I think it was on purpose, the idea is to show how, in such a world of submission, any man who dares go against the system is somehow more attractive than others.
im pretty sure she straight up says she likes him because he's old and kind of ugly, with bad teeth. fricking him in itself is an act of rebellion out of the sheer fact she's out of his league
no, winston was moronic and got too comfortable thinking he was getting away with being a thought criminal, the antique shop with the old man was a sting from the start to make him get complacent
>hear that 1984 is meant to be a horror masterpiece warning of a dystopian future >finally read it >it's just the author writing self-insert smut where he talks about wanting to have sex with and murder women
My favourite part of 1984 is Orwell seething that the proles could just overthrow the entire totalitarian state if they wanted to but choose to just watch footie and hate Goldberg instead >nooo why doesn't the working class share my political beliefs, we'll end up with le hecking police staterino nooo
theres a part in the book where winston hears some proles screaming and thinks its might be the start of an uprising or something only to find out its literally some housewives fighting over pans. the point isnt that they dont share the same belief as winston or orwell specifically but that they're placated to the point of not wanting to break the status quo, because in spite of it being all they know it also isnt the worst thing in the world. why rise up for something better when the life you already live is just fine the way it is?
It's weird how Orwell literally was a rat and a cop doing undercover surveillance of dissidents.
You tell that woke liberal, Anon. It is a strange fact, but it is unquestionably true, that almost any English intellectual would feel more ashamed of standing to attention during "God Save the King" than stealing from a poor box.
orwell had no love of soviet communism though, why wouldn't he snitch on guys that would no doubt snitch on him if the hammer and sickle flew over london?
I haven't read either. I did see the '1984' movie with William Hurt. I think, in a nutshell, '1984' is about witholding information and there is a scarcity of information. Alduous Huxley's 'Brave New World' is about being so flooded with information you can't discern truth from illusion anymore. So 'Brave New World' was more right, when it comes to the world we're living in. I think that's the gist of it.
theres nothing implying they cant both be happening at the same time. 'unpersoning' is straight up a thing, so is covering up or completely supressing news stories.
My friend is a jorno. I've known him since we were kids. I'm a very patient man. I don't go into hysterics, but when I offer him a different POV, and he can question it and wreck my ass with facts. He turns aggresive and tells me I don't know shit. I'm not provocative. I'm not looking to get a rise out of him. I can calm him down, eventually, I tell him: "We've know each other since we were kids, we are out, having a beer and enjoying ourselves." "Don't get so wound up." Sometimes he does manage to get under my skin and I tell him I use his paper to wipe my ass with and he doesn't know shit. He's got two daughters, so it would be wise for him to look at what is happening around him. I have no dog in this fights. His daughters are going to school, so sooner or later it will hit him.
Unironically in each other's league.
Certainly.
Just not anywhere close to each other's generation.
>Great, I gave my daughter an old man fetish
I think the implication is that she might be a bawd spy - that's how he was caught.
The guy they rented the room from ratted them out.
Yup but without needing to frick her, he wouldn't have rented out the room
I don't get it. So what?
No, there was a monitor in their sex room the whole time.
Orwell is such a fricking hack
Wonderful. Did you talk to him about Alduous yet?

lmao based, I fell asleep watching that shit so I don't remember
He ratted himself out
It's written like that in the book
She ratted him out, didn't she?

If you even read the history of the Soviet Union for 5 seconds you would understand, moron

Well, since you'll never be one, I guess you're safe, "ma'am".
meds. now.

>My friend is a jorno.
Condolences.
People like that are often incapable of learning, even when their offspring suffers directly.
>My friend is a jorno
You will have the honour of skinning him alive.
I can't remember as it has been ages since I read it but how does Julia guess he's a secret dissident?
>Girl conditioned from birth to create babies
>Winston is a festering boil on society
John Hurt had a nice voice, I can see it.
I assumed those were both men from your picture.
