it stands to reason that most people pursue relationships because it gives them good feelings.
perhaps some of us failed more often than not, and found that we could get those feelings elsewhere. sure you might get unreasonably horny once or twice a year, but aside from that it's not such a problem to find happy times with alternative activities. like drugs and escapism.
maybe if we allowed ourself to continue failing socially we might have eventually fit in somewhere, but instead we gave up and accepted our failure.
