of the money.
Amy Schumer infused him with nepotism super powers, so none of this matters.

Listen to him on Tuesdays where he said that he meticulously prepared his stories for his first Joe Rogan podcast. He's autistic about his preparation for podcasts that he cares about. He then repeats those stories endlessly on every other podcast. His old prostitute was just an old lady and old guy at first, she morphed into a hooker and a pimp later for some reason. She also got older after as well. His dad and mom were never physical at first, now one or both beat him up. At some point it's not clear if any of his childhood stories are true.

nah I just don't find massively rehearsed speeches funny.
rarely is any comedy special funny enough to make me laugh because almost every comedy special has to be tame and have mas appeal.
I don't find normie shit funny. Dry humor is what gets me going and that is very very rarely ever actually dark in a standup special because its hosted by a network that needs ratings and in the past there have been threats of FCC intervention.
If you like normie basic humor than that's fine, just not for me.
I like podcasts where people can say pretty much whatever the frick they want.

Same for you moron. You don't determine what's funny and yet you talk about it like only you're right. This is why we can't have nice things. Trannies like you always have to act smug about shit. inb4 troon rage

However you DID say that, you fricking moron.
I voiced nothing but subjective opinions based on my own personal beliefs and you told me I was wrong lol.
                how are you this moronic?

I haven't watched a stand up on a network in my life. Before streaming, I used to watch them on YouTube or Pandora or just pirate them. You can't seriously say that even Netflix censors stand up, unless the comedian gets cancelled like Louis.

            Anonymous

Netflix is very choosy about who does their specials. New comics look at it as a chance to get a bigger audience and they RARELY make it too risqué for fear of alienation. Almost every single comedian that's gotten a netflix special that wasnt already a massively established comedian has talked about this.
Not that they censored their own material heavily but if you know the comedian before their netflix special, the netflix special is usually much different than their original content.
If you are an established comedian netflix doesn't really care what you say because you're going to bring in lots of viewers. The most "controversial" on their platform was Chappelle and probably D'elia after his scandal. There aren't many other controversial comedians on there besides maybe Rogan.

HBO didn't really give a frick for the same reason Netflix kind of doesn't. Revenue, subscriptions, etc.

Comedy Central absolutely there was off topic content as well as YouTube.

Anyways, my point im trying to make is very rarely are the people on stage in specials genuine. Someone sat down for months writing out content, spending a year honing it. It's just a speech. Watching a podcast is generally really who that person is and is usually much funnier off the cuff, which is what I find funny.
I don't find years of rehearsal saying the same shit over and over to thousands of crowds genuine. When a comedian laughs on stage while explaining their humorous story, its literally part of the act. That joke isn't funny to them after the 9,000th time they've told it.
It just feels fake to me.

Went to see Ricky Gervais new show live a few months back that is going to become a netflix special. A couple of times before he went into some really edgy jokes he said something along the lines of "eh frick it, netflix is going to cut it anyways so I might as well". I imagine the same goes for most other comedians, which is why I prefer to see them live instead of waiting for the censored netflix version

How many comedians are actually from money but create a fake persona and background because of much everyone loves the old "starving road hack with nothing" lame to fame chestnut? I'm betting there's guys out there that have gone as far as legally changing their name.

I doubt many come from money. I'd bet some were middle class but I highly doubt successful comedians came from money.
The best comedians come from having an absolutely fricked up adolescence. Not that you can't have problems if you're wealthy, but none the majority of those problems rarely make you a sturdier, tough person.

Literally every comedian today came from money, dipshit. You can't afford to perform stand-up at dive bars in California making $200 a weekend without your wealthy israeli director uncle lending a hand (or a mouth)

Most of the JRE crew are from money or have special connections that they never mentioned.

Like Tom Segura has a cousin who is a successful documentary guy who has won Emmys.

Christina P grew up as like best friends with Roseanne's daughter.

You often find out they were pretty wealthy growing up, and their lowest point is earning more than 90 percent of Americans still.

He's actually not very good. I swear he was better. His boy Sam Morril is much more polished. On their podcast when they need help with bits Mark gives shit to no advice while Sam comes up with good ideas on the spot. I don't watch their podcast anymore because there's always a guest. Show is better when it's just them two. Quitting drinking a few months ago probably gave me some clarity.

You gays will argue about anything. I think stand up can be a great, hilarious artform or really cringey. Mark seems kind of stiff on stage and robotic abit, which he admits, but he tells so many jokes in one set its impressive. His 2 pods are my favorite, especially Tuesdays. Sometimes we might be drunk can suck abit if there's a guest and they don't know them so they just kind of kiss their ass and only talk shop about stand-up the whole time, but usually its really entertaining. Its getting borderline weird how much I like Mark though although like anybody they can only have so much to say it gets repetitive.
